This seems like a good thread to ask a question. Looking to possibly add in some shelving/baskets to put the kids clothes once folded. Not wanting too low so we dont tear up our backs putting clothes on there, hit also dont want too high and kids cant reach. Here are pics of the laundry room now. Any ideas appreciated. Going to try to put where the chair and trash can are located now.

Our house was built in the 1890's and added on to throughout the years. Not a lot of cabinet or closet space (we have 1 closet under the stairs). We ended up having cabinets installed in our laundry room to store our overflow stuff. So, I'm a bit of a storage nut. I'd probably put cabinets on the wall above the washer and dryer, all the way across with a tall floor to wall cabinet in the corner, leaving enough space for a rolling laundry cart to put between it and the washer. Kind of like what we have over our water filter (the tall cabinet was there when we moved in).IMG_1590.jpg

We have plenty of storage in this house. Owning a smaller house for a few years before we built gave us ideas. Are you saying to add that for the clothes or just as an idea to utilize wasted space? But sounds like a rolling cart to put the kids' clothes is what you're suggesting.

Both really but, myself, I'd probably do a rolling cart for the kids clothes.

Maybe a few shelves straight across? Keep in mind, everyone is doing shelves so some department stores are about out of shelving brackets

I just did a couple of shelves and a hanger thing(?)

Nice cabinets. Were they custom or premade cabinets?

Cleaned and washed the deck last week. Gota coat of stain down over the weekend. Need to do railings and a few touch ups this week. I may have enough stain to do a second coat. The car wash brush makes short work and saves my back.
I highly recommend Armstrong Clark oil based deck stain.

Probably not the best recommendation as far as costs go, but for a good long-term solution would be to do front-loaders and put a countertop over them. Above your washer/dryer is wasted space. That’s where we fold our clothes, then leave them stacked for each family member to come pick up.
We were supposed to have a hanger area with a shelf to the left but the cabinet guy forgot to build it, and I didn’t notice until a year later LOL.

So I'm feeling like I missed the question part by not being specific enough. I'm trying to get clothes available for my kids to put their own clothes away. Right now they're 4, 18 month, and a week old. So I'm trying to find something to put in so that THEY can reach it, not more storage. Sorry if I worded it all wrong. But then end goal is to get the kids to be able to have baskets/shelves to be able to get their clothes, and bring to their own room/closets. Sorry for confusion.

I think just to the left of the machines a simple 2 tiered shelf big enough to fit 2 laundry baskets side by side would be good. So 2 baskets on the floor, 2 on the middle shelf, and then the top for folding.

I'm not the handiest guy, so not much help there, but I'd suggest going to something that isn't super permanent, or that is adjustable in height to accommodate the growth of the kiddos. You might be able to do something with a lifting/lowering top similar to the standing desks used in offices. This way you could have it raise for you and the wife to load up, and then lower all the folded laundry down to tot level without killing your backs. Purely a concept suggestion; you'll have to consult the actual experts in here for designs.

Same, too much shit. Its driving my wife crazy but she says the garage is mine so its mine to clean/organize. I can park in it still so i am procrastinating on the cleaning part.

I'm use to having a basement for storage. But moving to Texas, houses don't have basements. So my garage is our "catch all". It's driving me insane.

Build a shed? I'm not a fan of basements (or stairs) so I will go for cabinets in the garage when I build a house, and possibly have a storage unit for seldom used items that I can't bring myself to part with.

I want to build a shed. But unfortunately this is a rental. When we buy a house that'll be one of the first things I build.

Not sure how cost effective it would be, but you could use this https://www.pods.com/ and then it can just be picked up and taken to wherever you move and unloaded.

    • Built a media cabinet/ fridge cabinet? to match the giant table I made a few months back. Relocated all wiring for speakers/ etc to inside of the cabinet.
    • Put up flooring material behind projector screen as an accent wall sort of thing.
    • Built barn doors for my daughter's nursery. (First baby, due 07/26/20):) Used 3/4" ply and some 1x6s, 1x4s, 1x2s. Hardware purchased from the Amazons.

As a repairer of equipment I cringe when I see something like that, the poor repair man. Two things I put the foot down 100% when home buying and selling, no "extra fancy" built in appliances and not one dollar to go to American Home Shield.

not "extra" fancy, "extra fancy" as in washing machines with $800 boards and a touch screen in the fridge door.
