Years back Sonoco sold 104 octane. Do they still sell that?

I've run all grades and it seems a tad better mpg with the top tier higher octane. Everytime I'm near Durango u(I) fill up with Sunoco 91 dino (as @matluth calls it) for the trip back (through) Wolf Creek. Love the no(n) corn stuff!

I REALLY don't like the Android spell check issue. o_O

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
Dang, if I dont get my gas saver car up and going I will have to be running 1/4 vegetable oil and 3/4 87 Octane, lol.
I am sure that will work.

Only 710 miles on my new ’18 TRD Sport CM 5.7 flex. First tank is unknown from the dealer. Second I put 93 from BP, I’ll try BP 87 next followed by Shell 93 then 87. No science behind my choices but these are the only two Top Tier branded fuels near me in NE Ohio. If you’re near Cleveland Chardon Oil Co. has pure dino fuel.

Here is the link to Top Tier for inquiring minds. I was surprised by the lack of compliance to this “standard” by some of the bigger station names.

So consensus is Non Ethanol is better?

I ran Non Ethanol in my 15 year old GMC, got my Wife in the habit of running it in her Venza and I just did my first fill up in my new truck. $$$$...

I also run 89-93 octane in my 2013 5.7.except for k&n filter and dual exhaust my truck is stock. But it does get better gas mileage on the 92-93 octane gas.It is also flex fuel

There's more energy per gallon of non-ethanol, and I sincerely think that I get slightly better economy with it.

It's been proven now by multiple tuners that the Tundra ECM will pull timing due to detonation under certain conditions while running low octane fuel.

Most owners will never notice a difference running 87. I noticed the biggest improvement running 89 while towing. I'm keeping logs on this now.

Not only did I notice an increased resistance to downshift, but also a .8 average mpg increase in the last 2k miles.

Does it make sense financially? Not sure yet. Does it make sense for my sanity while towing, yes.

It doesn't matter use good oil and use tier one gas and you will get 200,000 miles out of it easy. I replace vehicle do to rust not mechanical problems. Only time I use better gas 100% is when there is a need for it like small engines and vintage cars.

I noticed an slight increase in mpg's using Shell 89 over Shell 87. 13.9 with 87 compared to 14.7 using 89. But 90% of the time I run 87

What exactly is meant in the manual when it says "research octane 91 or higher"?

I have been keeping some logs on this. Truck has stock suspension with additional weight of ~400lbs. As of right now, 87 10% Ethanol I get 16.2mpg (1500miles). 91 0% Non-Ethanol I get 17.8mpg (1500miles). All of these hand calc'd. I am working on the 3 fill-ups (1500miles) at 89 10% ethanol. All of the driving is variable. Each tank is roughly 40% highway, 20% city, 10% towing and 10% off-road/long idles. I try to stick with 91 Non ethanol but I am not sure the $3.59 @ 17.8mpg is worth it compared to $2.89 @ 16.2mpg.

Have you run 87 on the DAP tune? Just curious how much a difference it makes to run the lower octane.

I use 87, like the manual says. I'm tempted to use the good ol' ethanol-free stuff, but the only local station that has it is pretty out of the way, so I stick to Shell.

The manual also mentioned toptiergas.com, so I checked that out. Turns out there's more decent stations than I originally figured, including Costco. I'm going to keep an eye out for those other places and their prices when the 38-gallon monster gets low again.

I run 93 from Costco. May not do anything but makes me feel good. I work from home so only filling up once a month isn’t bad
