I had a tire shop replace trailer brakes a couple weeks ago (5km to be exact). Rounded the horses up for a ride today. The drivers side wheel flew off into oncoming traffic and smacked into a 2 day old camper! Thank goodness no one was hurt, including the horses. The driver of the camper swerved to miss it and was half in the ditch. Glad it didn’t flip. Tire shop said they will pay for all the repairs on both our trailers. But jeeze! I don’t have much faith in shops. I’ll be going to buy a torque wrench and checking my own wheels steady now.

Wow, this could have been a lot worse. Glad everyone walked away unscathed. The shop messed up but at least stepped up to take care of damages to make things right

Agree with all others on the relief that nobody was hurt. We all need reminders to double-check things. Wow..... just wow. Again, glad everyone is physically alright, but mentally everyone is traumatized.

Holy crap!! You’d think it’d be a pretty rare occurrence, but you’re the 6th or 7th person I’ve heard this happening to, or even experiencing myself 1st hand, in the past 2 years. Glad all are ok...

Gotta love how dust caps only come off easy when you don't want them to... Seriously though, glad all are safe. Things can be fixed, people are harder to fix.

Damn man! That's some scary stuff dude, very glad to hear no person or horse was injured, as well as my favorite Tundra. Definitely worth getting a decent torque wrench, you're mechanical as hell, that's child's play for you.

Oh, didn't the trailer tire damage all 4 of your stock wheels too (Methods paid for!), ahaha

Holy moly! Glad all turned out well. Definitely could have been worse. I am skeptical about others doing work as well. Work ethic and pride in ones work just doesn't seem to be like it used to sometimes.

It’s true. I am wondering about the fact my trailer wheels are bedlined. I’m wondering if the lugs don’t stay snug if they’re tightening bedliner not steel to steel... I’ll be buffing the mounting surfaces of all the wheels before using it again just to be sure.

This is probably a good idea as well. Didnt realize they where bedlined. Looks good though lol. But truck bed bolts havent backed out on the bedliner, no reason for the lugs too I wouldn't think so long as they were tight to begin with.

Wow. Did the axle hit the ground? If it did, I would take it into a trailer shop to have an alignment. You could have a bent axle/spindle .

I personally check torque after rotating wheels. If the vehicle has locking lug nuts (like the ones Toyota/Lexus), I remove and install these separately. More than once I’ve had someone use the rattle gun on the key (no no) and break them.

Hell, I can never get the tire shops to put my center caps back on correctly. Lost two already. Now I check them every time before leaving.

Glad nobody was hurt. That could have ended totally different.

Glad your OK, i have been in heavy equipment service for some years and all I can tell you is from a tire shop to the dealerships ,watch them if you can and always check their work. You can find a puddle under your vehicle because they didn't check the drain plug to the rocket scientist that let the air tool real in without holding onto it.Result on the air tool was the tire shop had to fix the hood of my last truck for $ 1000.00 bucks .
Most of these guys get 10 or 12 bucks an hour and they don't care.

Good point thanks. The u bolts did hit the ground a few times before I could safely pull off the road. Nothing else but the u bolts thankfully. I’ll have a real good look under it here before the shop does.

If I remember correctly reading the fine print on some suspension and tire replacements of the many years past, they state in their paperwork to always retorque after 500-1000 miles of use after install. They will do it free if you bring it in. Nobody thinks to do this. Just do it yourself.
