    Hey So Ca folks,
New to the forum. Way back in the day I had an '89 Toyota 4x4 p/u and recently purchased a '16 Tundra Limited 4x4 with the 5.7. I'm new to off-roading, and have a few questions for those who have more experience. Besides the length of the Tundra and approach/departure angles, how have you faired taking your truck off road? I'm not looking to do advanced rock crawling but would like to play around on local trails, OHV areas, and hit Big Bear, Arrowhead, etc. I'm planning on a 3 inch lift with coilover, shackle, upper control arm, and nitto ridge grapplers in 35. Thinking of working with Rebel Off Road, but open to other recommendations. Also, any suggestions for local 4x4 clubs or do people on this site get together and ride? I know I need to start with basic trails, but it would be good to go out and learn from others. Thanks!

Welcome from the IE sir :hattip:
We have a lot of groups with all different experience levels. Check out the first post for some videos to give you an idea. I like the speed bump trails at the mall :D or you can link up with the “Send it” crew aka @831Tun lol

Also, stock tundra is very capable on the trails

Welcome! Looks like you’ve got a good start on planning for suspension upgrades.

As others said already, we’ve got several #known groups on here that you’ll get to recognize if you look back over this thread. ‘SoCal Shenanigans’ refers to beginners, and beginners that have learned an little more and like helping others learn— as well as the fun we all get up to!

Once you’ve been on few runs, you’ll kind of connect with like-minded individuals who like driving like you like to drive, and form your own group. Many of the members you’ll read about early in this thread don’t participate much on here any more, but still go out and play in the dirt together regularly.

If you get really into it— and let us spend money you don’t even have, to do mods you don’t currently know you need :D — you may be invited to participate in a Bastrds or SGU (or combo) run, at which point, you’ll be flying high! Literally.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I know as a beginner I don't even know what I don't know! I'm a mountain biker, so I know how easy it is to get into the weeds with mods. I figure it will be worse--and much more $$--with the Tundra. I'll keep checking the thread for local rides and look forward to meeting some of you in person. Shenanigans looks like a good place to start.

I don’t rub on street or anything. But tucking those is gonna be a bit different. I’m gonna get under it and cut some more of the body mount chop. And add my fourth leaf in the back and raise the front to keep it level.

Nice. My buddy has the Toyo RT’s and has 50k miles on them and they still look pretty good. I went with the AT 2.

Went out to my truck this morning, fired it up and it sounds like a racecar! Some POS stole my driverside cat! Last time I drove it was Sunday morning. So sometime between Sunday night and last night some scumbag made off with it. This has been happening alot lately so please keep a close eye on your vehicles. I guess I should be thankful they only took one... :(

Thanks Warren. Appreciate it. When they stole it they ripped the O2 sensor pigtail off also. So that has to be replaced too. Can’t use an aftermarket cat because the factory cat has the O2 sensor plumbed directly into it. My insurance will cover it but my deductible is $500... According to the officer who took my report, there’s been a rash of catalytic converter theft lately.
