There’s been quite a few I’ve seen where the numbers are like that. I’m just going 3/4 ton to avoid worrying about weight down to the lbs to keep it under payload. Kids will only keep growing as well.

That's true about the kids. Honestly, double check your payload on the 3/4 ton too. Make sure it'll have the buffer you need. Maybe even consider a dually.

This past September I purchased a 7X16 enclosed trailer new. I had it decked out some, finished walls and floor inside, torsion axles, mag wheels. It weighs 2,500lbs. I use it for my Harley Davidson and 4 wheelers. I get about 10.5 miles to the gallon. This 5.7 pulls really well, I don’t force the issue while pulling the trailer. I lean on the throttle gently and let it do it’s thing, on long steep hills it likes speeds of 55, 60 to 65 on the 4 lane hiways. On the flat I do run 70 mph when traffic allows it. The torsion axles are the best, the trailer handles very well and has good manors to go along with that. The trailer brakes are good at the proper adjustment with the controller. I have no complaints. I always use the tow/haul mode. I repaired and drove the big trucks for a living. Before the Tundra I had a 2005 Dodge 5.9 Cummins 6 speed manual. That monster would pull, but I wanted a more reliable comfort and I got it. I’m satisfied with what I have, it’s the best pulling gas motor I ever had To me it’s important to not force the issue when pulling a trailer, let the engine do its thing. The transmission will do its thing automatically. When backing up hills, I use 4 low. The slower I go the faster I get where I want to be. This way the transmission doesn’t get hot, the same going forward off road with the trailer climbing hills on dirt roads at low speeds. The trailer is not a heavy trailer, I know some of you guys pull 6 to 7 thousand travel trailers. I briefly looked for a fifth wheel toy hauler. I couldn’t find anything for the 1/2 ton tundra.

I was thinking bunkhouse would be overkill for my family because, by the time they're old enough to bring friends camping, they're old enough to sleep in a tent.

I'm personally going to see if I can find a 24 ft trailer with bunks in the back, 1 slide and a dry tongue weight of 400 lbs. Not sure if that's wishful thinking but I have a canopy and a spray in bed liner cutting into my 1270 lbs of payload.

My wife and I like these. Her parents have an older version of the 2104S and it's pretty good for 2 people other than theirs has less counter space than the new models. We were considering a 2509S but I think the dry hitch weight will already put me over my capacity. I may have to get rid of my canopy and put a tonneau cover on instead.

@aggie_tundra / we have the first one listed and it's great for family of 4 and our 95# GSD. Gone about 4k miles in it so far on about 15 trips/travel. The bunks are massive (adult size) and wanted the master seperate from other living, so it checked the boxes for us. Wouldn't personally want to go much longer/heavier for big trips with the tundra pulling, but that's only my opinion. Couldn't find anything with bunks that had divided bedroom space in a shorter model (most are Murphy beds are common in those from our research/no from the Mrs.). Good luck.

We have the RP-182 and are outgrowing it. 12 and 13 year olds are growing too fast! Looking to get the KZ C291BHK or the Forest River 26DBH.

Is it worth the extra $75-80 for oem tow mirrors or just get the trail ridge mirrors?

I regret not getting the OEM tow mirrors. I'm going to go bigger RV eventually and can see where they are going to be needed. Spend the extra. I was fortunate that I did not have a good experience with my dealer so they made it better by giving me some tow mirrors. I just have to get them installed.

Yeah the trail ridge mirrors Are exactly the same style as oem tow mirrors, but it seems that a lot of folks say they vibrate quite a bit

On the OEM tow mirrors do they have the heated option and such? I have the limited and do t want to lose any features I paid for.

I'm not sure what features your mirrors have, but OEM tow mirrors don't have power folding or BSM, IIRC. Hope this info helps.

Ya, BSM, heated mirror, and power. Dang. If it had those I might consider it. Then again I don’t tow anything that would require tow mirrors..... yet. Lol

I think you'd only lose the BSM. Power adjust is still there, but power folding is not. I find this kinda funny, because tow mirrors are the ones you want to fold with power, and they are more likely to benefit from the BSM. Flawed logic, I suppose.

Was talking out my ass. The only feature you cannot get in the tow mirrors is the BSM.

If those are dry weights, then you will need to add in around 50lbs for the battery and around 65'ish for the propane tanks. That adds that much to the tongue weight immediately, and that's before you put anything inside the trailer. So yes, I'd say you are getting in the area of to much trailer for the truck.

    Winnebago makes some smaller bunkhouses.
Specifically the Micro Minnies are easily towable by the Tundra.
    https://www.winnebago.com/models/product/towables/travel-trailer/micro-minnie-1
They have 4 models that have bunkhouses... the 1700BH (20'9" - no slideout), the 1800BH (21'11" - no slideout), the 2100BHS (21'11" w/slideout) and the 2306BH (25'5" w/slideout). Those lengths include the a-frame hitch and the trailer box itself is shorter. We have the 2401RG Minnie, which is just about as much as I'd tow with the Tundra - and even at that I'm looking at getting a 3/4 - 1 ton truck.

He's seen those types of floor plans. The original one he posted up has the bunks in a separate room, with a door, and that is what they've decided is a must. I've not been able to find anything that has a separate bunk room within the Tundras limits, unless you put gear and people in a second vehicle.

That floor plan probably will be hard to find on a trailer that is towable by the Tundra. It's simply one of the limitations of 1/2 tons, and specifically the Tundra with it's lower payload. It's really a pity because for everything else you can't beat the truck.
You basically have to decide which is more important, getting the trailer you want and having to buy/lease a new vehicle or choosing a trailer that fits what your current vehicle can do.

Indeed. I'm fortunate that I don't want anything bigger than a 20 foot trailer, but getting a toy hauler that fits my quadzilla ain't easy. I've only found one, and even it might bump me a wee bit over the payload when all is said and done. I just can't give up the Tundra. I'd sell the toy and get a smaller one before I change trucks.

Dry weight is seldom the problem. You run out of hitch weight well before you hit the GVWR for the Tundra in 99% of the cases because of gear in the truck and adding the batteries and propane. If you add another 115 as suggested by Tracy, you are at a wopping 825 lb hitch weight with nothing but batteries and propane on this trailer.

Also keep in mind that TT length almost never included the hitch or bumper, so you are going to be 3-5 feet longer than what it states. That is a huge wind sail and a lot of sway.

    upload_2020-8-4_5-6-59.jpg

I may not have a lot of room to talk, though. The only toy hauler I can find that is small and fits my toy is pushing it for the Tundra, too. I'm debating on just going with a nice tent for camping so I can take the toy, or trading the toy on something smaller that can go in a lighter trailer.
