That’s the best of what’s good. A few of us did a quick run through Anza-Borrego a couple weeks ago, a lucky last day of moderate temp before the summer heat-!

    What you been doin’ Kris?

    Nice. I missed out.

Just been busy doing house stuff since we moved to Escondido in November. Barely getting time to wrench on the truck or wheel.

    When's the next meet?

We haven’t picked a next date yet, but I know people eager to get out.

If you wanna name a date and meet place you like, I bet you’ll get a few takers! BB or Cleghorn are popular for summer day runs. It’s clear we’ve all home-based a little too long....

I’m hoping @Spvrtan checking in here is an indication he’s up for a run. Or any of you can name a date and trail you’d like to run, see who can join. If you don’t feel ready to lead, say so when you post a suggestion about where and when— likely someone will chime in that’s fine it.

I’ll be stuck pretty close to home (close enough to get to work in about an hour) for most of the summer because I must cover for a work buddy that’s taking a training course on weekends. So it’s unlikely I’ll make it to anything up in Riverside until fall. But that where most of the forum homies live, so a run up there will get more participants.

Edit: For a day trip, Cleghorn is near-perfect: the main trail is easy, basically a well/maintained fire-road... and the obstacles are all on off-shoots that parallel and feed back into that main road... so it’s perfect for a meet with drivers of various experience levels and trucks from stock 2WD on up to fully modded; every one gets to opt-in or opt-out of every obstacle, and a stuck usually doesn’t stop progress for other groups sharing the trail, so less pressure for drivers willing to try something they might not otherwise.

@Challenger1 and @nlaroy can vouch for this as a great beginners trail on which you may fall in love with off-roading your Tundra.

Sorry, Sage, I was at a Real World event last night, no time to respond last night.
I explored the OHV area and thought it was a blast, but for unknown reasons, I never see anyone on here say anything good.

I saw signage the one time I was there that made me understand a permit is required to park and hang out, but I saw nothing indicating we can’t drive through all day...
It’s a seriously well kept fire road, with offshoots of other well kept fire roads. I found only 3 “obstacles” that “counted”, one of which was a very steep uphill you’d have to drive that was all baseball-beach ball sized rocks as footing :eek2: ; another was steep, rutted, and Hulk and I loved it!, but that took 5 minutes; and far from those, I found another fun stretch that was less steep, lots of fun ruts, and I did it with Hulk as an out and back because the stock 4x4 4Runner with me also couldn’t make it. Late in the day, we rescued a dumbass with a flat tire... who had no jack, and bald tired when he started. And no water. Hmmn, it was about 100° out that day as well... maybe that’s why I didn’t have the greatest impression of Otay Mountain. It’d be better with a bunch of trucks, friends, water, and probably beer with a sandwich.

So, if you boys wanna head out with GAIA and explore, maybe there’s something I missed. It’d be great if there was because easy fire trails with optional obstacles along the way are pretty much ideal for runs with a lot of big hipped Tundras.

As much exploring as you’ve both done solo, nothing at either of these will scare you. You could lead at Otay Mesa with no risk, but probably won’t get many takers because it’s so far south. Being on the mountain feels like California’s version of ‘big sky country’ though, and it’s cool to find a place to be off pavement for several hours. If you explore with others, it’d be fun... just wasn’t fun enough (I want speed or obstacles with my pretty views, if I’m gonna pay to drive a v8 though) to tempt me to do it again solo.

Another option in the county is around Pamo Valley. No obstacles really, but it's dirt and something local.

If you tag along with me Sage, you may want to bring tree trimmers unless you don't mind pinstripes.

I don’t know how far out you guys want to travel but lots of small trails out by Yuma, foothills, ogilby area out towards river. Fun to explore but getting a little hot. A n East trail that is actually really pretty early spring after a little rain is the Camino del diablo. You can take it out to lukeville south of Gila bend. Very pretty with the saguaros and desert flowers. Cool little spots to stop off along the way also following the railroad tracks n from plaster city, then through the fish creeks back to s-2 north of ocotillo. damn I miss it down there.
