PLANO, Texas (September 19, 2021) –With a plethora of adventure-ready, go-anywhere, been-anywhere vehicles cementing its foundation, the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra is born from a lineage of trucks and SUVs rooted in quality, durability and reliability. Its predecessors hit the million-mile mark on more than one occasion thanks to a team of engineers who built the truck above and beyond the status quo.

What does Tundra do for its next act?

It looks long and hard in the mirror and then gets to work. It resists the urge to repeat and rethinks its approach while carrying the knowledge of everything learned along the way. As the third generation of its namesake, Tundra looks to improve upon everything – performance, capability, multimedia, creature comforts and more. It’s the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra, a truck that would make its predecessors proud.

Max payload of 1940lb. Old one was max 1730. That means they've shaved off about 200lbs of flab.

Better than nothing I suppose but this still doesn't make it into an "HD" truck. Also not enough reason to dump my 2021.

Boxed frame. Finally they get it :)

First thing the aftermarket needs to make is a new front end though, that grille is hideous. The truck looks like a basking shark feeding

When I heard third gen I immediately thought about what the hell was going to happen with the forums haha! Version 2.5 I suppose!

I like the 2022 more than I thought I would. Depending on the Pro pricing I may buy one eventually, but I’m content to keep my 2021 for however long it takes for the new setup to be fine tuned.

389HP. What a joke. Toyota is going to get ridiculed over this.

yep 11 hp deficient compared to the 3.5L eco boost . might as well trash the engine and build a brand new one so its 401 hp vs the 3.5L eco boost 400hp.

Does anyone have an idea what the realistic timeline of getting a 22? Toyota says Dec. 2021. Does that mean they will be available to buy in December?

That is about 200 more HP than anyone on this forum needs. Plus only 479 TQ on that engine. Also, say goodbye to towing my 39’ triple slide

Imagine thinking the Ford actually performs in the real world at the numbers Ford says it does.

I’m glad Toyota put the power number in the general range of the competition, but didn’t get into the “mine is bigger than yours” BS game. Ford would just recalibrate their motor to find another magical 20hp to regain/retain the crown.

I’ll take reliability over irrelevant and adolescent dick size numbers all day long.

well the press release says november with december buying window but probably the low actual numbers will depend on where they go. i imagine the 6 month hording of chips toyota had is probably very low now or gone so who knows what we can expect out of texas.

I remember. But it’s 2021-2022. The 5.7 has 381. Back when it came out it was the highest HP engine and stayed there for a while. Hell Chevys 5.3 still doesn’t have that. But for Toyota to give us 8 HP is ridiculous and considering they knew what Ford was making, they should have set the bar higher.

You could never have to much HP. TQ is better over the V8 but probably have to redline it like they did with the 3.5 in the Tacoma.

I'm pretty sure the press release said something like 2500 rpm for max torque...

so you are complaining about 8hp? ignoring the point of going from 401 ft/lbs @ 3600 rpm to 479 ft/lbs @ 2500 rpm (or less, not confirmed) in the low end engine or you could go with the upgraded engine with 437 hp and 583 ft/lbs.

i guess if you need a race car truck with more hp to get to 0-60 faster :)

but we all know torque does all the work :)

in the end no matter what each side of the fence says, the wife only cares about the creature comforts inside and better mpg since it will be her daily driver. lately she is more concerned about only gettting 16-17 mpg on the highway going to/from seeing the grandkid now a day (since i make her pay her own gas and not from the joint account, funny how that works now)

You guys are missing the point of this thread, what will the gen2.5 owners do now that it's confirmed their truck is nearly identical to the gen 2?!

Yeah the old 5.7L is still relevant. I've never though it lacked power.

If I pick up one of the new ones I'd totally get the Hybrid. More "power" and Toyota certainly understands Hybrids better than anyone else. Their system works and it's reliable.

You seemed surprised with the grill? It's been out in the open on the direction Toyota was headed, have you looked at Lexus counterparts? The GX and LX have that massive grill.

I think every auto manufacturer is headed down this path. As battery tech improves, so do manufacturers pushing out more types EV's.

I haven’t been keeping up with all the threads and posts on the new 3rd gen, so forgive me if this has been discussed before. But I just noticed the rear suspension has coil springs instead of leaf packs, which I find kind of interesting.

Yeah, I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it’s all subjective, but I’ve never been a fan of the new GX grille. It’s still an awesome vehicle, though.

I think the new grille on this 3rd gen Tundra will grow on me. Hopefully there’ll also be some cool, functional aftermarket front bumpers for it soon.

bad ideas are fads and they ebb and flow. The rest of the body looks great. The grille is lame AF.

im not surprised, they follow the pack. When dodge/ford change again, the rest will copy them too

    Did anyone catch this line

“The team found great benefit in moving to a fully boxed frame, which improved rigidity significantly compared to current generation and offered overall improvement in capability.”

i guess everyone who fell on the sword for the “engineers” about the 07-21 shitty c channel frame can put this argument to rest now :p
