Has a little bit of a fire station look. i like it!

I heard that these kind of garage/car museums have some crazy hvac systems that make them basically dust free.

My finishers are working on the ride on power trowel machines. I wish I could put a video on here of these guys doing their work. They are very smooth operators and they make the finish concrete look like glass. 9FACD794-AA04-480B-BAFE-BB12811C2752.jpg

Wow, that garage is nuts. All I did today was hold the measuring tape while my contractor measured for new bulkhead stairs. It doesn't pay to do things like that myself when the choice is between getting paid or not.

I'd like to get someone's take on how best to handle a situation.
Here's the story: I get a quote from an electrician for having some wiring and sonos speaker mounts installed. I show him the wiring and mounts that I had and asked him to make sure they work and he's comfortable installing them. He says no problem.
These are what I ordered: https://www.midlite.com/Products/Pr...for-Sonos-Play:-1-White-25-Non-terminated-WIP

3 weeks later, after scheduling, he comes back to do the job. I do a quick review with him of what we're doing and where everything is going and then I give him the wiring and mounts. He gets to work and after about an hour I look in and he has installed outlets in the wall where the speakers should go. We try and trouble-shoot on how to correct it. He said he would fill the holes and patch them. One location has a beam around it making little space for mounting the speaker. The second can easily be moved, but he wants to keep it in the same stud column and mount it just below to help hide the patch. Then he starts on the third mount and cuts too high for the speaker to fit.

Below are pictures of how he left the job. He said he would come finish the patching when his schedule allowed in a couple weeks. I can't (or don't want to) have my walls like this for weeks. I'm trying to be fair, and not blackball they guy or the company. What are my options here for payment and getting this fixed? And, another factor is that we are supposed to have this company install heat tape in the next month; which I'm second-guessing now.

    Here is the damage

So we had a bad wind storm Wednesday this week and my front tree is one of the nicest in town.

I called my father-in-law who has cut trees since 1982. (He didn’t answer) While after the storm you could hear chainsaws all over the neighborhood. I kept studying the tree and thought I think we can save it?!? He finally called me that night and was like “Oh crap that sucks”

Today he stopped over and said “son we’re gonna fix this sucker”

So here’s the progress so far:

Tomorrow I have 5/8 threaded rod so drill 2 holes on each side of the crack and pull it together. So Woody (FIL ) said as long as the bark is moving sap it’s gonna live. Once we get up we are going to pin it and put up a steel cable. My neighbors just shake their head because I would consider this my 3rd wild project. My one neighbor said “man this is right up your ally” It was funny my wife said to her dad “so Dad how many of these have you done?” Woody “NONE! This is kinda crazy!” LOL

As you can see we did get it off the ground.still have a long ways to go but a little here and a little there and it will move.

This is just one limb you're trying to save?
I'd hire an arborist to take a look and trim the tree to help prevent this type of, and future damage. That limb won't live.

You'd be surprised trees and woody shrubs can be pretty resilient. I'm about 4/5 on getting branches to live just propping them up and wrapping in electrical tape. No where near this scale though

Yes it was just one huge limb, if lost that limb I would have to do some serious blending.

Those threaded rods are 24” 5/8”

Again my father in law has been cutting trees (climbing/no bucket truck) full time since 1982(sun up till sun down). (Sorry not paying an arborist when he’s free) Tree trimmers in town ask HIM how to do big jobs so honestly I’m in good hands. I’ve worked with tree multiple “tree trimmers” and scratch my head after watching him a few times here and there.

Anyways here’s how it ended up, now that it’s cabled.

Tomorrow fill the gap with spray foam, tar it, and cut off the excess bolts.

Will this work? Dunno 100% but I’m (we) gave this tree the best shot possible.

Could the gap be closed more or does the gap give the limb the best chance to survive?

Come along was maxed out, I jacked as far as my 14’ 4x4 would go, my threaded rod I couldn’t turn it any more. Literally I was going an inch here jacking there a turn here back and for for about 5 hrs.

so here was the key to all of this the Bark was good and the sap will flow.

as woody said “son were good, time to cable it, trees are tough”

Our kitchen remodel is just about done. We had a company paint our 30 year old boxes but they replaced the drawers and doors. Today another company is installing new quarts countertops. After this, we just have to pick a backsplash. We'll do appliances later. I know some hate white cabinets but it's timeless and made the most sense when repainting existing cabinets.

Here are some before shots with the hideous old tops.

I've seen this sort of stuff done before. Aren't you down in the lowcountry SC? Several live oaks with steel rods either supporting or mending low hanging branches.

We put new carpet into our house today. The old carpet was a beautiful peachy brown where the new carpet has a more neutral tone to it. A worthwhile investment for sure.

Continuation from 7306. It’s been a month since my last post and I was debating whether to post as progress is slow. Garage doors are put on, the plumbing rough in work is done, the HVAC is completed. The propane tank arrived and set on mounts and hooked up to the house. The gas rough in is done. The was a delay of two weeks for the electrical start. But they finally did start. Attached a a few photos. We went next door, at our neighbor and checked their progress also, and I got a photo out one of their windows of our house and lot. My house is on the lower elevation of the culdesac. I hope that works out ok, the drive way is supposed to have a slope away from the house and to the side. My lot is actually the most flat of the 4 at the end of the culdesac, which I’m happy. More trees will be removed before we move in, and more alders will be gone after we move in. My neighbor on one side will be doing alder tree removal also, to get more view of the mountains.
