No moly specs in it. Just gonna follow tradition & assume i'm right. Pass side inner tie rod was definitely my wiggle. I noticed it was looser, but didnt feel the play, but after wiping off some chunky grease, she's all wallered out.

anyone got a quick link to the rack bushing replacement? Am i gonna be able to get the old bushings out with the rack in the truck? The vertical bolt is the one i'm most worried about.

nvm. Gonna shelf these bushings until im forced to replace em.

 

It’s also carcinogenic, but then again, everything is nowadays.

I need to quit procrastinating and get this done. What's the best tool for removing them from the rack?

 

i dont have a 40mm wrench, so the smaller adjustable wrench was for the tube on the rack, and the larger adjustable wrench was for the ITR. The hammer & chisel were for the old lock washer and the crescent wrench was to fold the new lock washer over.

 

Pipe wrench. Wrap it over the ball end and whack it with a mallet if it doesn’t come free easily. Need to hold the rack stationary though when it’s done.

Then broke it loose with ratchet strap attached to the front tow hook on the right side.

 

And this separates the tie rod ends quickly if you
don't want to beat it until it pops.

Whoa buddy. My skid is 1/4" plate, and has somewhat of a spiderweb of solid steel framing behind it. To be fair, I'm not rock crawling, and don't plan to use my skid as a slider, but it'll do plenty good against desert brush, small trees, and if necessary, protestors blocking traffic.

I can't take credit for the mangling of the socket, beyond being the one operating the impact. User error. I use his big mamba impact on the 34mm nut with a single walled socket. Splitsville

 

Supposed to wipe the assembly/clear/yellow grease off and replace it with the moly grease. Work it into the joint (articulate it) then put the rest of it around the ball socket.

Blue locktite on the inner threads is good. Especially without lockplates.

It takes like 30min to an hr if everything goes smooth. Install was harder than anything because of how stiff the new bushings are.
Don’t be a bitch, do it.

also stop by Harbor Freight and grab a tube of SuperLube it’s possibly the best lube for PU that is readily available

the grease inside there is already black. I'll try to add more, but the grease i tried to add to my originals didnt really take.

Nope. Spent 20 mins on each side greasing the balls as best as i could. Then packed the rest around the best i could. It'll just drip into the bellows.

 

Maybe even try an air gun and try to push grease back behind the ball joint

 

That's a lot of time to grease your balls. Let us know how they hold up. Mevotech inner tie rods don't look like a quality part to me since they don't take the time to polish the part, but that really isn't critical to operation.
