Yep. I'm busy saving. If I decide on 37's, I'll do the first time. But... I'm not in Colorado, or anywhere I need more than stock for getting around.

Not till 2021. Looking at Aroura or Thornton.

The reason we are waiting for 37s is because we tow daily with the truck for the time being. Once we get to Colorado we will not be towing nearly as often.

i agree, i got exactly what i wanted and I'm very happy with it (for me). Get what works for you but do it right the first time.

As far as the area, you'll find a lot of desert type trails (IMO). Even the trails north of big bear are a lot closer to desert than true mountain

Most likely stick with Icon and do the RXT kit with bypasses and bumps.

Nice! I didn’t know Icon made bypasses for the rear? The RXT seem to be doing pretty well and I do like the Icon bolt in bumps for the rear.
When are you planning on doing it.

Yep. I continued my efforts to convince my 2WD that it's a 4x4. Pretty much proved it is  by making it up a cool obstacle-- steep and sandy-- but at the last minute, diverted from an optimal line... and high- centered the truck.

These sliders are getting used every outing! o_O

Anyway, my dirt-homies, @sdde4n, @nishibot, and @Cfincke, didn't leave me . @sdde4n joined me in digging the truck out. He had one of those fancy "spork" shovels and MaxTrax to pair with mine. And @Cfinke travels with a huge floor jack! @nishibot had a CrewMax filled with Fambly, and they volunteered as ballast over the wheels, and "hand jacks" to lift the front bumper. :fistbump:

Took us about an hour to extricate The BFT, then we made it up the mountain. Black Mountain Truck Trail near Ramona.

P.S. The route is totally 2WD accessible. Unless you choose to address this one optional fun obstacle.

    Sounds like a good time.

If you haven't high centered a truck you haven't tried hard enough.

I once did that in Perris. I had done something to my truck, can't remember what, and wanted to hit the dirt to test it out. Went to a local field and had to go up and over a pile of dirt to get in, normally it's fine but apparently somebody else got stuck and dug themselves out, leaving a big hole that my front tire dropped into.

I was sitting on my frame, muffler and passenger side rocker in the dirt, door still has scars from it. Went to get my shovel and realized it rained all week and I took the shovel out so it wouldn't rust. Called a few buddies and nobody was around. Had to go find a pile of discarded cement slabs, a few pieces of wood and used a 2x4 as a shovel. Eventually I dug out a spot, put a short 2x4 down and put the bottle jack in, then kept lifting until i could build land under my front tires and reverse out.

By the way, after the phone calls where I knew I was on my own, it started raining.

Man, that's something! Of course it started to rain. :rain:

I totally believe in self-rescue, and did as much of the digging as I could, but @sdde4n jumped in when I stopped to drink water, and I think he did at least as much as I did. :)

It's a bit stressful right now, wanting to test limits (and possibly getting stuck o_O), but not wanting to push the limits of what my dirt-buddies will tolerate as far as helping me get un-stuck. I'll feel better when each of them gets stuck, and I've helped rescue.

I think it's cool you went out to test your truck on your own! I used to be independent like that when I was much younger (before I had kids, really, and staying alive became critical). Now though-- I try to anticipate what could go wrong and plan for it. Along with carrying a bunch of self-rescue stuff..., when playing far from paved roads and cell service, I value friends more than anything.
