The neighbor we do have came over for a variation of “get off my lawn”
His “land” extends up the hill, said he’s never done anything with it but might want to eventually so we can’t park on it

Yeah there's some good space between us and the neighbors! Unloaded all the shit into the garage, but hopefully soon we'll have that cleared out and room to wrench in comfort FINALLY.

Hahahaha. I'm not too worried about it, totally cool with the Tundra fam knowing my general location. Plus it's only a matter of time until we get trucks up there for wrenching/mod days.

Even with the address it's kinda hard to find the place since the driveway is sort of hidden

I hear ya on the move...we had to do 2 trips with a 26ft truck and 6 more trips after that.

 

Damn life gets in the way Mike!! Happens to all of us!! Will be a great weekend to make up for ones missed!!

Huh?

 

Quick run down on why I was so pressed getting a spot and missing recent meets:

Old landlord was difficult to deal with since the beginning of our lease there. Told him upfront we were renting the house and then going to rent out the two other bedrooms, which he had no problem with. Fast forward ~2 months, both rooms are filled, zero issues with landlord. One roommate even had a big camper trailer that he had moved down here with and parked it on the property until he had a chance to drive the 20 hour round trip to return it, no issue with the landlord.
"anyone living in it?" - nope - "ok cool."

Fast forward a few more months - those two guys move out, we get even better replacement roommates (who are still our current roommates at the new place).
- No issue from landlord.

Fast forward again, it's now summer and hot as balls outside, we try the AC since the house has AC. It doesn't work.
- AC guy gets called out, determines all the ducting was done wrong, unit is too small to cool the home, going to require new ducting, roof insulation and a new ac unit. Estimated 8k in repairs needed to get the AC operational.

Suddenly landlord has issue with new roommates claiming we've violated the lease agreement. Asks for pics of their ID's. Key detail here is he says in writing "moving forward you need to run this by me" - this is an amendment to the lease being that's he acknowledged them and allowed it with the stipulations that it doesn't happen again.

We keep pushing for the AC to be fixed or he provides portable AC units to cool the house (regularly nearing triple digits inside the house, unbearably hot).
He doesn't want to fix it, won't provide AC units, and throws a tantrum when we pose the suggestion of withholding rent or buying our own and deducting it from rent.
He comes over to discuss our options, is incredibly hot headed, aggressive and threatening. We get no where.

Now he moves to serving us a notice from an attorney "3 days to comply"
-remove trailer
-remove roomates

He's fully aware the trailer has been gone for several months at this point.
He's also been informed the roommates aren't going anywhere.

A week goes by and he tries to request entering the home with 2 hours notice, we say no, he needs to give us a notice of entry with 24 hours notice. Puts it on our gate and doesn't fill it out completely nor sign it. Only did so after saying "ok I'll play your games" in reference to following the law for 24 hours written notice.
We decide it's best to call the police to keep the peace (so glad we did).

Friday rolls around, he shows up 20 minutes early and parks infront of our gate blocking the only path in or out of the home. We call for the peace officer to arrive who finds him blocking our only path.
They start talking and immediately he shows aggression towards the officer who then calls in back up.

Police were fantastic to work with, very nice people. They remind us since he didn't fill out the form correctly we don't have to let him in, but we comply anyways.
Does some looking around and then demands to go into our room where I am with the two dogs (as not to intimate him because he's said before he was intimidated by the dogs: 5 month old puppy and older sweet black lab).
Bre says no, to which he replies "it's my house I'll do what I want" to which the police promptly stop him (again, THANK GOD FOR THE POPO).

They then escort him off the property, make sure we have the information we need, and we're all good. Just before the landlord leaves the property he says "you'll be hearing from my lawyer".
-Oh fun detail, his last tenants ended up in a similar fashion with courts being involved too. Tentant problem or landlord problem... hmmm. lol-

Last time, but again, SO HAPPY we called for the police or things could have been very different. If this goes on to court they will make excellent witnesses and had their body cams on.

We figure at this point he's pushing for an eviction since he's stated MANY times he wants us out ASAP.
We didn't tell him we met him at 10 and are supposed to be getting keys to the new place at 11 lol.
He leaves, we go to the new place, get the keys, and get to work.

Moved the entire house, cleaned, yard work, hauled out trash all from Friday mid day-Sunday night (yeah, I'm fucking BEAT). But we got to send pics of the keys on the counter to him Sunday night that we're 100% out of his home meaning he won't have the chance to try and evict us even if it's unlawful.

So excited to be out from under his slumlord thumb.

Still have the battle of getting our prorated rent back and getting our security deposit back.
Thankfully we have written proof the roommates were allowed and the trailer had been gone for months.
We also know anyone willing to ruin our lives for the next 7 years with an eviction doesn't give a rats ass about us, so we're also digging in.
Found out he's been advertising and renting the home as a three bedroom. The "third bedroom" is permitted as an enclosed patio, therefore not an inhabitable bedroom. We didn't have hot water or gas for the first few days of living there. We were also without a working stove for about two weeks. All documented.
I almost forgot, when we asked him to bring forth the permit noting the bedroom was habitable he also said "talk to my lawyer" aka: "oh fuck".

We were excellent tenants. Rent paid on time, house kept clean, no issues at all.
This asshat came after us, threatened us, and then proceeded to bring in a lawyer and work towards evicting us creating problems for the next 7 years had that gone through. He's going to get what he deserves because karma is a bitch. (Or at least I hope so because I've never met anyone who needs an ass kicking like him).



Also if anyone has connections to someone who specializes in tenant law can you hook a brother up?

I think I covered the main points.
Lesson learned:
trust your gut on people's charecter
when renting keep every single document, and keep it organized. and everything in writing!

Hopefully none of you ever need to go through some shit like this.

edit: we actually went to city hall, found and pulled the permit for the room being an enclosed patio. No such permitting for making it a habitable bedroom.
And every realty website lists the home as a 2 bed, not a 3 bed.

No matter the reason, if you need to drink you need to take your alien off of your cup, set him down on the table, and then put him back on your cup after. Motions like trying to pinch a little ant off your drink and setting it down.

The only attorneys I know practice criminal law and they’re all here in LA, but will keep my ears open in case I meet any your way.

 

Haha yep. Our spirits are high, even though my stomach sank and it felt like I was punched in the gut when we were served and freaking out about what to do. Spoke with a few local lawyers but damn they're expensive. It'd be $2k to get a letter written and have them on retainer if we ended up needing one.

Glad we're out, even if I had to ruffle a few feathers for us to get it all done Sunday night when everyone wanted to bail to swim and go to dinner and finish up today. So glad to have that weight removed.

Thank you kindly! I feel like I've met most all the San Diego locals, don't recall anyone specifically being a lawyer, nor do I expect anyone to be willing to work probono or on the cheap, but hail mary comment juuuuuust in case. Never know unless you ask!
