I eyeballed the genesis ones, but they are all too long or too heavy for me.

This is the Jayco Octane Super Lite 161 floor plan that I am thinking would fit best. My only hang up is that I don't know the width between the first kitchen cabinets and the wheel well/wall on the other side. (See the red line)

    upload_2020-8-4_5-17-48.jpg

The toy I am trying fit is this, and so in this trailer there would be about 1'4" of the front wheels that would have to squeeze between in that gap.

I have yet to see one of those that's less than 30 feet. I wouldn't tow any travel trailer that long with any halfton.

    Solid product here ^

I have tried different TTs using rvshare and by far my favorite was the 24ft winnebago bunk house, like the one posted above. I wouldnt tow anything more than that with my 4x4 crewmax. Only nit pick is the murphy bed needed better mattress, otherwise perfect for family of 4 and can fit in smaller camp sites too.

The one thing that would concern me would be length. Depending on how you load it, you could easily exceed payload also. That is one of the things I have to be really careful of with the 2401RG, which is just a few feet shorter and about 1000lbs less GVWR.

Dry weight is 5900lbs and it has the 4400 lb axles so gvwr is higher than most. I figured 7K gross is probably more realistic than listed gvwr of 8800. The heavy axles is one of the things that appeals to me. But yes, still just about 30ft.

I have the Minnie 2455bhs. It’s 28ft a frame to bumper. Has same hitch weight as the 2301bhs you are looking at. 660lbs. Loaded I know it is more than that but I don’t have a problem pulling my camper thru the Georgia Mtns and my driveway is the test of time for any camper Straight UP. I would not want to go much larger though. I put airbags on my Pro for any squat and they really help level things up.

This pic is with 40psi in airbags and no weight distribution hitch hooked up yet.

2013 Forest River Surveyor sport sp220. 4700lb dry and 453 lb hitch weight. Add propane tanks and battery on the tongue, weight of hitch plus cooler, generator etc.. in the bed and payload capacity shrinks quickly. While this trailer tows easily, if I had one with much more hitch weight I'd be looking for a 3/4 ton or bigger.

It's too bad my wife's going to say that trailer's too small since it looks perfect to me.

It is small, but doable for us. It has quite a bit of storage inside, believe it or not. We have two kids, 11 and 6 but realistically the four of us would not all go at the same time. More likely two of us. That's what steered me toward the smaller rig. Easy to tow, park setup etc.. I tend to appreciate the simpler things.

Yeah, we're looking to have two kids (first is due in October) but all 4 of us plus our (small) dog would all go camping together almost all the time. But I like you would prefer a smaller trailer with fewer features. My wife wants to do all the cooking and activities indoors while I only want to be inside to sleep or get food out of the fridge. So we have to work that out.

yeah the length is from bumper to tongue, so actual trailer is 28-29’. I’m just moving up to 3/4 ton gasser.

Sounds like a solid plan to fit your needs. Too many people want to keep the tundra but pull a ridiculous trailer, and it's the same thing as trying to cram 10 lbs of $#!7 into a 5 lb bag. It just winds up being a mess. As much as I hate to see anybody give up their Tundra, at least you're being smart about it. Keep us posted on what truck and trailer you wind up going with. And of course, there better be some damn pics for it!

    That's like us

We ended up with the trailer in my pic and have been happy with it for 10y or so. She would like a bigger seating area to play cards etc. I've started to do more cooking outside, every meal the last trip we had. Our oldest 15, now sleeps in a tent beside the trailer. It frees up that side of the trailer for our 13y old to have himself. We added an MEC ChowHound dining tent for eating in the rain and playing games in the evening.

As much as I'd like a new, everything works perfectly trailer, I can't justify the cost for our 3-4w of camping each year. This one was bought gently used and paid for in full. Some of these new "small" trailers are as much as a Tundra.

Oh yeah, dog comes with us too. Last dog used the dining table conversion to bed as her bed and the new dog sleeps on the queen's side with us.

Whatever you have, you'll make it work and make the best of it

That's a nice trailer, but I don't think I'd do it with a half ton, personally. It's just too long (that's what she said, but not to me :() and I don't think it would go places I want to go. If I were planning to RV across the country, road trip style, then I would consider something that big, but for getting off the main roads it would just be too unwieldy.

I am similar to @Cpl_Punishment in that I just need a good place to sleep, maybe a spot to sit for a bit, so I'm really gunning for 20' or less with no slide outs. The room of the slide outs just isn't worth the extra maintenance and the risk of rodent intrusion. If something were up to about 22' and absolutely perfect I might be convinced to budge on length, but I've not seen one yet.

All this talk about tongue weight and payload, but I haven't seen any scale receipts. Tongue weight/payload change as the trailer is loaded. The only true way to know any weights about your trailer is to have it scaled, ready to camp. Knowing my Taco was close to tongue weight, I'd always load behind the axles of the TT. Cooler, bottled water, camp kitchen, etc, behind and left front for lighter items. Even made a grill mount to move that to the rear bumper, instead of the front compartment.

Twinkle my nose and road trip RV and this would be type of rig, but I'd want the stick shift. I miss throwing all those gears.

Honestly, now that we have a tent I can stand up in, my top priority in a trailer is a fridge.

I've seen this, and it's quite interesting. My point is that if you don't scale, the arbitrary numbers the manufacturer throw out there are worthless. Those numbers don't show true "wet" weight. Yes the propane and batteries add tongue, but the full fridge and pots behind the axle reduce it. Tongue should be 10-15% of trailer. I was just pointing out that there are ways to get closer to the 10, than the 15.

That's all true. I just popped the video so some newbie to towing doesn't misinterpret the info you provided and totally ass load his rig and kill somebody.

It is pretty amazing since I got a Tongue Scale to see in real time just how much even a little movement of stuff inside the trailer can add or reduce weight at the tongue.

There seems to be an actual tipping point even in my tiny trailer where just a little more or less makes the ride a different deal in many ways.

I rarely have an issue with the things I tow as I stay pretty minimal overall but the ride quality can still vary widely and with no way to actually quantify what you have it is just flying blind before hitting the road, sometimes can be a little scary when I am surprised too!

Stopping for lunch...around 5,000ft of elevation. Truck did pretty good, but you could tell it's starting to gasp for air.
