Took a lightning strike last night. Took out the blower fan on the AC. I did power reset and teh fan came back on. Called the man to check it anyway, all good and he cleaned the coils for good measure. While he was wroking he stepped in a hole in our brick sidewalk next to the house.

    Water main busted..

cut out the offending copper and ran flex pipe in the house.

turned the water back on there's another leak up the steel pipe closer to the road.

I'm going to start calling this the Haney place. :frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty:

Some people around here would leave it and call it a "water feature."

Anyone have reference photos for a 6x6 lean-to shed they've built (or similar size)? Prefer slope towards front / away from adjacent building the shed will be placed against. I've been shopping around for one to put in our backyard for a while, but holy cripes are they steep in price if bought outright. I'm debating whether or not to build one myself... not sure if it'll be any cheaper, though. I'm by no means a carpenter, but can figure things out pretty quick.

I've read that it was the same truck the Clampetts used but not sure. I mean how many of those things would they have had?

I'd love to have that Lincoln.

We are starting our kitchen remodel soon. Does anyone think it's possible to remove the tile backsplash without completely destroying the sheetrock? Any tips?

Done backsplash one time and tried do save the drywall. Was easier to replace the drywall and start from scratch

yep, way easier to cut the edge of the tile and remove tile/drywall together. You won't be able to save the drywall

I want a new 50 gal NG hot water tank. The old one still works and is the original installed in 2002. I installed tanks myself in both of my previous houses, but I'm too old to be wrestling these things around now.

I've had about 6 estimates and most are around $2,200. Why? The AO Smith and Rheem tanks at the plumbing supply are in the $700-$800 range. So $1400 for a 2-3 hour job. There are a few changes to bring it up to code, but the tank is easily accessible and they all agree it's an easy install.

Is this reasonable and I need to just get a crow bar out and open up my wallet?

May be too late for advice, but...

I'd say keep the flag stones. And maybe run water line closer to the fire pit just for emergencies.

I feel the pain in the wallet thinking about this. I replaced my last water heater, man I hope it lasts a few more years. I wrestled the old one out and new one in to save money. Those days are over…. Yeah, find a reasonable offer and go with it. You don’t want to end up in the clinic over a water heater. Or maybe go with a tankless water heater…. A lot less weight.

I can’t stand all the dirt i between the flagstone. They are too far apart and I honestly don’t like they look of them anyways. There is a hose spigot just off camera right by the end of the deck so I’m good.

I did a pano shot so it looks like there’s more room but really isn’t much

Perks of working construction, finally worked on my own house. Dropped off a granite slab at my countertop guy, grabbed this scrap quartz for free, bought his guys lunch and he fabbed it up ready for a sink and faucet. Quartz, sink, faucet, drainwork, lunch $150 total cost. 3FFC8714-37EA-4A91-865E-DE0244B2827C.jpg

More work on my finished basement project. 600 square feet of LVP is laid but I need to grab my father’s table saw tomorrow to rip a few pieces to finish off the other 250-300 square feet.

Started a galvanized steel wall. I wanted an accent wall but the barn wood I wanted was too high of price now. I like this for now. Would be finished but my drill battery died and apparently I didn’t charge my other two:mad: 56B876D2-A1FF-4AC9-A0F2-3216F944DE3B.jpg

I installed an outlet in the closet to charge the wife’s Dyson. Fortunately there was an outlet in the other side of the wall so total cost was about $4 once I got a j-box from Amazon. Lowe’s was completely wiped out of j-boxes!

In the process of replacing all the carpet upstairs with the pergo outlast plus that I put in the basement. We have a VERY small house and maneuvering furniture and such to access the floors is a real pain. Spent today doing the hallway and into each bedroom. Lots of cuts, but the hard part is over. The bedrooms are small and basically squares so should go pretty easy tomorrow.

I am pretty pissed with pergo though. They discontinued the cap a tread color that I have…….essentially the cap a tread clamshells the stair and makes it sooooooo much easier. Now I have to buy the stair nose. But they only work with a flush step. So I have to find a way to rip the stair overhang flush with the riser. Problem is they’re built into the stair casing……and I really don’t feel like ripping the whole stair case apart. I have an idea of what to do but it won’t look as good as the cap a tread

    Progress today:

This was after I did the basement; stairs have the cap a tread:

Looks great. Flooring on a staircase can be a pain in the ass especially when the house was built in the 70’s.
