What is your process when hooking up? When all loaded up I may be over a few beers and a cooler. Looking to go the airbag route.
    Thanks.

I have a sway control device and have not had a problem with towing or sway. 3 trips on the freeway, no issues. We have 3 more trips, maybe 4, planned for this year. My trailer has a dry weight of just under 7,000 pounds.

Watch the video... the way it hooks up makes it an extension of the vehicle and those wheels steer too. Looks like the guy had no issues backing up. I think it is cool because you can haul more with less issues.....

Plenty planned thanks to all of you.
I just picked this up today. It's a 2015 Palomino Solaire 213X leftover, so not new or used. This was my first time towing anything so it was a great learning experience. My trip home from the dealership was around 30 miles of winding, hilly road (single and double lane) as well a good mix of rural, urban and suburban. Without any prior experience what I can say is that the Tundra loves to pull, Tow Haul mode is awesome, the P3 brake controller works great (the dealership set mine at 6 and it felt perfect), and backing up is going to take a bunch of practice to get good at, but it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be.

    IMG_20170418_155315586.jpg

Thanks to everyone here for all of the great advice. My first trip is this weekend so I'm sure I'll continue to learn more and more and hopefully can share my experiences like so many of you all did with me.

Congrats on the purchase, you and the family will have a blast. In regards to towing, especially backing up, it just takes some practice. But, before you know, it'll be like second nature; you won't even have to think about it.

Way to dive right in on the towing thing Dave ! Looks great !!! Sure you've done some research, but when backing up, stop for just a second to think about which way you want the trailer going, and turn your steering wheel the opposite direction. Your eyes will always focus on your mirrors, but watch the front end of your truck too and don't clip it on a post or fence. Enjoy the camping............

Thanks @CM-LENNY It's definitely a lot to process, but the benefits - as I've seen on your build - sure outweigh the cost. I guess it's a game of short term pain versus long term gain and I'm willing to put in the work and practice. Admittedly, getting it into position this afternoon was really tough due to where I needed to park it, but I'm pretty confident that over time it'll become second nature ... like tearing off a panel, bumper, grille, etc. is off of our trucks. You just need to learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable.

    What not to do:

The drivers ass end was sagging, load distribution hitch was not enough or not set up correctly. The driver was white knuckling the steering wheel and probably was having a bad day.

    IMG_1133.jpg
    IMG_1135.jpg

If this person is on here, level your truck. The ass end won't sway so much.

That's a lightweight trailer so something had to be off that was either overlooked or easily correctable. Regardless, as a new tow owner I'm acutely aware of making sure that everything is set up right. Why take chances? I think that the same risk aversion should apply to new and experienced owners. Let's hope that he was just having a bad day.

    It was ~26' camper.

I'm thinking he has 800 lb bars and needs 1000-1200.

So I just took my first trip with my Tundra and the TT. Amazingly, I'm in North Central PA not terribly far from the NY border and I still have a strong cell/internet connection (not that I wanted it).

Anyway, since this was my maiden voyage I thought that I'd share my initial thoughts.

I travelled from Allentown, PA to Hyner View, PA, which is approximately 110 miles up the PA turnpike and across I-80 and then another 20 or so miles on some local roads. It's literally all up and down with the trip being mostly climbing.

Overall the gas mileage in my 2014 CM with 4 adults, all of our gear and the trailer was 12 mpg which I am happy with. We averaged 60 mph with mixed driving.

It was a blustery day and I didn't once notice the wind. I stopped to top off about 3/4 of the way to our destination said to me "it's gotta suck pulling that thing in all of this wind" and I said back to him: "I didn't know it was windy until you mentioned it." That was the truth.

This is only the second time that I've backed the TT up and I nailed it on the second try. I'm happy with that.

I guess the moral or my sharing is get your rig professionally setup, use your anti-sway bars and take it easy. I was able to keep to posted limits and didn't feel worried because of it. Start slow and take your time.

And remember, have fun. That's the point right? Here's a few pics of our destination.

For what it's worth, I'll be running up this climb tomorrow. That's my idea of a good time.

I just purchased a 22' 2004 Hi Lo, Towlite. It tows like a dream. The gas milage on flat land is unbelievable, SO I snap a shot of the garage cluster to prove it. On the hilly/mountain fwy I didn't get as good, of course.

Congratulations.. Good choice.. as far as mpg goes is a hit and miss specially with campers..I towed my 2011 rpod 19 ft. 2800lbs and that used more gas than my 2017 30ft 5700lbs shafta with weight distributions.. For some reason when it came to an incline that rpod would turn into a boat anchor

I have had friends with this style camper and they claim the same really mileage. Really good choice/option in my opinion.

Any pics of the inside for the fine people on this site?

    Nice truck. That color!!!
