If I convert mine from 4wd to 2wd does that make it a TransGen?

I don't think so. Pretty sure the only "TransGen" truck on here is @Kerch71 's. :boink:

Or if I have a 2wd and I dress it up to look like a 4wd is that CrossGen?

The 1st gen owners will stop being so hipster about their truck and the 2nd gen owners will stop trying so hard to stay relevant. The 1st gen owners will outcast themselves to their own private commune, the 2nd gen owners will become the Tundra hipsters, and 3rd gen owners will continue on with life because we have the largest owner base.

Because it’s the same truck since 2007. An automotive facelift (also known as a mid-generational refresh) does not a new generation make. If that were the case, 2014 would've been the start of the 6th gen 4Runner. (The 4Runner is still on gen 5, since the 2010 MY.)

It’s funny that even Toyota press releases are calling 2014+ Tundras 3rd gen. They’re just adding to the confusion. It’s still 2nd gen, just with a facelift.

They aren't adding to the confusion. It's their product, they call it want they want. It's the community that's making the confusion.

Yeah we followed Toyota when naming the subforums. Imagine a new owner looking for the 3rd gen section and seeing only the 2.5 gen section and then calling Comcast tech support because clearly his internet is broken. After restarting his computer and modem five times, it still says 2.5 gen on here and he returns his Tundra for a Ridgeline.

The 3rd Gen Tundra will be the first Toyota Tundra not to offer a V8.

All I care about is what happens to Gen3 resale when Gen4s come available? I guess it depends on engines and how well r ed received they are.

Actually, I have a feeling that is exactly what will happen. The same thing happened during the last recession. There were HD Tundras being talked about and certainly the complete redesign along Toyota's usual truck revamp (7 years) was in the works. Then the economy took a shit, gas got stupid expensive, and all the new truck shit was put on hold.
