I know there's some welders on here. My wife is into orchids and got a new one tonight. It's a really nice flower with lots of blooms, but all I can think of is "That's one of the worst PTs that I've ever seen." Is there something wrong with me?

pretty funny that your tying the colors on a flower to welding.

If it is from China i doubt it is like this. I have not seen hand forged work from there. Some is done in Mexico but usually crudely done.

I'm pretty sure that with the place you're building and your young family the amount of time you have for starting a new hobby might be a bit limited! Maybe?

Penetrant Test. You put dye on the weld and let it soak, wipe it off and then spray with white developer. If there are defects they "bleed out" into the developer from the dye trapped in the defects.

Bring the leaf to a soft red heat and use light hits on a chisel. Too hot and it's easy to burn up the whole thing and hit too hard it is easy to split right through

Me and a good bud are currently getting our forge going. Still working on our heat and adjustments. Post some pics soon.
Hopefully we will have some knives by February. Just hobby, but who knows what it will turn into.
