Yes I sure did pay for it. It did cost me $2200, however, when i went from the Tacoma to the Tundra I needed a different size drop hitch. I called Hensley and told them what I needed, they asked me to send pic's of my set up and measurements. A few hours later they called me back and said, they sent me a new drop hitch, free of charge with a return label to send the other one back. The drop hitch is $250. I was amazed with the customer service.

I thought @ColoradoTJ and others recommended the E-qual-izer (or however they spell it).

Equal-i-zer is a very good WDH and is well under $1k. The Hensley WDH is a step up but I think they cost well over $2k.

Hensley hitches are top quality. Depending on what one is towing and with what, might make sense.

A few years ago before I bought my travel trailer, I rented one that came with a Hensley hitch. It worked well enough but it wasn't noticeably better than the Equal-i-zer I own now. What was noticeable was how much more of a PITA it was to hitch back up at the campsite. Trying to line up a square tube with another square tube sucked. Especially if the ground was anything but perfectly level, which never happens boondocking.

Add the fact that it costs 4x as much, and I'll stick with my Equal-i-zer.

We just received our new camper which we ordered back in September. Drove it home tonight all of 10 miles. Didn’t hook up the wdh yet as it was quite cold and was past closing.
Towed great, we’ll see how it goes loaded, but so far extremely happy

Love the KZ product. I have a 2014 KZ sportsman 24' Bunk house. Many trips with it, probably 10k miles with this trailer and many more to go. good luck with your new trailer, and safe travels...cheers

My concern with Hensley is the weight. I'm already at max PL with very little in the bed and when I looked at Hensley's they were 100 lbs more than my Fastway E2.

Are you not happy with your Fastway E2, or just exploring the options?

I have read great reports on the Hensley so I looked at them online. I like the concept but the weight is problematic. I tow at around 65ish and generally find the trailer to feel pretty stable with the E2. It's definitely noticable when I get passed by a semi going 75, but I don't feel like it's unsafe.

I'm new to towing a TT so I look at anything that I think will improve stability/handling/safety. I have started running higher pressure in my OEM Bridgestone H/Ls which I think helped. I will eventually get tires better suited to towing. But again, those also add weight.

I'm also hoping by changing trailer tires from the OEM Westlakes to something more robust will help. I'll do that after this year since I bought the trailer in fall of 2019 and want to get another year out of them. They only have 1,000+ miles.

Goodyear Endurance is the only trailer tire I will run. I know LT truck tires add some weight but they really do improve that bouncy feel from squishing a P rated tire if you're having any issues with that.

Im running 33s (275/70 18) that weigh 58 lbs each according to Nitto. Before I disconnected my battery for the truck to relearn driving characteristics it was bad - really sluggish. I thought I was going to have to leave Tow/Haul on all the time. After unhooking the battery and starting from scratch it is still a tad sluggish but solid AF. It feels like a proper truck that could go over curbs or decent size rocks without having to worry about destroying a tire.

If I had to quantify the difference in performance I’d say maybe a 10% loss of acceleration. There is no science behind that figure - just a seat of the pants assessment.

If I could find a C or D rated tire I like I would go with those to save some weight but I definitely won’t be going back to a P rated tire. My Nittos are E rated because I believe that is all they make in the size I wanted.

Seems like I recall people saying the ride is much more rough unloaded with Es vs. Ps.

I have some Westlakes that are only two years old. I’m planning to switch to the Goodyear Endurance soon and add some TPMS sensors.

Not my experience. Air pressure probably plays a big role in that - I run 40psi and don’t consider it a rough ride at all. I see some people running near 80 psi because that’s what’s on the tire as max pressure or what the goon at the tire shop told them - I’m sure that would ride like hell.

I have E rated tires. Doesn’t seem that bad if you air them back down to around 35psi when not hauling. If you keep the PSI up it is noticeable. E rated is overkill for our trucks, if you can find D rated it might be a good option.

i went from e back to P rated. It is smoother in a straight line, however E rated tires corner waaaaaaaaaay better

The ride isn’t smoother enough to justify in my opinion. I really hate the KO2 tires I had, but I definitely plan on getting E rated michelins next time instead of the P rated ones.

I do agree with you in regards to the weight of the hitch set up, it is pretty heavy and it can also be cumbersome to hook up to. But, it tows like a DREAM. My first trip with this set up was with my 13 Tacoma and my wife and I took a trip from Rhode Island to Nova Scotia Canada 720 miles and 16 hrs. I never once was in a white knuckle situation, like i was previously with my Reese hitch set up. The weight distribution is awesome and i had no sway at all. I think it is worth it for sure. But i agree, you need to factor in the weight of this with your tongue weight and CC weight.

This story is why I will upgrade to either the ProPride 3P or Hensely Arrow with our next truck. I have the E2 now and it is good, will be trying the Equal-izer this summer. We can get some really extreme winds in some of the valleys and there have been a few times where I have had to slow 20-30mph below the limit and had my hand on the brake controller to keep the trailer from swaying. If payload wasn't a concern I would upgrade to one of those other two. While they are expensive, when I think about spending $30-50k for a truck and then another $20-40k for a TT, the $3k for safety and piece of mind I think is a worth it.

AS 28ft trailer (oddly enough, same size as the 27ft), length is bumper to ball. The trailer itself is about 25ft.

I'll never tow a trailer that long. It's just not for me. I don't even like the Tundra for driving in the city and sure as hell wouldn't have a bigger truck. If we go to a bigger RV it will be a motorhome. JMO.
