Yes, planning to pop off the tile and replace the drywall with backer board. Just not sure if I can then just use thin-set or if I need to use metal lathe. Going to the stone supply store next week to review in detail.

Only need backer board, backer board screws and thin set, unless you have high ceiling and you want to stone it all the way up…then you have to check code, it may need anchors for the structure and stone at a certain height for earth quake prevention. It’s a easy on big surface, just time consuming around the corners, depends on the looks you want, they have corner piece to make it look stack or you could cut miters with 1 piece and make a smooth transition around the corners.

I finished stripping the bark off of the biggest cedar log yesterday - did it all with a putty knife and it was very cathartic. I'm going to try to get away with two poles for lights and use the heaviest one as a parking stop for whenever we park in the backyard.

I lightly sanded one tonight and like the way it looks. Plan is to sand the other two, water seal them, and get them into the ground this weekend. By the way, I'm using a Dewalt Cordless sander and that thing is amazing.

Interesting. I never thought of putting metal joists down as the bottom layer.

Apparently that is where the strength of this shed comes from, It keeps the floor from sagging over time! Unfortunately I have dealt with Galvenized steel before, and thankfully the rain factor here in SoCal is minimal, but lightly Galvanized steel will rust over time in a wet environment.. That is why I had the shed placed on composite decking boards, they have a slight curvature to them and the steel sitting on top of that curve aids in shedding water. The result is longer life, and me being happy!!

No plans. I am roughly following a design by a guy on YouTube. See link here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPoosHiILSo. I looked at availability of the door and windows at the local big box stores and made my plans according to what was available there.

If you have anymore questions please don't hesitate to ask.

    Beautiful day here!
Got doors wide open "airing out" the house.
But planted 6 willow oaks. They stand about 7' tall. Planted 4 in back yard and 2 in front yard. Got them staked down and watered. Will do a small mulch bed in a bit on each.

Had a nice day here too. Got a pile of old branches and trees burned along with a couple more trees I needed to clean up - was about 12’ DIA and 10’ tall when I started.
The ring is a piece of 66” DIA pipe.

    Flux capacitor!
The weather outside was perfect for yard work. I installed a 300 watt low voltage transformer and led low voltage landscape lighting. Im very happy with the results!

We definitely don't get much days like this in Texas... I got up at a decent time, finished prepping the posts, set them in concrete, stained and sealed them, and hung the lights. Somehow there was just enough to wrap around the gazebo, so that was a win.

Started raising up the sunk down living room floor today and painted the back of the house yesterday as I got tired of waiting on the stucco guy.

We try to let them do as much as possible with our house. We built it from ground up and moved in 10 days after oldest was born. Love making memories with them all.

Only 1 problem, he didn’t stagger the backer board, and I hope his subfloor playwood is laying the opposite way and stagger with glue and screw.

With all those screws I really do not think you are going to have a problem! Love the tile you picked, looks like it's laying down nicely!!
Good luck with the rest of your build, looking forward to your future posts!

I recently put up some cafe style lights around the deck. We still need to run wire to hang them correctly but they are working nicely! I also painted the shutters and front door. Both were burgundy for the last 10 years. We hope the tan shutters catch the color in the brick work and the dark blue door is a nice offset. The white storm door is new also. It is an Andersen Series 3000, super easy install for a nice door if anyone is in the market I recommend checking it out. Earlier in the year i removed three boxwood bushes from each side of the front door, six total. That really opened up the front of the house.
I am dreading the deck staining but that may have to be next.

I like it all. But I'll be honest, not sure I'm a fan of the tan shutters on this house. I like everything else you did though! Take it as constructive criticism or me being a d!ck. Just my opinion. But since I'm married, it doesn't mean as much

No offense taken. Almost every house in my neighborhood has black or brown shutters so we decided to go way off the beaten path. Its a big change and and not the norm for an a traditional brick home but it works for us. The first color we picked came out almost yellow once on the shutters. I'm sure the neighbors were really hating it for a couple days while I went and had the paint darkened to be more tan. I live in the same world you do, had the wife not been OK with this tan color I would still be on the ladder re-painting.

I perfectly understand the mentality of wanting something different than what everyone else has! It could be just that it's different and that's why it threw me off. Def better than the yellow though! haha

Took advantage of the nice weather the last two days and worked a little more on the back and side yard. Yesterday, we painted our porch swing and a big old church pew we had. I also moved the big pole and laid it on some bricks to use as a car stop. I'm kinda thinking I should just sell it.

Today, I rattle canned and hung some art thingy on the fence for Mrs. Bandito, cleaned up where I place the cedar light poles, and I made a water diverter thing out of old gutter where water was overflowing from the roof and going under the house. Now I get to tackle the decks.IMG_0443.jpgIMG_0444.jpgIMG_0445.jpgIMG_0446.jpgIMG_0449.jpgIMG_0452.jpgIMG_0454.jpg

Need some advice. I want to add wood to my metal fence in the back. You can see that the view pretty much sucks and I would like some more privacy. It would need to be light weight (the center is rigged to open up) and I would like to do something like this with different sized boards:

I'm thinking I could use fence pickets and just cut them to different sizes or whatever. Not sure how to connect them to the metal fence without adding a shit-ton of weight. Also, I want to do it cheaply. Any suggestions? Picture of the fence I want to cover is below.

Route a channel into 2x4s to make a 'cap' to bolt onto the top and bottom rails then screw the pickets to those. Up to 6 ft you could probably get away with just adding a 2x2 near the top to keep them in line.
