93 from Sam's club, once a week whether it needs a full tank or not. If I use it for work all week I'll be empty if I run the 4runner then less but I drive it every Friday and fill and clean it. Best part of my Friday.

I always run mid-grade on my stock 2015 TRD Pro. I'd swear it's more responsive over low grade, but maybe I'm imagining things.

87 or better from "top tier" stations with ethanol free being preferred. Locally I can only get 91 ethanol free, so that's what I use.

There is only one station in town that has non E and it’s on the other side of the world basically, so only get it if im headed that way, which is pretty much never. My fishing spot has a little market at the bottom of the mountain, so I always fill up with non ethanol on my way home.

87 octane, though I do always use a Top Tier gas, so it gets the good detergent package

87 but about every two months , or so, I’ll throw in a tank of Shell 93 and run it to a quarter tank.

Yeah, unfortunately a lot of people don't understand that octane does not equal fuel quality. Octane rating is a fuel's resistant to pre-ignition or knock. Lower octane fuels are more susceptible to pre-ignition during the compression stroke. Our engines are not forced induction, and the compression ratio isn't high enough to need high octane fuel that is resistant to pre-ignition.

Now non ethanol vs ethanol is another thing. I prefer non ethanol, but the cost doesn't justify it. Our truck fuel system is designed to run up to 15% blend. The issue with ethanol is lower energy density, so theoretically you are losing as much as 10% fuel economy, but near me at least non ethanol fuel is much more than 10% higher than 10% blend so any cost savings are washed out.

I do believe in running top tier gas to get the detergent package. Fuel itself isn't dirty, but Positive Crankcase Ventilation puts oil vapor into our intake and will try to coat out your intake pistons. Since our engines are port injected the fuel washes the oil off as it passes through the intake valves. Top Tier fuels have a better package to help keep it clean. Running 93 octane once a month does nothing if it doesn't have good additive package.

    High Octane ≠ High Cleaning

Won’t help the tundra but one thing about E85 is with a supercharged engine that stuff is awesome. It’s like 104 octane and burns cooler. You get way worse MPG but I love that stuff for my 03 cobra. Smells great too but yeah worthless for a Tundra unless it’s a race truck

I'm pretty sure my buddy's Lambo throws codes for low exhaust temp if he runs even E10.

Was the same when I visited CO recently. Got up into the mountains and had to pay extra for something over 85 because I didn't want that in there when I came back down. The lower rating is due to the higher elevation not requiring a higher rating for the same effect. Kind of how here in OK we only have 91 premium but just south in Texas their premium is 93. I normally just run 87 but I do feel like 89 could be beneficial in summer temps / towing situations.

I actually went to 91..Ive been having this strange rattle/slapping noise coming from the engine bay. Sounds like chains or valves. Decided to move up from 87..Still not sure until I run through a full tank.

I use the Toyota recommended mid-grade. Not sure the octane. But I have to run my card twice. Ran to empty once and put just under $150 to fill the tank...

Some folks figure that slapping could be due to the light oil these engines use now. Try switching to 0W-30 or 5W-30 to see if that helps.

Okay so this is something I am very curious about, thank you for mentioning this.
I live in Houston, Its ridiculously hot here to begin with. When I do my oil changes, the oil is very very thin. Im thinking that due to the heat I am getting a sort of "breakdown". Thank you for the opinion, I will be going to a heavier weight here soon!

I run 87 from a top tier station and have recently started adding Startron fuel treatment. I tried running 91 octane for a month and saw no difference in mpg. Didn't seem worth .30/gal price difference.

Top tier 87 with a tank of 90 ethanol free every 3rd or 4th tank. Add a couple oz of Startron to every tank also.

Just ordered an ethanol tester, ethanol caught me off guard a few years ago with small motos.
