What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

So I installed LED's in my head lights and fog lights, and now my fogs don't work. I flip the switch to turn them on and it activates my brights, my regular bright switch still works properly. Any solutions?

 

Is that the coastal offroad swingout or is it a custom one? Thinking of getting one of their bumper pretty soon

 

Typical. You need the inline resisters that they make for the lights. They don’t draw enough juice and cause issues otherwise.


Also, uhhhh 2006 TRD pro?

 

It’s a custom one for a costal rear kit, we will see how it turns out

 

Truck is stripped. One more bolt to come out, but I will wait for daylight on this one.

(Another 40 some odd minutes.) ​

The carpet is ready to come out. No seats, limited trim, and the pressure washer is set up. I will update with pics once its light enough outside.

Mind you, this is after a 10 hour shift with a 2 hour commute round trip. The sooner I get this done the sooner it starts drying.

I am concerned about how long that will take.

I'm beginning with the two original mats I found.





Upon cleaning, and closer inspection. I found little "rootlings" as I am calling them. Sprouting through the mat.


I think the picture isn't the best, but you guys will have to take my word for it when I say "if you hold this at the right angle in the sunlight you can still faintly read TUNDRA"

Onto the actual tundra in question.

I removed my tool box and bed trim(?), and blasted that too while I was at it.



I sprayed all that down, and started on the bed liner. Cleaned that up, and then laid down my carpet.

This a before. I will add in more later.

 

Give the cleaning product you are using time to do its job. I drove around for three days with only my drivers seat installed. It was luxurious with all the space. And loud.

 

Drilled all my holes for the roof rack. Order the nutsert tool (won't be here until Monday. Idk why I waited so long ).

Out of 12 holes, only 1 got away from me (the last hole in the row of 6 and I think impatience played a part). Being the optimist I am, at least it's in the back seat. I'll try to hide it more but it is what it is...

 

Hosed her down, and sprayed on the dawn in generous amounts. Went inside, and fixed something to eat. Watched half of a show on the DVR box.


Came back out side and scrubbed, scrubbed, scrubbed.

Whistle while you work from Snow white came to mind. Needless to say the neighbors dogs in his kennel hate me now. Speaking of them since I am downwind of them... the strong stench of fresh dog dookie was ever present in the air.



I sprayed, and sprayed. Starting at the top I finally had sprayed out most of the dawn. That stuff is "Sudsier" than I remember.
I worked my way down starting from the top.

I kinda rolled up the carpet once in a while and sprayed out the sediment buildup on bed liner from "warshing." (As they say here)

I would say I had at least 3-5 pounds of packed in dirt in places.

Now I'm moving onto the carpet vacuum thing.

Being that I live in Kentucky... this morning when I checked the weather the weekend forecast was clear. Now there are thunderstorms rolling in tonight, and will persist through the weekend. Apparently.

What is y'alls take on drying this in the dryer on low heat?

You know you could get a replacement carpet for under 200 dollars right?

I am aware, but I'm on this money saving kick right now. I'm tried of worrying about thunderstorms, and laying in the gravel to work on my truck.

With all the work & tools out - did you consider removing the bed liner & P.W.ing the actual bed itself too? Getting the grit out from under the liner.

 

That's on the agenda next. I just have to come up with a place to put the carpet for that job.

 

Damn, I've been wanting to do this on mine for a while. I even bought all the detailing stuff, including an extractor, to do it. But I'll be damned if the wind isn't blowing 30 mph out there. Again.

keep the carpet in the bed liner. Remove bedliner & drape carpet over the top of it. ...or flip the liner & drape carpet over the bottom side of the liner.

 

NO. Don't do it I'd say.
If you could even force it in, the heat will likely 'relax' the molding of your carpet. I'd really think the fit would be "loose" afterwards.
Just lay it across the bed liner & aim a fan or fans at it. Moving the air will get the job done.

 

Maybe even hang it on a clothes line or clamp it to your facia boards with fans blowing on it

 

How exactly am I going to get the bed liner out if it's under the bed rail?

Any original ideas since my brain is about crapped out?

I wouldn't put that in the dryer unless you've got access to a 75+lb commercial one with an adjustable temp.

I did the carpet out of my Jeep through the wash and in the dryer. Cold wash in a 70lb washer and 100 degree dry in a 75lb dryer for 2 hours.

Barring that hang it in a basement/garage/shed and put a fan blowing on it.

Here's my 05 Tundra work truck with 285's Nitto Ridge grapplers on 17x9 procomp wheels no lift.



It appears that the rear axle is a few inches narrower then the front. I ended up adding 1.25" spacers in the rear to match the front.

 

That looks great! Any rubbing?

 

I posted this in it's own thread, but no responses yet, perhaps you all can help me out?

I have 6 month old remanned cv axles and in the last two weeks I've been getting a clunk I'm trying to chase down. I've looked at all of the typical suspects, but noticed when I pull the cv axle away from the truck it has a little play and then clunks when it hits the collar (or whatever is in there). That's on the inner side of the truck where it connects to the axle, not the tire tire side)

Is it normal to have a little side to side play in the cv axle and then it stops with a clunk?

 

Thank you! I trimmed the front bumper area a bit and the inner fender liner and mud flap. Then I pounded down the pinch weld to allow for tire clearance. Considering how low it sits, I doubt that it will get any closer, so that should give full clearance for the tire.
I wanted to keep the stuffed look on this truck. I already have a fully lifted Tacoma.

 

The top layer seems dry. Flipped it over, and left it in the sun.

Here is the bed so far.


Noticed a crack where the wheel well in the bed is on drivers side. Not sure how much of an a issue this is. What's yalls thoughts?


Bed liner is installed better than what it was before!

 

Here is where I'm sitting currently.

• The bed, and bed liner are 100% done.
• I am still curious about that broken weld/joint on drivers side though.
• Interior is gutted.
• Floor mats cleaned
• Whole carpet clean, and drying.
• Pressure washed "removable"seat belts from rear. Dried, and ready.
• Sprayed everything with a generous amount of odo-ban.

Itinerary for tomorrow.

1. Wipe down, and vacuum inside.
2. Dust floor mats, and carpet with a broom, and some trees.
3. Spray again with Odo-ban, and reinstall all components.

Weather permitting of course.

A friend stopped by with a 1988 Nissan D21. I thought "Hey, some LEDs will look good as hell in this instrument cluster." So she agreed to let me work on it. I pulled the cluster only to see an analog drive wire for the speedo that I couldn't get to seat back in correctly. Finally got it back in, and then went for a test drive in the nissan. The speedometer only worked when you were going above 25 mph. So I had to pull everything back apart and put it back together again. Finally got it right, amd let her go on her way after almost ruining her new to her truck.
