Hey I just wondered what is the difference between 0w20 and 5w/0w30? Did your truck sounds quieter? Would you like to share a video to us? Actually I also don’t like 0w20 oil…

Dreading letting the dealer do the two free ones. (check your oil level before you drive away) I’ll be pulling my skid plate off myself beforehand so it gets reinstalled correctly. ( and so I can easily check their work ) M1 0-20W and WIX filters. (I used to sell them and know what’s inside vs others) Same oil/fil always in Tacoma and Venza both with 110K flawless miles.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic 0W-20W with OEM Filter, saved $27 buying the oil off Amazon 92.76 for 3 5 gallon jugs vs Advance Auto, they wanted $40 for 5 gallon jug.

I just changed my oil for the first time a couple weeks ago with Kirkland 0W-20. It's not as cheap as it used to be but $20 for 5 quarts ain't bad.

I did a Blackstone Lab sample before I changed the factory fill. I will do one with this Kirkland oil after 5K miles and then have the dealership do the first free oil change. My plan is to run about 7K miles between oil changes. I will use OEM Toyota filters. I do believe I have a good margin of error with 7K OCI.

On my 2011 Rock Warrior, I started off with Mobil 1 0W-20 and then moved to Kirkland when it came out. I worked up from the recommended 5K OCI to 7.5K. Every time I tested with Blackstone, they told me my results look good and to consider adding another 2K miles between changes. I just couldn't do it and stuck with the 7.5K. But it was reassuring to know that my oil was good enough to go farther. I want to add that I really hated taking that skid plate off. It takes two men and a little boy to take it off and a whole lot of patience.

BTW, my daughter drives a Ford Focus. Never thinks about maintenance so I change her oil whenever she stops by. Right now, I have Mobil 1 0W-20 EP in her car and have been averaging 13K OCIs. Her Blackstone Lab results look good but they have cautioned not to go much farther. I would do 9K but can never convince her to stop by to find the time to go to a shop. She has 210K miles on her car now.

Years ago on BobIsTheOilGuy it was discussed that Ford Motorcraft synthetic blend was the best cheapest oil, for those looking to save a few bucks and still get a good oil. This was before 2010 so not sure if it has changed since.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
It’s a hard thing to balance knowing what can happen with your truck with some monkey making monkey money doing oil changes. Service records at the dealership at key to keeping the value of your truck up.

I will have to take the idea of removing skid plate/cat shield to protect the threads for the free oil and filter $7/qt for Toyota brand and $7 for the filter. I have a fumoto valve, I wouldn't expect the plastic lock thing to be present after.

The difference between the two has been a debate for many. In my post I said not a fan of 0w20 and all my other vehicles use 5w30. When my Tundra is out of warranty, I will be going 5w30. By then if the thing hasnt blown up yet there should be some wear in its parts and a thicker oil does a better job when lubricating an older worn in motor.

Been using Kirkland and Toyota filters. The thing is for every 1 of us obsessing over OCI and brand, there are 10 people using Jiffy Lube and going past OCIs. All of todays modern oils are very good and have a margin of safety.

Yes. Being a retired HV Lineman myself I trust all of those tradesmen. But BillyBob doing oil changes his second day at the auto shop, No.

Been using TGMO Synthetic 0W-20 for my break in (1k) and 5k oil change so far. I will continue to use TGMO until after my free oil changes are done, then consider trying Pennzoil.

In the back pocket where my wallet is and in my head where my trust is. Can’t swipe them all with one brush but the majority of service writers are liars.

You think Toyota is bad.... The luxury brands are even worse. The service advisors there have no morals. All they do is sell you something you don't need. They are trained to do so as its the main revenue stream for the dealerships.

I’ve actually not had much of an issue at Toyota service ever (have owned 6). GMC, Nissan, Mazda, and my Moms Lincoln dealer were all horrible. One called me personally and cussed me out up and down after giving him a poor review. It was his last straw and dealer let him go. The Tundra's Check Engine light came on today for the long range radar. We’ll see how this goes !! (1st issue)
**UPDATE** It was a loose gas cap!! I read and deleted the code and all is fine now. It’s Crazy they show that severe warning (Brake System Malfunction) and deactivate almost all the Safety Spense features for an Evap leak. Just tell us to check the cap!!

Thanks! I checked them out and can see they sell everything, but can’t find the oil. I also found Autonation Toyota Winter Park FL had an online store and they too sell Toyota parts, including the oil filter. Also don’t see the oil sold online.

I just swapped in Walmart super tech 0w-20 synthetic advanced. Suppose to last longer between changes similar to a mobil advanced extended performance. Either run a Mobil or fram ultra oil filter fram-4967 or mobil 103a part number. Change oil every 8k miles usually. Twin turbos that are worked hard tend to be hard on oil so any oil that meets Toyota requirements will be fine but if using it hard or towing I would change sooner than the 10k the owners manual calls for.

I think I read somewhere that it is the same with the only exception is that the Toyota one has certain additives that meet Toyota standards? Not sure what difference, if any, that makes, but I have seen many argue for and against it.

I still have the break oil in the truck but after all reviews my choice is going to be
Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-20 along with OEM filter. I found it at Canadian Tire for $38 for 5 litres which is about $28 US for 5.3 quarts.
