Cleared some room in the garage so I could build a work bench. Workbench is very simple and accommodates my new toolbox as well the drill/driver storage cabinet that I built. I made a few mistakes so it's not perfect but it's a workbench so I'm not too worried about it.

    20210405_134712.jpg

Initially, I wanted to build the cabinet into the bench but choose to put on casters. Cabinet has space for 8 drills/drivers and a charging drawer complete with a exhaust fan. For the fan I used an 80mm fan with thermostat intended for A/V cabinets. The drawer "handle" is oversized to act as an intake for the fan. The rear part of the cabinet is just large enough to store packout containers.

Close to finishing up my deck/porch project. Ran short of trim boards to finish up the bottom trim on the other side and wait for Green Mountain to have a sale to order a new grill.

Weird issue at my house I'm hoping you guys might be able to provide some insight on. I have a natural gas line to my deck for a BBQ that has no gas in it. When I open the valve, nothing comes out.

I've traced the line from the meter in through the furnace room to where it runs out to the other side of the house. Beyond there, it's above the basement ceiling so I don't know exactly how it's routed. I know it has gas in it where it leaves the furnace room because I have one line supplying both this line on the deck and the fireplace (which works). At one point I thought the deck line might have been disconnected to allow for the fireplace to be connected but I don't think that makes sense as the fireplace is original to the house as far as I know. I've also tried blowing through the deck gas line and it doesn't seem like it's open at the far end.

My basement was finished about 6 years after the house was built so my working theory is that there's another valve on this line that wasn't opened before they finished the basement ceiling. Why this line would have two valves when every single other line only has one baffles me but I can't come up with a better working theory.

Just wondering if you guys have any suggestions for next steps on this. The only options I can think of to go forward are (in order of "preference"):

    1) Start cutting holes in the ceiling of the basement near where I think the valve might be to see if it exists and I can open it.
    2) Buy a propane BBQ and sell my gas BBQ on Facebook Marketplace. Deal with the hassles of propane tanks.
    3) Learn to grill with charcoal, buy a charcoal BBQ and sell my gas BBQ on Facebook Marketplace. Deal with the hassles of charcoal.
    4) Hire this sketchy gas fitter my wife and I know to run a second line off our meter around the outside of our house to the deck.

Anything else you guys can think of that I could do?

Have you tried calling the gas company? That would be my first step!

I did have the gas company come out for a safety inspection two summers ago but they just focused on things like the furnace and fireplace flame quality. I was also working the day they came out so had my dad here to talk to the guy.

Finished up with our garden box. This box was originally a crate for a heavy component we had delivered to work. It's not dead square or pretty, but it's strong and at today's prices probably worth over $500. LOL!

We got the last coat of presevative today. Once the last of ou4 snow melts and I can open the side gate, we'll get it moved into the backyard and filled up.

We built one of these last summer but I just used raw plywood and 2x4s. It was cheap enough that I figure I'll just replace it when it rots. Can't find the pictures I took of it at the time.

    NICE JOB!

I built a small green house several years ago so I could get a jump on my garden.
Last weekend I transplanted some of my veggies in my garden boxes

As I get older I’ve learned to HATE mowing, trimming bushes, and dealing with out of control vegetation. One of our landscaping areas was especially troublesome. Since the wife won’t let me pour concrete over our entire property. I decided to remove the problem and create a rock garden. Went from one to the other.

    Very nice!

I've got about $70 worth of cedar (well, $70 in last year's dollars lol) for planter boxes...this reminds me that I need to get working on them.

I just got a quote for ASHPHALT and it was the same or higher than the concrete was a few years ago. I've passed on both with the rising rates of labor and materials.

I'm hoping there is 4 yards of 3/4 clean Black Granite in my driveway when I get home (I may need to order 4 more). Time to re-gravel it, tidy it up, put down edging. I live in a gravel driveway/road neighborhood (cheap taxes), so can live without a smooth driveway for a few more years. I was looking forward to a hard surface for the vehicles, washing them and working on them, but it's not happening at this time.

@BayRunner that looks sharp. We are going to do a few rock garden type projects this year too.

Spread out 4y of crushed granite.

$550 Canadian, delivered. No labour costs. The kids and I spread this with shovels and a rake in about an hour. I'll order a bit more, then some smaller, fill it all in and dampen it down and make sure it is level/graded properly.

New curb bumper stopper thingy ordered too....so my wife doesn't drive into the house. ;)

Water softener was installed yesterday and I had the plumber stub out a hose bib while it was all apart since there aren’t any in the front of my house (odd I know) to make watering the sod out front easier until they finally decide to turn on the irrigation water, as well as washing / pressure washing the driveway, filling up the camper tank before a trip, etc. Spigot is a hard water spigot as soft water is a no go for plants.
