I don't think boxing the frame is necessarily the right solution.

What's the planned use for the truck again? The guy with the cracks had some 900# camper and wheeled the truck fairly hard from what I remember. So if your use case is similar then I'd explore some solution to reinforce/support the pinch weld. If your use case is much more tame, you may get away with doing nothing

Oh gotcha I do dispersed camping fire roads and stuff but no actual crazy wheeling and I surf so it will just have camping and surfing gear on occasion

my shell is aluminum as well so I’m assuming it’s lighter than a fiberglass one?

I think so, I'd bet you'll be fine. Maybe just refrain from loading tons of lumber on that lumber rack up top. That could be problematic I'd bet

Yeah, hit me up if you see me!

Scripps/Shores is close to home, and I spend a lot of time up in front of the campground in San Elijo... Pipes, Traps, 85's.

    Look for this

Dispersed camping you say? If you see me at the beach we can trade "super secret" camping spots... (That pretty much everyone with a computer knows about)

    I know a couple.

The guy who owned it before me (original owner) is a firefighter and it was his camping rig he lived right by the beach so I’m sure you used it for surfboards and things like that but I doubt other than a Christmas tree a single piece of wood has seen that rack

    Sweet... Thank you!

I'm old and soft so ground clearance is a consideration since I'm pulling all the comforts of home behind me, but I can crawl it back to a good spot if the trail isn't too crazy.

    Congrats!

I bought mine at a Chevy dealership. Funny story, during the purchase (I paid cash) the finance guy was putting the hard sell on me for the dealerships extended warranty. I said "no thanks" several times and said Look my two other Toyota's I've had for a combined 30 years and 150K+ miles and have never needed anything except normal wear items. Finally he resorted to saying "if you have just one breakdown it'll pay for itself!!". I looked him in the eye and said: it's Toyota .... now if it was a Chevy like your dealership sells then you'd have a point. He promptly shut up and finished my paperwork.
