I want to share something that happened this weekend.

I spent 3 days at Stoddard Wells riding dirt bikes, getting rides in SxS and zooming around in the wife’s Tacoma. When you dry camp there are no designated spots. You find a rock fire pit and you and your friends circle up around it. I camp with 4-5 other families/friend, we always have a great time. This weekend we had neighbors did something I found sad. This group, they were only there for the day on Saturday. They got there early on Saturday morning, 6am wake up call, in the open land of Stoddard Wells. They parked about 20 yards away from us. That’s not a big deal, but there is so much space out there. Still not the sad part. They had kids running around all day driving quads still not that bad. They packed up and left about 4pm. It looks like they had a problems with one of their toys so they started to pack up. Here comes the sad part.

It was 3 pm the sun was out I sat in my chair having a conversation with a friend. Some of our friend were out on a run, so we were waiting around. We were sitting behind one of our trailers that was blocking the sun. We had a direct view of the family loading up getting ready to leave. As I was catching up with my friend we noticed one of the ladies walking to a bush with a bag in her hands, mid conversation I said she’s not going to drop that in the bush is she? Yup, diaper wrapped in plastic smack right in the bush and she walked back to her camp. They didn’t start a fire in their pit, they did have a trash bag in there and they were putting trash in the bag so were collecting trash, Great. Our friends came back they shared their adventure with us. I looked up to see the family was gone but the trash in their fire pit still there. I was so disappointed. I went over packed up there trash and the diaper from the bush tied it up and added it to our trash.

I’ve always taught my kids, there is no one out here to pick up your trash. If you bring something in, make sure you take it out with you. That includes cans, glass, tissue, food and poop. I get it, no one likes to take trash home. I don’t either but there is no designated person that comes in to clean up every week. If we want to keep camping, we need to keep our deserts clean.

I was so disappointed in that family I want help spread the word. To my Off-Road Family. When you go out don’t leave trash & don’t drive off trails.

Pack In Pack out.
Leave what you find. (Don’t touch cultural or historic structures.)
Leave Rocks and Plants as you find them.
Respect the wild life

Respect other visitors / be courteous

That’s such a drag… we put so much effort into that FastLab clean up day there as well.
Horrible that people have zero care if they trash the place and lose our access to these places.

 

People don't understand leaving trash behind hurts the wild life and it gives the government more of a reason to close parks.

Like @eccracer104 said we did a clean up with fastlab picking up tires, car parts TVs and much more.

There was a burnt fiberglass boat off the main road. looks like someone was parting hard... We wanted to drive over and take a picture of all of us in the boat but we decided not to use it as a prop for Instagram.

 

I get so sad when I hear or see things like this, I just don't understand what goes through people's mind. I mean, they come out to a beautiful place to enjoy themselves and then do stupid shit like that! I mean, where do they think the trash is gonna go? I can't imagine what their house looks like.

I ran Cleghorn by myself last year, it was pretty fun. Did all of the offshoots, some big drops and expect to scrape onto dirt/rock walls.

 

My truck isn’t going anywhere soon….


Service technician has resealed the coolant valley under the intake manifold twice and it still is not holding pressure. New engine block is on its way. Probably a couple months without a truck.

That’s such a drag. Bring the techs pizza and beverages so they are extra diligent!

 

The tech and the service foreman are both working on my truck so I believe I am in good hands. 2 Tacomas and 2 Tundras over the last 23 years and this is my first catastrophic repair. I do have a 2WD 4Runner as a loaner if you guys want to see how high a 4Runner can jump!!

FYI, if anyone is looking for Vector 5s. Solana beach discount tire has 4 in stock. I got mine for $220 a pop and they are pretty good at price matching here. Act fast because they are going to ship them back to the warehouse later today

 

Any recommendations for a shop close to Riverside? I’m going to need my brakes done soon.

 

Any thoughts to a Shenanigans meet up on 5/7 or 5/14?? either Cleghorn or somewhere chill in between SD and IE? Thoughts? My schedule has been shit because of Hockey, but we have game on both those days just not until the evening. I'm sure a few newer peoples want to get out there! Just need some vets too!
