With my Valhalla plates I’am getting between 14 and 16 mpg. Running 285/70/18 tires. I don’t think the plates hurt your gas.

You'd think having some plates to streamline airflow would be better aerodynamics, but I'm no wind scientist ‍♂️

Forward looking camera, Stub Antenna, 3M clearshield. A few other non lifted items.
Adding the cat plates should help the aero flow, but not significantly. Similar to adding a tonneau cover will help with aero, but not significantly either. All the little adds add up tho.

I almost went this route and installed the same radio. But I didn't like how it recessed into the dash. I installed a Stinger head unit instead, a floating head unit with a mounting bracket that hides everything around the unit. I still have the Kenwood sitting on my workbench still in the box never opened.

What headunit do you have you did not install? I don’t like about some of the reviews with the larger floating headunit rebooting and other issues. I have to say my JBL headunit with my aftermarket system and DSR1 works great.

Thought I’d be ok with running steelies for the winter months. Didn’t like it so I got TRD Replika rims for the winter.

I gotta stop looking at some of the trucks on this site, I can’t stop wanting more mods lol

Oh and got under-body rust proofing done too.

The difference I'm trying to figure out is with the cooling fan as the main suspect. Earlier this year while still on the stock skid I was experimenting with how much airflow needs to pass through the upper grill before temps rise and trigger the cooling fan clutch on the freeway. It doesn't take much increase before the fan kicks up, maybe 5 degrees, and the first sign is the engine running cool. I have 4 small 3d printed panels that was about the limit as long as it was under 95° outside. It was getting great mileage with them.

The valhalla cat plates certainly didn't hurt and they're staying on, but as soon as the engine skid went on the highway mileage went down a lot. I couldn't even get 14 when before I was doing 19+. After more trial and error last month I was catching the cooling fan spinning up in freezing cold air on the freeway with a coolant temp of 190F. All blocks removed helped somewhat but it still did it a few times last trip. You can tell when in cruise the instant mileage reading drops a good 5 mpg for a bit and the coolant/trans temps fall a few degrees a few seconds after. Sometimes if the road noise is quiet you can hear it too.

The stock skid stays high and tight until it mates up to a foam strip so it blocks off the lower portion of the area in front of the radiator. As the valhalla skid profile drops well in front of the radiator, the low pressure you normally get down there might be drawing airflow downward before the rad and cutting down airflow thru it. A lot of times when a car has a wind dam down there it's not just for aero; the low pressure zone behind it helps force air thru the radiator.

Anyways it's just a test for a while but so far I haven't heard the fan again.

I wasn't really paying attention to how long, and have been doing various things at once. Between completely removing the dash/centre console and disassembling individual components I'd say 8 hours. That's really taking my time though. Patience is key.

Cleaned it really good and then wiped down with alcohol prep pad. Shot two coats and let it dry outside when it was 80 or so.

I wouldn't mind an upgrade myself. Do you lose any of the stock functionality like mileage/range and whatever else is in there?
