Had our 7th annual SoCal Tundra Outlaw Anniversary meet. We raised $17k for Camp Ronald McDonald, a camp for kiddos with cancer. Over 130 trucks, huge potluck, and tons of prizes. An awesome time.

Not according to KBB, it's actually right in line

I would prefer a '20-'21 platinum trim with under $50k miles but zero around here

If it's completely stock, MSRP on this was $45,493.

So, here's my .02 on pricing...

No, the price isn't great, and it's probably sitting above original MSRP. It's not fun to think you're paying more than MSRP for a used truck, but given the current market, it's also not completely out of line either...

Here's what is driving the price up on this truck. It's a '21 (2.5 gen) w/low miles. It wasn't used as a commerical vehicle. It doesn't show any accident history, it's single owner, and the Gen 3 issues have drove the market price of low mileage Gen 1, 2, and 2.5s way up. Folks thought that as the model years of the 3rd gens continued coming out, trust of the gen/brand would recover, but it hasn't.

Another plus point is that it appears to have been put in service at the end of '21, so it's probably late in the year production October or later (I'd check for a production date on the door jamb). The earlier '21s had a few more issues w/quality control than the later ones. Remember this was a time period where trucks were sitting at rail lines, etc. waiting for chips and such and some sustained 'wear' w/o use while in limbo.

You have to assess value to you and your long term outlook of the truck. If you're buying it to use for a year or two then looking to sell it, then probably not a great idea to pay the higher prices right now, cuz you will take a loss; and that loss will be more significant if you're financing all or a large portion of the vehicle. Very easy to end up 'upside down' in the transaction for several years.

On the other hand, if you're wanting to get into a low mileage 2.5 gen tundra and plan on keeping it for 200k miles, you'll forget about the few extra thousand you paid over MSRP on your purchase and the extra cost really won't matter much in the long run.

So, if you're keeping it for a long time and not paying high interest rates, and it's the truck you really want... then don't let the price point be the determining factor; consider it a 'consideration'...

On the other hand, I also wouldn't pay for a truck at the current market price that doesn't check all my necesssary boxes... In other words, if it doesn't have some of the features you REALLY want or need, don't settle especially since you're paying a premium for the truck.

Also, keep in mind that shipping is somewhat costly now. So, if the vehicle is local to you that's a plus as it allows you to inspect the truck and not deal w/trasnsport fees on top of the price.

Don't be afraid to haggle a bit w/the dealer as there is always 'room' in the used car market.

Good luck with your decision and the purchase if you end up going after it

    All good points.

If it makes you feel any better @ThatGuyTheCooler , the MSRP would amount to $54k in todays dollars. So you would be getting a $6k discount miles on the vehicle. I haven’t seen a lot of ‘21 trucks with fewer than 45 or 50k miles. I purchased a ‘21 double cab SR5 end of last year with 60k miles; it was one of the lowest mileage in my area that wasn’t crazy money or had some sort of history. There was a virtually identical 2017 a few hours away that had been used as a commercial vehicle in Canada. Same mileage. I ended up haggling down to within $1000 of that trucks price for my ‘21.

Personally I think $48k is high, but not exorbitant given the current state of trucks as described above by @Tripleconpanna, as sad as it sounds…

I don't know exactly what that means... but it was the same tune Kyle was running with his tow rig. So far, I have noticed it has much better shift points and just seams a lot smoother.
He told me it would be "learning" for the next 200-500 miles. Supposedly, better HP/Torque and fuel economy.
One thing he did tell me to do is clean the Mass Air Flow sensor. I am running the Stillen cold air intake with an oiled filter. Some of that oil may end up on the sensor and mess with how it is reading the incoming air. I am going to get a can of MAF sensor cleaning solvent and give it a very gentle cleaning. If it has the red oil on it, I may buy the dry filter from Stillen.

I'm trading a paid off 4runner pro @ $51 and buying this for $48. So no car payment. Plan is to keep it for as long as circumstances allow (need, kids ...). I had a '20 SR5 double cab I sold used for more than I paid new. Got the 4runner and had a 3rd kid unexpectedly. So missing the truck and the room.

Up here, many used are rusty from salt. This had wooleax applied, it's literally like new

It's in line w KBB and current pricing in my area. I'd like the platinum trim but impossible to find

That's a good position to be in... sure, higher than we are used to paying but in today's market you gained a little on your sale and lose a little on the purchase. It is what it is, and you'll be happy w/the extra room. Your story is somewhat familiar...

I purchased a 2019 4Runner Limited new w/the intention of moving to a smaller rig since I was retiring, and came to find that I wasn't driving it as much as my '08 Tundra. The more narrow cabin area just felt cramped. Even the center console was annoying w/a passenger in the car cuz it felt like we were always banging elbows on it. The intention was to pass it on to the wife in a couple years as her primary vehicle once the 3rd gen tundras came out and grab one of those. But, once the '22s came out, I didn't care for it; especially the interior set up. Felt more like a tacoma to me and again, I just wasn't as comfortable.

Wife dedicided the 4Runner felt too much like a truck to her and wanted to get back in a subaru, so I sold the 4Runner outright to a dealer (for a few thousand more than I paid for it new) and began a mad dash scramble to find one of the last new '21 Pros (search began in sept '21) that wasn't priced $10-$15k over MSRP.... I got luckly about a month later and found one w/o a bunch of BS add ons, and priced at MSRP. First time in my life I paid MSRP for a vehicle; plus I'm on the west coast and it was in Iowa, so I paid just under $2k for transport. I struggled really hard w/paying MSRP on vehicle, but wife encouraged the purchase (basically told me I would be stupid to pass it up), so 5 minutes later I dropped a $5k deposit on it and secured the vehicle. Even MSRP +$2k in transport, I was still more than $5k less than any dealer within 500 miles of me, so was it a win??

Wasn't sure at the time, but once the vehicle arrived and I started driving it, I pretty much forgot about the extra $$$ spent on it and I haven't looked back. I still have my '08, and it's approaching 300k miles. I plan to keep the '21 until it drops, so in the grand scheme of things, coupled w/the fact I made a few thousand on the 4Runner.... I feel that those transactions kinda balanced out, and I'm more than happy with the purchase.

Based on what your saying, and your position financially on the vehicle, if you're good w/the options (I know you said you'd prefer a limited), I'd say make it happen and enjoy your new truck. Just do you due deligence since you're paying a premium for it and still try to negotiate a little off the price or have them throw in some accessories or maintenance that's coming up into the deal. (First drain n fill, front and rear diff service, transfer case, etc.. most of us do our first service on these at 30k)...

This is all so wild to me. My 2019, per Carvana's monthly updates, is still just under $39k. I bought it new in 2019 for $45 and put 60k miles on it. But it is just a timing thing, I suppose. Our camper is similar, even with that market softening.

I'd try for $45k and if that seals the deal, I'd be happy as a clam driving a nearly new truck I'd have lots of confidence in and many, many years of service out of. Even if they didn't budge, given what the market is, the other offerings available and the fact it is the color you want with the mileage you want, I'd still be pretty happy overall. You can add essentially every feature you're missing, so I am not sure you're really missing anything. That's just me, though. 11k miles is amazing! Get them to toss some new tires on there for you since they're nearly at their half life on age. :)

New boots! Much better ride. The last set had tread separation on one of the tires, lots of shaking, etc. smooth as silk now. I buy offbrand tires because I go through a set in a year or less and can’t justify the cost of name brand rubber at $2k a set. These cost $689 with the discount shipped to my door. 12 ply tread and 3 ply sidewall, I’m hoping to get more than a year out of them but my roads eat tires for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
