I usually go 480-520 miles per tank. I fill up when my range gets down to less than 20 miles.

I'll be tearing into my dash once I get a dual zone hvac housing to swap in... stopping by the parts yard tomorrow to try to convince them to pull one out of a limited they've got in the back, if I buy all the leather seats out of it.

Any tips / gotchas come to mind on the dash disassembly?

I did a forward camera install. Lots of dash assembly for that process. You might want to look at some of the posts there for the dash disassembly.https://www.tundras.com/threads/2014-2021-front-rear-anytime-camera-mod-frac-harness.13633/unread

Pulled the rear shocks and cleaned them up then some polish. Heat shrunk the clamps and threw some new stickers on. Decided I’ll get all the shocks cerakoted at some point. Since the raw aluminum does take a beating.

Well, I wish I was able to document it. Patience, take pictures as you go for reference, put fasteners in bags and label them or tape them to the part they secure (or back in the holes when it's an option). Fortunately the wiring can't be plugged into the wrong places as they're all different (for the most part). You'll have to go a step further than me and remove the dash subframe. Have a plastic trim removal tool and trim fastener removal tool handy. Grab some spare clips as you'll inevitably break some. I never found a video to show the whole dash removal, but there's one by a member here on removing the trim from the face of the dash. Hopefully you have a heated garage with plenty of space for the parts. Avoid doing it in the cold, as the plastic will be more brittle.

It's quite an undertaking to swap to dual climate control. You've got to really want it. I hope you're not disappointed with the end result as even with dual climate control it's still a small space where it will equalize fairly quickly. Also, I'd consider getting a new unit instead, or compare the cost anyways. To do all that labour, then have something go bad and have to go through it again would be painful.

Removed painter's tape from painting the chrome on my shift knob...and whhhaaaa?!?!? o_O

Is all the black "leather" on the 1794s faux or bonded leather? It seems all the brown leather is full grain.

Thank you for showing me exactly what my truck will look like! :D

Did you do the recommended UCA's or stay with OEM?

It is more that the previous owner smoked in my truck and while I could rip out and replace the seats and seat belts, pull out and wash the carpets in a big clothes washer, and possibly replace the headliner, all of those are honestly not that bad at all, but the hvac box seems to perpetually be an old-cigarette-smell-pump, even with a new cabin air filter. pulling the box and vents and doing the parts-washer trick like you did for the vents is probably my best bet, and once i get there i might as well add dual zone to the hvac box :)

You might want to consider renting an ozone generator and run that in there for a bit. I had a truck that I really wanted but it smelled like an ashtray and knew that the Ministry of Finance wouldn't bless it smelling that way. A detail shop ran that ozone generator in there for 12 hours or so and the odor was gone.

I've got an ozone generator, and ran it in there with the truck running and the heat on for about 4 hours (helloooo idle fuel consumption...) and yes it helped a huge amount, but even just a week later, the heat smells again...

I'll run it again before my florida trip though. maybe i'll hook up a charger and run it overnight in the garage

that won't do anything for the smoke smell in the vents, the truck closes all those up when it's off

What about cycling between the windshield, face, and floor vents, cycling hot and cold, and using recirculate?

That is probably best with the ozone generator running, just have to do that without breathing the ozone as it damages lungs :)

I agree! I'm from the Vancouver area. The warmer climate and prolific drugs have led to tent cities hidden all around and an entire community besieged! They don't hold any of them accountable as they are thought to be victims of their chosen addiction. Many hardened criminals from across the country hide amongst them. Maybe if you shoot someone between the eyes with witnesses you could be kept in jail for a bit.

Not a bad idea to run it for a longer period of time. Also, look into renting a "commercial" unit to use. After my experience with de-odorizing the truck we had a camper that was repo'd and the deadbeat left the fridge and freezer full of food in the Texas summer heat. After having all the maggots and decomp goop out I ran an ozone generator for a couple days and it helped a lot. If I recall correctly I rented the commercial unit for something like $28 a day.

Made a shifter knob from an elk leg bone. It had the perfect grip already built in.
