It's so funny how pics and videos never do it justice. We'll get to some really gnarly spots and when I get home and see the pics... they're not even worth posting.

Haha OP is a really cool guy, him and I have been messaging a bunch. The TW mob always has their pitchforks within arms reach haha.

Lol initially yeah, I was asked by the head honcho to join over here, thought about it for a day and was all "why not". But then discovered the socal group wasn't super active. You all make the group and make the forum! Such a damn good time over here with you hooligans

Haha I'll add a note *not work boot rated*

Glad you've had good experiences. Most people do! I'm guilty myself, but I seldom write a good review when i had a good experience, but if I have a bad experience you better know you're getting a review. It was looked up the other day, we've had over 5 million unique customers while we've been in business so it's logical to have some negative reviews out of that size sample pool haha.

 Typical movie star getting all flustered! :p

Looks like gold mountain. I don't think I can match this one with a picture in that same spot, but on the trail for sure haha

Hahaha! I'm thinkin ahead to when you change your avatar again. Some hasn't-joined-yet wanna-be off-roader will be reading through this thread, get to this post, and be all :notsure: ?!! Bahahahahahaha!

    "The Moon" :rofl::rofl:
    :fistbump:

(I also guess Gold Mountain, but only because the dirt really is that colour, and there's all those sporadic rocks everywhere.)

Um. I guess you'd think you'd have an answer to that by now... seems reasonable... but...

This group is a mixture of fake-it-til-you-make-it willingness to just-figure-it-out + some really experienced off-roaders who don't need no stinking badges campgrounds.

To answer your question, there IS a campground near the visitors' center, and probably others I don't know about. However, I think we're planning for self-sufficient off-grid camping (shelter from sun and rain, warmer bedding than you think you'll need because nights in the desert can get cold), and at least one gallon of water to drink, per person per day (if you want to de-stink and wash the dust off, take more for bathing.) Oh, and food.

When @sdde4n gets back to the interwebs (he camped at June Lake this weekend) he'll coordinate our actual itinerary. This will include reaching out to @Porschetech29 and @osidepunker for n00b-accessible routes and off-grid camp spots along these routes, large enough for 10+/- trucks. And we're hoping anyone with knowledge of the area will jump in with ideas. :boink:

A cool thing about Anza-Borrego is that, even off-grid, we'll be pretty close to mom and pop stores, gas stations... electric light sources. None of these we hope to need but, anyone not positive they've planned for everything, can feel reassured to know we're not really that far from Civilization. The whole thing is within our SoCal theme of "Making Adventure Accessible".

I hope you won't back away because our plans aren't finalized yet. What is finalized is there will be camping Friday 10/19 and Saturday 10/20 nights (TBD) and a big day of wheeling Saturday 10/20 which will include people that don't camp... and routes for Sunday too, for those that can stay for a 2nd day.

    ;)

    Yep. Lattes.

What is Gold Mtn, Dishpan, Holcomb and that area like in the winter? Can you run it? Is there any snow or rain? If it's doable in the winter, I think I might want to go run it with you guys. Pretty much everything shuts down up here in Norcal in the winter.

Yeah, I'd no doubt get "triggered" and my feelers hurt over on TW. I like that we're still all "neighborly" and "supportive" over here. It is fun to :spy: over there though-- lots of LOL.

I'm glad you're here, Mike! You fit in well on both forums. :fistbump: Oh! And I'm pleased you changed your tag line here. All those months you were leading big-hipped Tundras on dirt, and it still said 'visiting from TW' I was all . I mean, you were right here with @Marty McFly and me when we rolled out these Shenanigans! :D

You're an OG over here.

    What's winter? :notsure::tumbleweed:

The past two January's we've had temps > 100°. So the desert is accessible (gotta pay attention to far-off rain though, because of flash floods). Don't know if we can find you good technical trails in the desert, but maybe. I'm just weighing in because I'd love for you guys to come down here. @Marty McFly and I could transform into groupies.:cool:

I'll leave it to @BestGen and @eccracer104 to weigh in on those BASTRD-worthy Big Bear trails because, although all SoCal weather's been very warm all year, I think they still get snow sometimes....

This area usually has light snowfall. It's around 8000' elevation so it gets really cold. All these trails are doable in the winter. We had a cabin in GVL when I was a kid and some years the snow was as high as the roof, other years, nothing. So come on down and we'll run everything you fit on and more.

A couple friends and I will be doing White Mtn/Gold Mtn. in November if you can make it.

    Yep! Looks like it.

Here are my pictures from that trail - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...now-with-more-bs.543855/page-72#post-18688370

I haven't a clue, but it does snow up there, I'd imagine they'd be really tough in the snow! not to mention crawling slow as you'd be finding rocks with tires and bumpers non stop haha.

    ** edit** -
^ trails can be ran in the winter! Thank you expert

Lol I knew it was time to change that title!

Nah, your feelings wouldn't get hurt, but they're not quite as neighborly. The SD thread of there is tight knit though.

Okay, cool. I'm hoping we'll make good progress on nailing it down by this coming weekend. I did a 2k road trip (4 adults, 1 kid) in my DC. Definitely learned that most "stuff" has to ride in the bed. When we get closer, we can compare ideas if that helps with planning.

I think we may float the idea of splitting into groups to do community meals at breakfast/ dinner. But that will be opt in/ opt out, so everyone can choose the approach they think will be easiest for them (i.e. not everyone bringing every thing and elbowing for room on a campfire grill).

Along the same thoughts as that theme, i've, been thinking about a way for someone to sleep in a crewmax cab easily and comfortably (and cheaply) and i came up with this today... not much $ into it... just a fun project to see how it'd turn out...

    couple storage bins...
    IMG_2999.jpg

    piece of wood...
    IMG_3003.jpg

folding foam pad on top... the added width gave me room to lay out flat... very comfortable...
    IMG_3004.jpg
wood fits under seat... (bins go in bed- EASY.)

Sorry for the delay all. I hope to have something to get started for the Anza meet posted in a separate thread by tonight.

My son and I had a good time this weekend on our first trip up (the) 395. The eastern Sierras are pretty amazing -- so much to explore. On the way up Friday night we met with @osidepunker and his crew near Red Mountain. The wheeling was done for the day by the time we got there, but we got a glimpse of how SGU rolls. Three words: damn good food. (Cheers @DividedSky !) Great meeting all you guys.

    IMG_0209.jpg IMG_0223.jpg

Sat we drove up 395 to Bishop and then hit a trail to Coyote Flats. This will definitely be a spot we (the Shenanigans) have to explore more another time. We camped at over 10,000 ft on a lake. Pretty sweet. Aspens along the creek were in full fall colors and we had the trail to ourselves.

    IMG_0274.jpg IMG_0296.jpg

Sunday we ended up at June Lake for a little fishing.
