It was the only one I could find with bunks and a full walk around bed that was under 5000lbs. But it basically maxes my payload capacity.

I have been looking at bunkhouse plans lately, but this Rockwood Roo floorplan caught my eye too.
It is about the same weight as your camper... slightly heavier. I may have to check one out in person.

What kind of setup are looking to do? I have an RCI 12" bed rack that would work on your truck.

Instead of a complete camping setup, it's better to go for a RV truck that has all luxury setup in it. Many guys are moving to it, which is the reason behind the record rv sales in the current year.

Leveling kit, airbags on rear axle, led light bar with cattle pusher.
Easy set up and dry. No floor so you don't need to empty the bed to put the tent up.20211030_134812.jpg

A lot depends on where you want to camp. Campgrounds or off the beaten path. It’s hard to get an RV camper back a 4X4 trail. Any kinda RV or tent combination will work in a campground. I would like a roof top tent. But the wife preferred a travel trailer. So we got a 23MK Gray Wolf. It’s 29’ 5,063 lb dry weight. Tundra has no problem pulling it. I’m glad we got it. Since your wife ain’t into camping and you wanta try and keep it cheap, you might want to try renting a travel/f-wheel camper to see how she likes it.535A1490-CDBB-49C4-A4B9-AE0BC3FB5BB8.jpg82D05ED8-2289-4845-B611-FE1CF5C2FB8F.jpg56696CFA-98E7-4986-9840-5001D6104F4B.jpg

Work in progress, but this is what I have now:

    Bed in a bed:

It fits a chainsaw, axes, hi-lift, crossbow, shovel etc underneath. Was sleeping in negative temps a couple of nights. Ok if prepared properly, but I think I'll build a fat 50 ammo can stove for winter camping.

Gasoline-powered stove, it is brilliant. Like it lot more than propane.

The oldest kid sleeps inside, on the rear bench. I do it too, occasionally, but it's a bit short and narrow for me.
What I really miss in this setup is awning. This is work to be done, I'm planning to weld a canoe carrier on top of the shell, supported by the frame hidden inside the shell, so the fiberglass shell would not be stressed by the boat weight.

Before Tundra I was driving 2005 Volvo XC70 with a roof-long steel basket and self-leveling suspension to maintain the ground clearance. It is a pretty capable overland vehicle, wish it had lesser miles.

Really loved the fact it is a full size flat bed w/o anything mods :)

Here it has an inflatable boat on the basket:

2.5 HP outboard is inside. It took me to a remote island in tundra (the climate sub-type, not truck ;) ), with icebergs still floating at the end of June.

It even survived a road accident involving a bear's butt and the front bumper =) Resulted in a 14 GA stainless steel cage built around the radiators.

Unfortunately, the engine gave up a couple of years ago, shortly followed by the transmission. I had both of them rebuilt, along with the transfer case, AWD, everything, but I lost confidence in its overall reliability to qualify for my overland trips. On top of that, Tundra's drivetrain is just superior.

This was up in Traverse City, about a 5 hour drive. The camper is just under 30’ and 5400lbs dry. The truck pulls it wonderfully (after adding the TRD rear sway bar) even on muddy roads in the rain. Very happy with the setup.

I just picked up a Blackstone 17" with the cover at a church sale for $40. It doesn't even look like it has been used. Couldn't believe it. This model is listed for $249 on their website.

Thanks! I mounted a pair of Rockymounts DropTop mounts to the back of my tent, https://rockymounts.com/products/droptop.html
and a 4' piece of cargo L-track mounted to the tailgate to stabilize the rear wheel with a strap. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000V5WYRG?ie=UTF8
It works really well, and the fork mount is lockable..
This picture shows it a little better, but thats the best I can do for now
