I swear every time I watch a Flip or Flop, Fixer Upper, ect... I always think that "open concept" look nice with staged furniture but where the hell are you going to plug in a lamp.

I’m thinking this as well. I like the gravity grabber ideas. The metal forks do let skis slide to top and clamp the rocker pretty good which I don’t like.

I love it, have the same type of hoist for my 2 cruiser bikes. Now if I could just find a place to buy my kayak I would be really stoked. Plan on using the same type of hoist!

Yeah it’s hard to come by a decent kayak right now. I bought mine online from BKC back in August thinking I’d have time to use it before it got cold, but it wasn’t delivered until early December.

Well, I lost the battle of removing the half walls and raising the floor to create a straight step down into the living room. We're about 3x over the original budget for what was to be a simple remodel of just a kitchen and 2 bathrooms. The half walls are going to stay and be redone with new drywall. We might see if there is something that can be added to the tops of the half walls to set things on so it doesn't mess up the new drywall again. Mail, wife's purse, keys, etc all get placed there.

^ Granite with a bullnose edge might look nice on top of the half walls.

Honestly, I had a 1/2 wall in my house instead of getting rid of it I made it a full wall and it gave me a place to hang a TV. I just tried to take out any of the weird.

I feel your pain, I literally moved my kitchen in my house, vaulted the ceiling. I did 80% of the work myself and it took me forever while working full time and with a newborn. We didn’t budget it we just cash flowed everything so no debt but still a sticker shocked and I even got everything at a deal.

Someone mentioned granite...that probably won't be too bad for price if you can manage to find a place with a remnant that will work. Other options would be quartz (again, try to find a remnant) or a solid-surface like Corian. Good old wood also works. Obviously, the curve makes it a little bit of a challenge, but a quality hardwood plywood with bent solid wood edge banding can be made to match the curve and look good. Finish it with several good coats of a high-build polyurethane for protection and you'll be in good shape.

Finally got to the point where I can share my latest improvement. Still have crown and some paint to finish but getting to the finish line. Did it all myself sans the quartz counters. After and before.

    Huge improvement. Looks great!
Is that can light over the fridge going to clear your crown molding? I had a similar issue over my laundry sink, but was able to relocate the light just enough to clear the crown.

What about opening them up and convert them into shelves for knick-knacks and shit? Shelves facing the door and then on the other half-wall, shelves facing the living room. Face them with some wood, put a cool top on them. It might look kind of cool and it would make them functional.

Made my minion children an ADHD controlling fidget board. Does this count as "home improvement"?

That's a good idea. The straight half wall would be easier to manage that than the curved one.

I was thinking of something similar by using the same quartz we picked out for the kitchen countertops. The bad thing is that we'll have just enough from a full slab to do the kitchen with nothing left over. The countertop guy did throw in another piece roughly 3-4ft by 1ft that I asked him about to be the top of the bench seat in the master bath shower. I assume they have some leftovers from other jobs laying around. I'll try asking him what that would cost to cover the half walls as an option. We just picked our countertops yesterday and they should be back out here after the new year to install.

Maybe you could use the same tile as the floor? Wrapped with some trim or bullnose to cover the cut edges?

Base color was sprayed on the exterior today. Trim and garage door will be painted a dark grey tomorrow. Hard to tell, but the original color was light beige and the new color is swiss white. Ended up painting the brick in the upper portion of the center in white and around the windows will be grey.

I’ve done that before, it comes out pretty clean looking with the right trim. I’ve made some badass window sills in my day that way.

These were the endcaps that our contractor welded up to slide over the exterior beams that were rotted from the rain. Mainly the beam on the left that got drenched from the roof runoff every time it rained. These were primed and then will be painted tomorrow with the trim. They are sealed up so no more water will break them down.

Quick question for the experts. We are almost done building our home in pueblo west and are trying to figure out internet. Century link quoted us 1.5 mbps, yes you read that right 1.5 mbps. Does anyone have any experience with nomad internet service? Or ideas for best rural internet service? With the wife working from home and my daughter doing kindergarten from home there is alot of bandwidth with the zooming in our household. Thanks in advance for the info and replies.
