I'm in an OBS Chevy group on facebook and most of those guys swear up and down that the Tundra 5.7 is just a 350 SBC that Toyota bought the blueprints from Chevy for. I can't wrap my head around it, other than displacement, there's no similarities.

Hahaha yeah the only real difference is the displacement...Toyota has far tighter tolerances...though, the intake manifolds are close :anonymous:

Do you have to plug the holes in the throttle body? Wil any air get into the coolant system when you disconnect and tie the hose together? I am assuming you are using a coupler to joint these 2 hoses, do you know what size by chance?
Any other info we should know about?

If any air gets in there it’s minimal. No need for a coupler. Just use one of the hoses to connect the two ports. See the braided hose in the pic? That was going to the right port on the throttle body. Pulled it off and then connected it to the other port. I haven’t capped off the throttle body ports yet but haven’t noticed any issue driving around.

I'm still confused ... If IAT is measured at airbox how can air temp at throttle body be confirmed? Surely inlet air at throttle body doesn't hang around long enough to be excessively heated?

Rey lives here too. It rarely gets close to 20F on the coast.

The lowest temp I have seen in the valley for the 27 years I've lived here is around 7F. The hottest temp around 114F.

I have also been in Central Oregon in late June and have it be 90F on one day, and have frost on the windshield the next morning and not get above 60F with 30mph winds.

Also by the time you warm the truck up and defrost anything the engine heat is fine and enough to unstick the tb if that were happening

The Tundra 5.7L doesn't seem to have any similarities with the LS from watching "I Do Cars" youtube videos of him taking apart failed engines. I only think he's had 1 or 2 of them.

Then again, I haven't had my hands inside any engine outside of an air-cooled flat4 VW engine.

I got a GoPro Hero 8 back in 2019 primarily to use when shooting USPSA, and the thing shuts off when I start hitting the bang switch on my 9mm Major Open gun. I have the hand-held gimbal thing for my other one which makes for some nice stabilized videos. Never been happy with the battery life on them, especially trying to record 4K videos.

Have you looked at using Runcam? I have a 5, it is about the size of the GoPro Session cameras. Made primarily for RC cars/planes.

I don't think it ever gets 20F on the coast, has a hard time even hitting mid 30s.
I'm wondering what temp should I be concerned and re-hook up the hoses to the throttle body here in the valley? If it freezes, or does it need to be a lot colder than that.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time believing this could make any mpg differences, too.

I'm going off the data I've seen on my telemetry app. If an engine runs cooler it takes less effort no? Lower iat temps means the cooler air enters the engine and less effort is required to cool said air in all aspects. Not sure why the bypass resulted in the cooler iat temp and coolant temp but just know it did make a difference.

    I dunno?

I think the engine would run more efficiently with temps warmer.

The delta T for ignition to occur is less when warm.

Every fuel injected vehicle I've owned git better mpg in hot temps.

I don't attribute the difference entirely to winter blend fuel.

Something is missing here. I cannot discount your experience or the data that you are collecting. However, everything that I have ever learned about engines and fuel injection says that you should not be seeing a gain here. I don't think that you will see a loss either.
Not running coolant through the throttle body should make zero different on coolant temps. The flow and heat transfer to/from the throttle body is nothing compared to the rest of the engine and your radiator has enough extra capacity that this should make no difference.
The amount of air flow through the throttle body is high enough that it will not pick up much temperature at all from a warmer throttle body. Now if you heated the entire intake manifold that might be different. Maybe?
Warmer intake charge will be thinner and as such should be using less fuel to run at 14.7:1. But again, I just don't see that little throttle body making that big of a difference.
    I may be missing something????
Cold with high humidity conditions like engine braking down a mountain pass could very well find you with problems if you eliminate this circuit. Be careful if you try this because you could very well lose engine power if the TB freezes. This would cause the loss of power steering and power brakes.
Be careful if you are doing this.

By no means an expert just reporting the data I've seen. I was not expecting any changes in temps or anything for that matter when doing this mod lol.

Question guys, so is true that “ trailer break error and pre collision malfunction “ just need a software update ? Thanks for the help in advance.

changed oil and used the motivx filter drain tool. WOW it made for such a cleaner experience.

tires rotated and balanced, and installed an additional tailgate dampener strut thing, helps slow it down a bit.
