For another $8 you can paint the machined parts of the rims

I've had the paint for about 6 months now. I'm doing it finally on Sunday. Any advise other than wear gloves??

Wow those look great. In all honesty fully black rims just aren’t my thing. I love the mix of colors on the OR wheels.

Sure. Don’t do it!...just kidding. I made a mistake by completely removing the caliper (as suggested by the instructions) on the first wheel (rear drivers) I learned quick the Duplicolor paint takes a long time to dry and I needed to drive my truck. For the other rear caliper I just removed one of the mount bolts and rotated out toward the brake line slack for better access. Of course, I taped off what I could so not to get paint where I didn’t want it. Caliper Bolt torque spec is 70 Lb-ft. I used brake cleaner and brush to clean the best I could. For the fronts I cleaned, taped off, and painted in place. The single paint brush wasn’t enough and had to steal some old brushes my kids used to use for art stuff. Even after a couple days, the paint still felt tacky. I’ve read the hand-paint last longer than the spray. I believe it based on how hard this paint is to clean-up! Best of luck! One more thing: Good lighting is critical.

Thought I was going to spend max of 2 hours cleaning her... ended up spending 5+.

From afar, you wouldn’t see all the road salts rusting away on your paint until you look closer.

2.5hrs + using a clay bar to remove all of the damn contaminants.

Anybody living in the North East that sees this on their white Tundra/white paint?

My Tundra isn’t white but my 2016 Corolla is. And it doesn’t see the love that my trucks have gotten but I do get a complete inside and out cleaning every six weeks. Salt absolutely destroys these vehicles. I hate it but it’s a necessary evil I guess.

My wife’s Highlander is in Pearl white and that is holding up much better.

Replace original single iridium tip spark plugs to twin tip plugs, also replaced the serpentine belt, auto tensioner and idler pulley. No more squeak, truck drive much smoother and more responsive, after the plug changes!

They sure do. They go out 4 ish inches, forgot to measure them when extended. I just went for a drive tonight and I like them. Great views in the mirrors. I'd prefer that the marker lights in the back of the mirror blinked with the hazard or turn signals, vs just the red led arrows in the mirrors, so this way they would be extra front facing turn signals, but otherwise I am quite pleased with them. When I install the OEM LED bed mounted cargos lights you tap them into the dash switch for the top cargo light. I will likely tie the rear facing white spot lite leds in the mirrors to that circuit, so that if I want to turn them on manually, I can and otherwise I will leave them on auto and they will act kinda like puddle lights.

So are the amber lights on the side only marker lights, or are they blinkers? Thanks for the info.

Found out it’s called rail dust or better yet, it’s brake dust that flies and clings onto your paint. Add water and it causes the rust to form.

I thought this was from the road salts, but I guess not. Man, I probably scratched up my paint then... oh well.

Smoked third brake light lens and VLED super bright third brake light red bulb.

Even with the smoked lens, the new brake light setup was brighter than stock.

That stuff is nasty...typically I try to clay and seal any brand new car that I purchase. My Corolla was a CPO and it was three years old when I purchased it so the damage was already done.

Looks good Rob! I tinted mine with some Luxe med smoke LightWrap film that I had left over from tinting the tail lights.

My truck is a transplant from Canada and has this as well. Fine rust particles on the rear of the truck and I swore some of it waxed off. I thought it looked like it was on the surface and hoping the truck wasn’t rusting through but everything looked pretty good on the backsides of quarter panels. This is good information to know. Sounds like I should be able to get it off of there with some clay. Nice!

What is this blacked out hardware strategy? I'm thinking this might be the next thing I do to my 2017 Platinum CM and I would love the black hardware.

A few of us have gone through with it. I personally think it looks cleaner than bare metal.

Anyway, I just roughed all of the surfaces of the hardware up with some 120 grit and painted it all with some black high temp paint I had laying around. There’s nothing fancy about any of it.

Just a random thought I had driving home from work yesterday, amber rear blinkers look really cool. I think it'd look great on our trucks if the reverse bulb was a switchback with amber as the blinkers.

Also I can't tell if the pulsing brake lights when first applied is cool or annoying. I was behind a WRX that had it but it was the little square light in the bumper, then another car (I can't remember what it was) that did it to the actual brake lights. I think that was a little much.
