We just finished that after only 15 years. I can only imagine a 65 year old house!

Oof! That’s no kidding. The shit people get away with in building houses sometimes baffles me.

Sounds like a hell of an orchard!

We have two hazelnut “trees” and a crap-ton of wild filberts on the property. This year was the first year I actually saw/noticed actual nuts on them...and we’ve lived here 15 years. All of a sudden, I couldn’t un-see hazelnut/filbert “trees” and the nut “pods” on them every where I went after that. I kept checking them, and then we were gone one weekend (I checked on Thursday before we left and they were looking like they were close to ready). Sunday afternoon when we got home, everything was stripped clean. I actually saw a squirrel running off one of the wild filberts and his cheeks were so full that his head was about 4x normal size. So next year, my plan is that at the first inkling that they MIGHT be ready, I’m picking them!

And seriously - what do people do with quince?

I have heard that squirrels will clean you out pretty quick if they get a chance. I will just have to burn that bridge when I cross it.

as for the quince, I don’t have a clue. I am planting food producing stuff everywhere and will figure out what to do with a quince when I have one, lol. Heard that they grow well here, so here I am!

Oh, yessir. But only if I have about 10 or 12. Big batch. There's a large controversy about Brunswick stew. About an hour west of me there's a Brunswick VA. There's also one in GA. They both claim to be the home of the original. My vote is for VA, have to go with the home team.

My wife works at an organic farm. They have a quince tree...and the farmers haven’t figured out a use for them that they want to bother with. Sounds like jelly is the most common.

On the hazelnuts/filberts - yes, I read that when the squirrels take the first one, you better be picking! I also read they take 7 years to start producing.

I’m pretty sure it’s Georgia. Only because Brunswick stew is standard fare all over the south, but I could be wrong.

Quince jelly sounds good to me!

my research led me to expect hazelnuts to begin to yield in 3 to 4 years. I’m 65 and trying to plant stuff I can harvest long before I go. This leaves walnuts out.

Trying to figure out why my house is so GD dry despite the humidifier on my furnace. Just realized that the water valve to the pump was closed so I unscrewed the line from the pump suction and flushed it to make sure there was no crud then hooked it back up. However, it doesn't sound to me like the pump is running when the furnace is. The power cables run into the furnace so I'm not that interested in opening it up and trying to troubleshoot it...

Well drywall is completed. Time to paint and I’m doing it. Question for you guys. Can I get away with an all in one paint and primer or do I need to primer the new plaster with a stand alone? C18767BC-EC05-41CF-99D5-000514729D45.jpg95F20ABF-1C6D-4AFB-9DDD-D936DE8E9122.jpg

Going over fresh plaster, you’re best off with a sealing primer. Otherwise that plaster will suck the moisture out of your paint and you’ll have problems with the sheen not being consistent.

Installed a bidet on the upstairs toilet, and snaked the bathtub drain. I’m not gonna share pic of that, because someone might be reading this while they eat. Suffice it to say that two teenage girls are capable of packing a LOT of hair and gunk down a bathtub drain.

Totally an optical illusion, but compared to the baseboard that shelf looks FAR from level.

For the faint of heart here's a pic. They do work extremely well, I usually have to clean it out every day but it beats pulling wookies out of the drain.
