So a week or so ago I planted so Scotts turf builder grass seed and yesterday I noticed that it had started growing. So in my genius, in the middle of August during a heat wave decided to plant some more. Because I'm smrt.

Almost done with an Adirondack loveseat made of cedar. Planned to seal it with virtually a clear coat, but now my wife wants to stain it to match our door. I consider that blasphemy since I picked cedar.

Will finish the back rest tomorrow.

It’s SW Washington. Even though our smaller town is more “Country”, we’re 45 min from Portland the shithole of the west coast.

We hate the politicians, but love the mountains that are 1.5-3hrs away, desert 3hrs away, high mountain lakes 1.5-3hrs away, and Coast 1.5hrs away. Columbia River is less than 10min from our place - good fishing.

I seeded my back lawn after trenching for conduit and then immediately let my chickens out without thinking. The tubby little bastards ate 90% of it. They had the Need for Seed.. (thats an ongoing joke now between my husband and I)

Getting the house ready to sell. So far painted the doors and changed out lights.

Between working on my old truck and house stuff time is limited for anything else. Don’t mind the pup. I just can’t do anything without him wondering why he’s not involved

Little paver install this past weekend. Ripped out the existing palm with a tow strap and my truck, dug out the rest, compacted, DG fill, compact and level, set, sand and compact again.

We split it, I took my half and gave him the rest. Was pretty damn tasty and I don't even like bananas.

I see a lot of you have been busy. I'm mid bathroom remodel and started rebuilding my dad's kitchen cabinets yesterday. Bathroom is on hold until I get the shower valve and buy the tile. We built new face frames for the cabinets the last couple days and will start the doors next weekend. Here's the cabinets progress pics. IMG_20200822_144916.jpg

Hi, I went through this decision when redoing the bathroom a couple years ago.

Quarts is synthetic, thus it requires zero maintenance other than normal cleaning. From what I was told it doesn't stain, or scratch easily. That all sounded nice, but I found it to be less appealing because it looks very synthetic in its design. The patterns to me were just unattractive and unnatural looking.

Granite is obviously not synthetic, and it requires regular cleaning with granite cleaner. Most granite comes with a four year seal, but after that you will have to reseal it yourself, otherwise it will hold on to stains since it is porous, and it may stain even with the sealer in placed if they missed a spot. One other minor detail is if your kitchen is larger and you need a lot of counter space and need two pieces of granite from a separate slab the colors may not match. You could do a scrap piece if you are doing an island of a similar but different granite and do the rest of the counters in another piece.

I would highly recommend the quartz if you can find a design you like, as again it is low to no maintenance, and more durable. Whichever you choose, please go to a place that specializes in selling only solid counter tops. Dom't buy it from the big box stores, or the kitchen stores (the kitchen stores charge and arm and a leg because they are acting as the middle man). You will basically get your cabinets installed and then the counter place will come out and measure separately to figure out what you need as far as size. Shop around obviously and look at both, and see which one is visually more appealing to you since you will likely have to stare at it for the next decade or so. Most granite places have granite "scraps" which are small to large piece of granite that you can get at a discounted rate providing there is a big enough piece for your project. I got a BEAUTIFUL scrap piece of granite and I paid about a 1/4 of what I would have if I ordered a fresh piece. Bird not included, although if he doesn't stop being an asshole he will be. ;)

    I'll include some pics....
