    I currently don't tow anything yet, but plan to buy a lightweight Futura single car trailer to be able to tow my 3200 pound Evo to and from the track one day

    That's odd. Can you better describe the symptoms? Any dash lights come on? Do you think it's a malfunction or capability issue? My boat is probably the same weight and there is more than enough power, and I'm on 35 in tires.

    Sounds like you should take it in for a warranty claim.

    Something definitely doesn't sound right. Do your trailer brakes work? Are the trailer bearings good?

    My boat is much larger than this and my Tundra tows it no problem.

    Does the truck run fine when you're not towing the trailer?

    Okay, I need help. How are all of you guys carrying these 7000+ TTs around managing the low payload of the Tundra? I have a 2018 CM with the 5.7 and am wanting a 2020 Forest River MiniLite 2509. It is 5,300 dry with a 700 lb. tongue weight. The GVWR is ~6,800 lbs. We never carry water in the tanks, but by the time you add the batteries and a WDH, plus gear in the camper, I would bet the tongue wait will be closer to 800-850 lbs. My max payload is only 1,200 pounds, so I can either leave the two kids at home (not likely), get a new truck (not possible), or not get the camper (not preferrable). How are y'all making this work?

    FWIW, we live in Texas and tow on relatively flat-to-hilly terrain. We have no interest in towing over long-distances or over mountains.

    @kevinrross They're just doing it!

    Dont forget that 300lbs and up to 70lbs of the hitch is already factored into the payload formula. I can't remember the name of it, but it states that when calculating payload, 300 lbs for passengers can be subtracted as well as 70lbs for the hitch.

    So when me and my kids go out we weigh 380lbs and my hitch weighs 55lbs, so 430 lbs. Subtract 370 from that and I am adding 60lbs to the payload.

    Im sure someone will jump in with the name of the standard that they used.

    @Ynot_tonY. I thought the payload, as stated on the sticker, already accounted for the SAE J2807 standard. In other words, my payload would be all the way down to 835 without it. If I am wrong, that would be ideal, as I am currently showing about 150 lbs. to 200 lbs. short on payload. I know Toyota is conservative, but I'd feel better knowing I am within published limits.

    Okay, so if the combined weight of all of my passengers is ~650 lbs., the "net effect" on payload is only 280 lbs. (650-370)? So, if I take 1205 (my yellow sticker payload) and back out the 280, I still have 925 left for tongue weight (assuming I don't put anything in the bed of the truck, which I won't) and the WDH?

    Dont forget the weight of the hitch, but that is how I understand it.

    THanks, @Ynot_tonY. My general assumption is that the WDH will move somewhere near equal its weight to the rear axle (though some may think that is theoretical), so it should balance out. I guess I'll wait for someone else to confirm our math is right! Thanks, again, for the help.

    Wow. Your trailer is sweet. Never heard of Black Series and poked around the website. If I could ask, where have you taken it in CO? Looks like you're on the western slope.

    Is your Tundra a flex fuel (I don't know if 4.6l has option)? Mine was down on power last year and I checked the ethanol % the truck thought it was getting and it was close to 50%, I don't run e85 just standard 87 with up to 10% so the truck was running pretty rich. Once I reset the fuel system the truck did run better!

    Yup, I'm in Ridgway. Taken it out to BLM lands in Paradox valley (tons of places to go there), and Utah so far. Higher up in the mountains most stuff is still closed either due to snow or avalanche debris. But likely next trip is up to Owl Creek Pass (Silverjack Reservoir) and some roads around Silverton. When I say "roads" I mean unpaved stuff :) If you want to see some crazy off roading with one of these campers, check out these guy's video (they have a whole series on it). They are taking one model smaller than I have, the HQ12.

    Hello all, looking for some advice before buying my first travel trailer (Toy) and using all their specs Iv'e been able to come up with. At minimum payload with my family of 5 and 1 car seat i'm looking right around 450ish pounds. Maybe I'm wrong or missing something somewhere. Like many on here my BIG concern is tongue weight and unsure how a weight distribution hitch will affect it all.

    Truck: 2014 CrewMax 5.7 4x2
    Curb Weight = $5,780 (weighed unloaded and full tank of gas yest and before airbag and tonneau cover installs)
    GVWR = 7,000.00
    GCVWR = 16,475
    Payload= 1,395 or is 1,220 with the updated curb weight? (I have a yellow sticker that says load carrying capacity reduced 49 pounds, does this affect this number or GVWR?)
    Towing capacity = 10,100
    tongue = 1,100? (10% of trucks towing capacity, right?)

    Trailer: 2012 Eclipse Attitude TL 23FSG with only sticker numbers not actual with trailer changes/upgrades
    UVWR = 5740
    GVWR = 9000
    Hitch = 960
    Axel = 4780

    What do you more seasoned and experienced folks think??? To much hitch weight or do I have some wiggle room? I know my truck will have no problem pulling the trailer and its weight buuuuut I have a family and insurance and would like it all to be safe and reasonable.
    Also, about to pay 18k for it. Has a upgrades battery pack and inverter (Saw receipt for $2,600 and some smaller upgrades to keep in mind. Is that a good deal or keep looking? Buying from a friend...

    My ride BTW.... finally got to lift and 35's last year after a lot if thought and reading post on here. Only issue now is my 5 MPH over the actual speedometer problem. Will a tuner do the job after I get my BAMuffler installed???
