What home improvement work did you do today?

Yes, the inverter is grounded via the buss and all three solar panels have a dedicated in the ground 8'copper pole.

Someone talk to me about top coating stained wood. I have sanded down and stained our new ceiling fan blades, now I need to clear them.
I stained the ebony and the went over them with red mahogany to achieve the proper color.

The one on the left is the final color. I used Minwax stain if it matters.

 

I would shoot it with satin lacquer in a aerosol can.

 

I’m no pro. I’m [at best] DIYer grade. I’m sure someone here has a more informed (or louder) opinion than mine. But...

I’m a fan of Minwax Polycrylic. Goes on easily and dries quickly. In a dry climate on a nice day, 5+ coats is easy to do if you’re into that kind of thing. I’ve had success with it bringing out great color in barnwood & it’s worked well on the few stained things I’ve done. It’s clear/no tint, so stain isn’t affected at all.

Most things I work on are rough-hewn, so I can’t speak to how it affects grain or texture on smooth surfaces, if at all.

That looks great, side note does it add any exterior protection or is just for inside. I’m making an insert for my mailbox out of cedar, and I want to stain it and give it some protection.

It’s not installed yet just sitting there.

 

Minwax makes the lacquer if you so desire. We spray all our wood work and six panel doors with lacquer.

 

I can spray it, I have a full cross draft paint booth.

I’d try an oil-based polyurethane for anything that will get wet. Completely different properties than polycrylic, so I’m not much help aside from the lead.

 

For exterior you're going to want to use something other than a polyurethane.

 

I have my mailbox inserts and all the post on the house to do.

 

If you like it,use it. No rocket doctoring deg required. Just pick the finish you want gloss, semi gloss. If you use water base, sand according to the directions. If you use oil based, it has longer drying time. Then use steel wool to sand.

 

When they paving your road?

 

Turned off the pilot light on the furnace, changed the duct blocks, and turned on the swamp cooler (serviced it in the fall when I turned it down)

 

It’s already paved, but the word is it’s going happen again in the next year. It’s just really dirty.

 

I would recommend a oil based polyurethane for anything interior, I use a matte finish.
For exterior, varnish may be your best bet.
Neither is water based, so wear your PSG when applying. I did all of my garage work benches in Oil Poly, and they’ve held up perfectly. Outdoors, I’d find something (varnish) a little more bulletproof.

 

Welp, first time really mowing this year (yesterday). Put 4 hrs into the “nice” yard around the house on the rider, and 3 hours for the first time ever on the field behind the Kubota and a 6ft wide brush hog.
Super happy the field turned out as nice as it did - since planted in September.



Last year prior to shop
