Yep my worry is loosing too much mirror if I go round. It’s a basement guest bath but will be used by our girls in the coming years when they move downstairs so I think rectangular will suit us best

Solar installed, Tesla power pack installed, and the shed is now wired for electricity. Now we wait for the inspector so I can flip the switch.

Check the build link in my signature.
I've got a mix. We buy what we find to be most functional for the specific purpose. We used to be all white, but with the recent remodel we went with grey cabinets and did stainless appliances.
    • LG refrigerator (biggest French Door one available, with the double-open left door, but not the TV screen or clear door).
    • Bosch dishwasher
    • GE Cafe french-door wall oven (this thing has been awesome)
    • Wolf 36" 5-burner gas cooktop (mounted in a custom deep peninsula cabinet)
    • Catura BEST 36" downdraft hood (mounted with a down discharge and a remote blower below the floor)
We've actually had the gas cooktop for about 12 years - we re-used it in the remodel because it was still working perfectly. But we did the new downdraft because it was way better than the older GE one we had.

We still don't own a microwave...and don't plan on it.

Forward looking camera, Stub Antenna, 3M clearshield. A few other non lifted items.
We had an inspector do a critique of the house a month ago, as our one year warranty is expiring and we needed everything documented. On thing I did not expect was black mold in a section of the attic above the 2 car section of the garage. They say it was wet when it was built and the insulation installed before it was dry. Solution: vacuum all the insulation that is bad out and the some more, dry and treat the area. Put new insulation back in. Today was removal of the bad stuff. A giant vacuum to suck the stuff out. It took them about 4 hours. Tomorrow the guys with the heated blowers arrive. Fun fun.

Bathroom renovation ... starting with corrections of wrong by previous owner's so called handyman. Relocating sink, then moving toilet from too close beside shower, replacing with corner crapper to make better use of long skinny room.

Installed the new dishwasher last night only to have water coming from the air gap. All I gotta say is I hope no one here has to clean the line from the air gap to the garbage disposal like I had to. Shit was nasty! New dishwasher working well now!

Busting concrete slab to move toilet 2 feet south. Used my hammer drill to make starting hole then working along with chisel point and sledge. Should rent bigger/better/easier/faster but trying to keep dust at minimum (and my cheapness exceeds my desire to give up).

not a low dust option, but an old or cheaply purchased skillsaw with a masonry blade cuts concrete. I used my 20 year old one that needed to be replaced and cut a 2.5 x 4 foot hole in my slab

edit: this will likely ruin the skill saw from fine dust ingestion. Wear a mask.

my fed up factor exceeded my cheapness ... back to home depot, rented a Makita 20 lb demolition hammer. Much better, worth the 50 bucks (nice deal I didnt know - if pickup after 5pm, 4 hours goes to 9 next morning). Ran shop vac beside bit, helped a lot. Tomorrow will cut the old cast, join pvc with Fernco, set flange, backfill sand, concrete.

Yippee - I've been stalling on this job, fear of unknown below 44 year old slab.

Truly not sure. They review well and last. My minimal advice would be to find a dishwasher with a stainless steel interior. If it’s plastic lined walls it’s a cheap model and not worth the savings.

Gutted the upstairs spare bathroom. Nothing wrong with it, but not up to “modern day blah blah”

it was a spare bathroom, so it was completely functional and livable. But my wife thought I’d like to spend a vacation doing this. (Done in Nov 2022)

Nice work. Perhaps you could visit me ... I'm good at rough work like framing and electrical, decent at plumbing. But not so good at fine finishing, drywall mudding, etc.

Seven days start to finish and done alone. I also would stop work once the kids got home from school which slowed me down. If I were left alone in the house I probably could have shave a day or two off of that.

Have a look at these brands as well. Miele, Thermador, GE Profile. Depending on your area, I usually goto the appliance store that caters to builders. They are constantly updating appliances and you can get a great deal off a showroom item that is being pulled out. As well, asking if they have anything in their warehouse inventory that is discounted. Through the years I managed to pick up a really really nice applainces at super discounted pricing. This past fall, I picked up a Bosch built-in fridge column and freezer column. Electrolux large capacity steam washer and dryer-2 sets. Wolfe 48" range. All for a hefty 60% discount. The thing that most people don't realize is, showroom pieces aren't used, unless they were used in a cooking class. Warranties commence for them as soon as they're sold to you.

I agree with new supply lines with new appliances however the hot water supply line for the dishwasher is already braided steel and was installed new when we repiped our house back in feb of this year. The discharge lines are all new that come with the dishwasher except for the rubber piece connecting the air gap at my sink to the garbage disposal. Its a firm black rubber hose similar to a radiator hose, I dont think that needs to be replaced, but it did need to be cleaned thoroughly.
