What brand engine oil is everyone using for the 3rd Gen?

This may help, this guy has done allot of research spending his own money, he use to be a Ford master mechanic, now he owns his own shop, he goes over different oils, the additive packages in the oils, his thoughts and results on 5K vs 10K oil changes etc.

when did you find this?? Motomaster will come on sale for that price, but not pennzoil. How much was your oem filter? Bought from dealer? Do you replace crush washer too?

 

Overall, I'd just make sure that the oil being used meets the following grade (Pennzoil UP does):
ILSAC GF-6A multigrade engine oil (see manual screenshot):

You can also submit for an online rebate (2$ per liter, maximum 10L claim) via the Pennzoil Website, just make sure you kept your CT receipt.

So the oil is pretty cheap if you get it in special and add the $20 mail-in rebate.

Been doing this for years now, here in Canada!

 

It comes on sale every once in a while at CT.

That's correct, the 20$ digital card/rebate. I bought 6x 5L and used 3 different emails to do it in April...

Usually Pennzoil runs the rebate year long, but just noticed its from March 1st to Sept 30th of this year.

all said and done, how much do you end up paying for a 5 litre jug?

 

The gift card actually is for various stores, forget which ones but you can choose, I chose Amazon.ca, since I'm always ordering stuff anyways.

All said and done, you get $10 per 5L, so a 5L is $38, so approx $32-35 all in after taxes if you take onto account the rebate/gift card of $10.

 

Glad you posted this. I looked up the ILSAC GF6A standard and it’s specifically formulated to stop or reduce LSPI (low speed pre ignition) in turbo charged motors. I was glad to see that Kirkland Synthetic Oil has the ILSAC GF6A stamp/rating. *Interesting page on LSPI from Mobil Oil

Just called the local dealer and they want $13.50 per quart of oil. Pretty pricy.

Some of you mentioned you just use Mobil 1, which one specifically? The extended performance or the fuel economy one?

 

Pennzoil goes on sale from time to time, so you have to watch for it. Regular $71 CDN, on sale $38 CDN.

OEM filter from my local dealer is $13.84 CDN but I am going buy a batch of them from either Sparks or McGeorge Toyota in the USA. Even with the exchange rate and shipping they are few dollars cheaper (need to buy other stuff like TRD engine air filter and cabin filters so shipping costs are spread out). Yes, I will replace crush washer and planning on installing the Fumoto drain valve so I never have to touch the crush washer again. OEM crush washer from dealer is about $1.40 CDN each.

 

I use this one ,, and it’s on sale ,, better call me wifey and haver picks some up!!!! She works there so we get and extra discount lol

 

kirkland is 50 bucks for 2 (4.73L) jugs. 28 bucks per jug, all in. So about the same.

Thank you very much JP, just sent in for my $20 CDN rebate a few moments ago. I purchased 15 L as I am doing the Tundra and my wife's Highlander at the same time. So the rebate covers the taxes and a little extra off of the purchase price. Taxes in this country are nuts!

ill probably go with Royal Purple as soon as my free oil changes are up. Have had good results in the past running that for years.

 

Mobil 1 all the way. I am sure most of the newer brands are all pretty darn good and will perform just fine.
I have had many cars, trucks, boats and performance cars/ engines…I just feel comfortable with this brand for me.

Truck takes almost 8 quarts of oil (7.7 quarts)

 

I know, that is why I bought three (3) 5L jugs (15.85 quarts) enough to do my Tundra and the wife's 2020 Highlander Platinum. Whatever is left over I'll use on the next oil change and have to buy less when it goes on sale again.

 

I'm a Costco employee, I just started doing my own oil changes and started using the Kirkland oil and I must say my truck runs better and I don't get the low pressure reading at idle.

 

I went to get a case of Castrol from Costco but they didn't have any even when checking other stores in the area.

I had to go to Canadian Tire (I know, it's a north thing) and got some Penzoil. They are selling now for 36 canuck bucks a jug, so I will grab some more so I am stocked for my very frequent oil changes!
