What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

IDK, man. This series of scuffs came from my son gingerly running his fingers across my filthy truck. The car wash scrubbers have more ass behind their little fingers than he does. At the end of the day, it’s all about conscientious pre-rinsing and fogging the ever loving shit out of dirt with foam to emulsify it... that way it doesn’t etch this extremely dainty Toyota paint.

 

Yeah I have to say... the paint is unbelievably thin. My kids look at it the wrong way and it’s scratched.

 

Same. I mean, I'd rather have a Tundra with thin paint than a Ford with a sh*tload of it, but still...this shouldn't be a tough issue to change/fix.

Thanks! Can't take credit for the lux light idea though. Another member(can't remember who?) on here posted about them. Pretty impressed with how easy they are to install and how bright they are.

 

Speaking from experience, I totally wrecked my paint (headlights, hood and rooftop specifically) on my 2010 by using the car wash way too often. Lesson learned...My new truck is never going through one.

I did not know that euro key was available for the tundra! What did the locksmith charge for programming?

 

Milestone reached today picking up the kids from school.

 

Did 1 can cover both sides? Thinking about trying it on all 4 corners.

 

Yeah, 1 can was just enough to do roughly 6 coats per side. The can suggests 6-8 coats, so we'll see how it holds up. I'm figuring 1 more can to do both rears. If the weather holds up, I'm gonna do it tomorrow.

 

Got the Line X done today. Next project is the @mattgecko bed lights that came yesterday. Also ordered the OEM tailgate letters and bed mat.

 

Nice... I wasn’t sure if I’d want to keep the bed mat after LineX but definitely glad to have it. Keeps things from sliding around, easier to get dirt off of, etc.

 

Seems like everyone is doing thin coats these days for weight relief. Ford has paint issues, too. There is at least one open class action lawsuit about it.

 

I was on the fence about it too, but I read some reviews on here of people who have both and that swayed me into getting it.

 

It's not a 3" lift and 35's, but sometimes it's the small things. Plus I'm going to be looking at it every time I jump in the truck. This is what the steering wheel should have looked like from the factory. I wound up paining the emblem, but I have a brand new unopened black ebay overlay waiting on someone here to PM me and claim it.


Now for that center console trim, and those vent rings that keep poking me in the eye...

 

That looks really good Steven! I like it being painted over using an overlay. The emblem seems more crisp that way.

 

Yeah the overlays look like crap.

 

Did you just pop off the logo to paint it? I’ve been afraid to pull on it too hard.

 

Steering Wheel Emblem Removal for Painting

Don't just tug on it. There are plastic welds keeping it locked onto the airbag pad. @ElNopal posted the path to remove it (linked above); but some folks have taped theirs off and painted. Whichever path is right for you is the one you should take.

 

Wheels and tires went on today. No rubbing . Some interior Crome delete and tow hooks are now red. Think I’m done for awhile...maybe like a week

 

Tow hooks like nice! I think that's next in line for me... Gonna try for the TRD red.

 

Took a ride out with some Tundra homies last week.



Also did a drain/fill of the tranny fluid before the cat covers get welded on tomorrow.



Then I had some sun damage in the paint on the headlight bezels. So I installed some vinyl wrap eyebrows for the headlights.

Will that bumper match up to RCI skid plate? I would think so since the bumper and skid plates match up to OEM locations.
