Maybe have him quote out a entire condenser; usually come precharged and probably a few hours less labor to install, and it might come with a better warranty vs just the compressor(it’s been a minute since I’ve done a change out)

I think the average compressor is $600-1200 or so...usually cheaper than a brand new unit.

Out of a few places- the compressor is $3500+. New unit is $4500. My buddy came through and is passing on his cost to me at $936, + $600 in labor / misc supplies including refrigerant. Sold

The floor guys showed up and got straight to work this morning. There is lots of prep that has to be done because of all the old carpet glue on the floor. Can't wait to have this all done and start setting up my garage/shop.

It’s French drain on the L . And like a few runners. I might just do it- I mean they’re all just tying into the existing 12 inch pipe that runs across the yard

Home Depot unfortunately. I really wanted to go with a more custom provider, but the budget only allows for so much. The bulk of the remodel is the framing and MEP, so If we wanted to replace cabinets down the road when funds allow it's feasible. To be fair the quality of the HD products seems pretty dang good for the price. I'll update once everything is installed to see for sure.

Having a friend in the business is always a good thing. When mine went out last year a new heat pump was looking at at least $16k. My buddy has phased out HVAC work from his business, but still did a little. He charged me his cost for the heat pump/air handler, supplies and a couple hundred to pay his employee/helper for the day. Cost me $6k.

My island is from HD. Believe it’s a 60” sink base cabinet. Just had to skin the three sides in Luan, base trim and add the counter top. Voila. Incredibly decent quality.

That is exactly what we have planned. What did you use to coat/seal your butcher block countertops and how is it holding up?

We renovated our kitchen about 10 years ago and used HD cabinets due to budget. They are still in great shape both structurally and in appearance. The countertops you choose can help dress up the space. We went with granite (not from HD) and it helps to make things nice.

True, but the whole system is new now and hopefully will last for years. Plus it looks cool, kinda like a big ass mini-split.

It’s Tung oil. We did a nice job and covered the countertops with cardboard while we sprayed some texture in the kitchen. The cardboard apparently drew some of the oil back out of the wood and there’s some shiny spots because of it. They recommend revolting every 6-12 months or so. It’s been more like 18 months and the oil has held up great. It hardens clear and has been very waterproof since. We are going to sand them down and recoat soon. (Yeah right)

While we saved up for the granite we had what I called 'custom wood countertops' for a couple years... otherwise known as plywood!

Love it. I know myself too well to think that I'll actually keep up with maintenance, so I'm glad to hear you've had good luck with flexible intervals lol. Especially once I have free cash and time to divert to the Tundy

A little mid day progress update on the garage floor. Grinding is done and they are starting to apply the base coat.
