    Actually...
I have been thinking about and have been kind of working on... a modification, using an Amazon charger that would be mounted underneath the “cradle” of the dash and yes, have switched power... :anonymous: I also saw some accent lighting under the RAGO dash plate that I thought would “mesh” nicely with this idea...

However, right now I am still doing measurements and planning on using some first gen parts (lock clips, cylinder) for an “OEM” style gas door... so far so good... we will see... Shhh... let’s not tell anyone.

Agreed. I really wish they would make an OEM looking black set of their interior kit, the current screws and stuff just looks too tacky to me.

I have the wireless charger and I'm not a fan of it. It's nice that there are no wires but the phone gets hot quick, not super hot but very warm. Also when you have to pick up your phone it'll interrupt the charging. Pretty much can't charge while you're on your phone. While parked obviously, I'm sure we never use our phone while driving. ;)

Anyone else pause on buying mods simply due to lack of time to install? No?!? Just me?

I have also read that same concern from other members. I thought others had resolved it by wiring in a switch for switched power. I am a six seater so I miss out on this slick contraption...

I kind of do not sleep... Really have not since birth (so says mother). If I am up to it and not tired and no other commitments, I am in the garage or driveway all hours of the day and night tinkering on something on the Tundra or the fleet... I guess, I have always made time to make time “fit-in”...

I am always buying and restocking materials and gadgets, especially when they are on sale! I have plenty of project “stuff” on the work bench that are both complete and ready to go and others that still require additional stuff prior to install. Labor Day just brought a bunch of deals with various vendors... I picked up a bunch of the higher dollar mini-light bars and pods with various colors through VLED’s with 20% off discount, just because they are something I know I will use and were nicely priced. If I do not use them on my truck... I have the ‘90 Truck, Land Cruiser, Corolla, or RAV4 that they can be used on. Heck, I was even thinking about lighting on my bicycle! I am always working on something!

I can NOT leave or walk away from a mod until it is “done”. That drives me mad. If I do not have all the parts, I will not “start” it and then find out I have to wait for Prime shipping, trip to Harbor Freight, Radio Shack or the like. I like driving my truck too much to have it have any additional, unanticipated “down time”.

However, that is just me, I am somewhat of a mad man I hear! :)

Nothing major, replaced the cabin air filter with a toyota charcoal one. Stopped in at my dealer today while I was a mini road trip towards the oklahoma texas border, Parts guy let me have the charcoal filter for the price of a regular pleated filter.

Also found a cool hole in the wall gun shop, I know where some of my bonus money is going now LOL.

@dpast88 -- @EINopal is correct. The plastic inserts cannot be powder coated. I painted mine in my garage using rattle cans. Each step was several light coats waiting after the prescribed "flash over" times.

    Roughly the steps were:
    • Wipe down with isopropyl alcohol
    • Rough the surfaces with 3M scuff pad
    • Wash with water, dry, clean with isopropyl alcohol - wipes are specific non-lint
    • Adhesion promoter
    • Etching primer
    • "Trim black" base color
    • 2K matte clear
The fumes are no joke - make sure you use a full-on respirator if you go this route.

I'm really happy with the results - looks factory!

Tundra madness. Pretty common around these parts. Fortunately the "What have you done lately" threads have the cure. Cheaper than a shrink.

I heard that. Buyer beware right? The good news here is that the business owner came through and rectified the situation for the customer. The relationship between Dad and Son is another issue. My advice... never employ a family member, and never work for a family member. But, that is another issue.

A couple of years ago, I was in a hurry to have some tires installed on my motorbike and took tires and wheels to a local dealership. I had previously had negative interactions, but they had new ownership and thought I'd give them a chance. After several days delay, I went by the shop to prod them to get me my wheels and tires, as I was heading out for a weeklong trip. They had a 19 year old, inexperienced employee doing tire changes (very common in bike shops), and I noticed he was having trouble getting the rear tire to hold air. He came over to tell me there was something wrong with my wheel. Of course, he didn't know to remove the TPMS sensor and the wheel machine grabbed that sucker and bent the aluminum wheel enough that it wouldn't hold air. Ouch! The owner wanted to try to repair the wheel, then wanted to rebuild the wheel reusing spokes and hub, then wanted to send it to a BMW shop in Portland for rebuild. They didn't want to get involved. Ultimately, he replaced the wheel ($1100). To his credit, he accepted responsibility and came through in the long run. I had to reschedule my trip, but no big deal there. The tires were mounted and I vowed once again, to never go back there.

My lesson was to ask more questions when having service done there. I let the shop owner know that it would take much time to regain my trust and left it up to him to decide if my business was worth it. I don't blame the 19 year old who bent my rim, and I don't blame the 16 year old in the OP's situation. We all started work with lack of experience and need to learn. Unfortunately, that is often by our mistakes. Every business owner should make certain that their employees are trained and supervised.

Just like Jim relayed, it is powder coat. It is called “Bengal Red”. It is pretty close to Toyota’s TRD Red. I have a friend that powder coats my stuff. These ones he did for me for free!

Maybe I worded that poorly. I never meant to imply a 16 year old tech is automatically incompetent, and the consequences and outcome for the son were probably appropriate, just that he was not solely at fault. The biggest problem with the whole scenario is the shop letting the truck go without a QA check, and letting the customer or another shop find the problem. There's a saying in my field, you get what you inspect, not what you expect (probably used in all sorts of jobs). If a craftsman screws something up, sure address it accordingly, but that doesn't let the supervisor or QA person off the hook. The son may have been every bit as capable as any other tech there, or not, either way no job should leave the shop without a second set of eyes on it, regardless of who did the work. The dad should have been just as upset with his process as he was with his son's work. Maybe he was, maybe not, we'll never know, as was pointed out, we're all just speculating based off of limited information.

A man after my own heart.

I’ve got different projects going and multiple parts for future projects always around.
    Home and auto.

I’ve finally got my wife just right... where she doesn’t even pay attention to what’s on the workbench, in the garage or in that big ass box by the garage door.
    It helps.

    I have literally slept 4-6 hours a night since I was 6.
People have always thought I was odd and my friends hated it when we were younger, staying up all night.
I would still be up a the break of dawn ready to go.
Always made for a good cussing when sharing a condo or vacation house.

It helped while I was in the military as well.

I got a lifetime warranty on my ceramic tint as well. Like I mentioned there was no tint on my front two windows so there wasn’t anything to remove. If I am not mistaken the factory tint is actually in the glass and therefore cannot he removed like film can. Did your truck have tint film applied by the dealership? I wonder what your shop removed??

    True dat!

Kind of a crazy way to be... My wife would struggle big time with the lack of my down time and sleep... Calling it the “burning the candle and both ends”. It sure was advantageous for the child rearing years... It was no big deal for me to fuss with them in the early morning... Oh she is so used to it now!

“Oh honey, wow, I see you got the tile in the hallway and bathroom done! When did you find time for that?”

All knowing damn well that it was not done before calling it sleepy time last night and it is now morning, waking up time! ;)o_O
