Thanks but I never left. Just post here and there. I’ve been very busy with work and new projects.

That's why you are 1UPPER. If you weren't busy with work and new projects you'd have to change your screen name to mine. :D

Regardless, haven't seen you on here in a while and I missed seeing some of those amazing projects you'd been working on.

Ha! In my old house I did just that - went from an AiMesh setup with two Asus RT-AC68U’s to a USG, 8-port switch, and a Nano AP.

Planning on finishing our basement soon and will likely run wiring to each room before finishing the ceiling.

I had planed (and almost ordered) to get one of those wall mount ones like what you pictured for some added coverage. They are easily concealable so you dont have a ufo with a blue light (you can turn it off but i like it) mounted to your ceiling. I ended up not needing one.

100% run at least 1 drop per room, wherever you think there's a chance you'll put a tv, and at least 1 drop outside (backyard) under the eves with about 30' of extra cable spooled up in the attic. Thats what i had my parents do when they did work on the house, and ended up with about 14 drops.

The Dream Wall is a little bit pricey, but when you compare it to the buildout for the same thing (UDMpro, a 16+ POE switch with around 500w of poe powah, a U6 Pro AP, and a cloud key) it starts looking more appealing.

    Hmm
I’m gonna have to look into this.
Currently have three eero Pros (gen 2 before Amazon) and one pro 6+ but I both love and hate how little customization there is. Everything is wired backhaul, the 6 is my gateway to a StarLink (best option I have where I’m at), and coverage is pretty good but I’d really like to start separating IOT devices from my main and guest networks. Would also like something that doesn’t look like ass or have ugly lights and shit - or momma bear will pitch a fit.

Going to correct myself here. My brain was only half on earlier. 1/2” dia would be very excessive for this. I would actually use a 5/16” dia bolt which typically have a 1/2” hex drive on them. :smack: Gotta turn my brain on more often.

Nice call. The longest Home Depot had were 4" but it was enough to pull the board back against the wall. It's still slightly bowed and it split the 2x4 more but I don't think it will be a problem. I'll continue to keep an eye on it.

    I appreciate the tips.

Dad called and told me they had a problem with the floor in one of the extra bedrooms.

Problem may have been an understatement. Carpenter ants destroyed about 6-8 feet of the joists. Plan is to throw a beam in the crawl space and sister some new joists in. Didn't help these were 2x8s and 16ft long with no support other than the hangers at each side.

You can easily put iot devices on their own vlan on the Ubiquiti software. The sky is the limit with the customization on this stuff.....including turning on/off led lights on the AP's.
Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to see.

    Yes
    This is the truth

though I did upgrade my entire system to Eero Pro 6+ or whatever they were called earlier this year and the system was garbage (unstable, poor connectivity, lost connections constantly) compared to my current older setup of Eero Pro’s so I returned them.

I’m lucky to see 150/7 Mbps on Starlink so it’s not like my WiFi is the bottleneck anyway.

It's ironic to me as I have Ubiquiti stuff in the cart currently. It's what we use at work and I'm upset with my current system's coverage ESPECIALLY since they don't sell the extenders anymore(Orbi pro mesh). Currently in the buy once, cry every few years stage. We will see if I pull the trigger. Hopefully, some work discounts will offset some of the pain.

I've been dreading this but finally decided to start today. Our house has an old part and a new part and the old parts basement needs some help. They used real stone in the old part and it's been parged over and is coming off now in big chunks. So today, I started to remove all the loose stuff, and there's plenty of it. The plan is to vacuum/wire brush/ and treat it with bonding agent and re-parge. What a total PITA. All the old stuff has to go outside, by hand in 5 gallon buckets, so up and down the bilko stairs way too many times, dust up the wazoo, and then we have to leave the furnace off so all the dust doesn't get sucked down the cold air returns and then get blown all over the house. Man this is way more than I bargained for and I haven't even put water to mortar yet.

I’ve never had a garage before. My house has a 1976 solid wood garage door. Here lately she’s seemed to be struggling to open. She’s been noisy since we moved in in May. Today I replaced the rollers with nylon ones and lubricated the chain. Much better.

I removed the roller hinges and replaced the rollers that way. Also insured that all of the hinge nuts were tight. I’m not sure if this is a @shifty` approved method, but it’s the one that made the most sense to me.

EDIT: although, I am not opposed to anyone starting a GoFundMe to pay off my Snap-On tab. I’m sure I could get a commercial spot with Sarah McLachlan telling you how you can help me for just $19 a month. In fact, I might even send you a picture of me at work with my tools

I don’t know that these garage door glass panes have ever been cleaned. Took four rags, a fuck ton of glass cleaner and still had to get a razor scraper out

Honestly, I've got a spring on mine that needs replacing, and that's a precarious task as we all know. Akin to using a budget spring compressor on struts dangerous. I also need to replace one of the 4 panels on mine because someone backed into it one day in a pre-coffee haze while rushing the kid to school.

    :lalala::notsure:

But hey, since this thread exists (I never check anything other than the 1st Gen forums), I guess I'll drop what I'm working on.

I've been slowly trying to organize after a forced-downsize. Talked about this maybe a year or two ago in the 1GT Lunch Table thread, I had to split my former shop space down into a combo of large closet/storage, family gym space, full bath, and 2% of the former space for my "shop". So I'm trying to create storage and organize. Latest iteration, I picked up these drawers to install in the old workbench I built 20ish years ago when I bought the house.

    upload_2023-12-30_16-44-5.png
The intent is to remove the oils/polishes/lubes/sealants caddy on my bench and flush-mount them inside the bench, right where this red box is. Gotta flush out one side with a 2x6 when it gets here, and probably shim over/under the cabinet with 1.25" fingerjoint or 1x/2x or something. The intent is to finally finish cleaning up what's on top with 3 drawers that end ~1" shy of the bench depth (24") if their measures are correct, assuming the drawers actually go full-depth, I guess we'll see. $156 is twice what I'd pay for 4-5 pairs of quality slides alone, and I'm sure this "VEVOR" cabinetry is cheap mainland China crap, but the video reviews on scAmazon were believable, so I'm running with it. I must've spent 3-4 hours today trying to find anything that would fit the vertical opening @24½", and fills most the 24" depth, and having at least 15"-16" wide, total freaking bear. Retrofitting stuff like this sucks, and I refuse to pay top $$$ to have these fancy-schmancy setups I see a lot of folks with when I can reuse what I already built, and customize it to my needs without blowing the bank.

(EDIT: Note to say, I'm not normally this messy, but I had to shove an assload of stuff into this little 7'x7' space, my shop was like 11'x23' or something previously. It's driving me f'n nuts not having at least 1/3 of my bench clear for working on stuff.)
