One thing I absolutly hate on the Tundra is that wierd gated shifter that looks like a tonka toy and going through gears is like going through a maze. I might fork out the money and get a TRD shift knob because that thing is hideous in my opinion. As a user posted elsewhere on the forum I might also black out / wrap the silver pieces on the inside...I think it'll make it a bit more classy haha.

After googling some Titan pics i did see quite a few custom builds that looked great.

As for yours specifically, if my work hooked me up with a titan(any truck for that matter) it would be the most beautiful truck ever to me.
    I would be happy.

Thanks for the detailed review, your Titan doesn't look that bad and I agree pro4x trim is the best on them. Have you towed with it? If you have how does it compare to the Tundra?

In general, I really have to agree with everyone as the Titan's front end looks "off" to me too and not my favorite front end design but I certainly don't think it looks like a pile of excrement (although I like the "amphibious" comment from @r1-superstar as I had same thought when I first looked at the truck...lol).

A 6-inch lift and 35s does help make the Titan look pretty mean (but as it does on almost everything else). I didn't lift my Titan 6-inches because 1). a 6-inch lifted truck just doesn't present itself right for my business (works for plenty of others), 2). I would have considered a quality "hybrid" 4-inch drop bracket/coil-over system but the only drop-bracket lifts offered for the non-XD versions at the time of my purchase came from Rough Country (enough said about that). The 3-inch ICON setup definitely provides more capability and improves the stance/looks some over the factory setup.

    Desert%20Dawg%202018%20Nissan%20Titan%20_fd384758a0d70426169ed7920db9aae7634183e9.jpg

But yes, I am very happy with the Titan as a "company" truck; considering I am one of the company owners, price was definitely a factor as we are sensitive about keeping our margins higher to invest in other business opportunities. The Titan PRO 4X is actually a really decently outfitted package (especially with all options checked off) much like the TRD PRO but more luxury options. I was able to obtain a brand new highly optioned 4x4 truck with a 100K bumper-to-bumper warranty for just a tick over $40K which was significantly lower than any comparably optioned offering from Ford, Ram, Toyota, etc. (for fleet pricing) so it was no a no brainer for me. But as a company daily driver with some real off-road capability, it really is a great truck (putting subjective opinions about looks aside).

I have not towed anything yet with the Titan but really didn't tow anything with my Tundra either except for a very light trailer so really can't compare on that except to say that I feel it would not be an issue for same light towing.

I am not here to change anyone's mind (especially on a Tundra forum...lol) except to give an honest objective response to the OP's original question since I have owned both (and not a poser when it comes to really using these rigs). But yeah, it's not my old Tundra.

Just an update. Rode again in the Titan today and my friend said that he got $16,895 off from Nissan and and extra $3000 off from the dealer with the 100k mile warranty. That’s almost $20,000 off a brand new truck! I don’t care how good or bad it is but that’s a smoking good deal haha. (There was a household outlet in the bed which I thought was pretty cool). My friend has been defending his purchase ever since he got it...he had 5 strangers ask him about the truck yesterday alone lol.

*Thanks @Desert Dawg for that comparison. I know the Nissan is good but nothing beats the Tundra reliability wise, I don't have to worry if I'm going to make it home or not (unlike the Chevy lol). Still hoping they make the interior a little nicer for the next redesign though!

Excellent review - thanks for the honest opinion.
I have never liked the looks of the Titan and still don't, but I appreciate why you are driving one.
Please keep us up to date as I think we all are interested in how it holds up.

I must admit I did test drive a Titan ProX4 before I bought my 2017 Tundra.

The sticker was $60 grand it wasn’t a Cummins. The interior had black leather with white stitching even on the dashboard. I felt like I was driving a leather couch!

The bed wasn’t a 6’ bed. The engine screamed so high that it sounded like a school bus and moved just as fast.

I would much rather drive my Tundra.

I sat in one of the new diesel Titan's last year. When I had the seat adjust so I could comfortably reach the pedals and the steering wheel, the top of the windshield was only a few inches above my sight line and my head only had about 1 - 2" of clearance from the headliner.

    I'm 5'5". On a good day.

Needless to say, I didn't even bother looking at the rest of the truck.

I was recently reading an article about what new vehicles NOT TO BUY and the Titan was on that list. Poor quality etc.

Yeah, the Titan XD is not near as fast as the non-XD by a big margin; coming straight over from a Tundra or the regular Titan will be very noticeable which is why I didn't opt for that version. Glad you got the Tundra as I sure had fun in mine!

Love my TRD Pro shift knob by the way. Paid $70 for it, worth every penny. Added at least 100 'ghost ponies'.

There’s a lot of things that are wrong with that titan but having an interior that looks like the previous gen dodge isn’t a bad thing. In fact that might be the only thing fiat got right with dodge.

Agreed on this, your field of vision is much smaller with the Titan compared to the Tundra.

If you keep the truck a long time its not that big of a deal, I wish my Tundra was a little less on the resale value side of things. I have to pay for this great resale when its time for the city tax and it ain't cheap.

My buddy works for Fiat-Chrysler and they turned down that Cummins engine for reliability issues. If Ram wouldn't even put it in their trucks then no one should buy it.

If the Titan gets totaled and your insurance company only pays you what it's worth not what you paid....you'd be pissed. Food for thought

Yes I get that, you just have to make sure what your paying is in line with what its worth. People who go upside down on car loans experience this. I have had Gm vehicles that had bad resale and two got totaled and I didn't loose anything, but I made sure I got a good deal and check 1-2year old models value before purchase.

But yes nothing has resale like Toyota, my Tundra and Tacoma resale is just ridiculous Imo. I wouldn't buy a used Toyota truck because of how close the cost differential is to new.
