What home improvement work did you do today?

Have any of you made a concrete slab look like wood?

 

Finished remodeling one of our bathrooms. Major props to my wife for removing all the wallpaper, that was a huge pain (previous owner had wallpapered the ceiling...who the F does that?!).

And as simple as it seems, I can’t figure the shit out and I fuck it up almost every time. Over the last 20 years of caulking shit, I just need to man-up, and realize paying someone $50-$100hr to make sure all the visible caulk-lines I’m going to look at for the next 20-50 years of my life, is worth the money paying to make sure it’s done professionally. I “DIY” almost everything, and some things, I just need to farm out. Caulking, is one of them.

Eta - I’ve bought all the stupid tools too. Little rubber triangle things, special detail tools - they don’t hold a candle to a guy that makes $30hr doing it daily. I’d happily just pay a guy that gets it done right.

Wow, this was taken at 11:30am Tuesday morning. When I left for work to pay for it at 7am it was a slab with nobody there and no supplies on site. Wife just emailed me the pic and said surprise!

 

They make it look simple.

 

The framers work looks good! I like that they are using LVLs for the garage door headers and using triple jack or shoulder studs for support. Looks good! Did they put a foam sill plate under the pressure treated bottom plate?

 

Will check when I get home tonight, is it as simple as looking for foam?

It’s services as a barrier between the wood and concrete. Saves energy, eliminates drafts, and reduces heat or cooling loss. Helps keep out insects and other bugs.

 

My framers have all the interior and exterior framing done for my barn. The standing seam roof is being installed, got my garage slab ready for the steel and waiting on my timber frame trusses and post to arrive next week.

 

No not that I can see, but I notice the bottom 2x4 is treated. will double check in the day light.

Congrats!!!!! After my slab was poured it only took a few weeks for me to get that far.

 

More progress on new Tundra house

 

Got my high speed internet installed today.

Our town is building out it's own fiber optic network and they brought the cable up our road just after we moved into the house over the summer. Now they are doing the hookups to the houses. Gigabit speed internet for $69/month.

 

Can’t wait until the fiber is finished in my neighborhood, sad part is I work for the company, we had to stop work in my area to catch the rest of the surrounding areas up.

What! Of course I did. I am blue collar, I drive a service van a fix things but working with wood might as well be brain surgery. I look at it this way, this new garage is less than a new Tundra. (A little bit less)
