Wear Mark

My topper has worn the paint down to bear metal on my tail gate. How should I go about fixing this? I have a few ideas.

 

Spray liner?

 

Guess you could have it painted and after it cures add paint protection film. Personally, I think I would mask a stripe and bed liner coat that bitch. A piece of thin profile stick on bodyside moulding might also be another option to consider. You can get all sorts of sizes and profiles of that stuff. Might need to adjust the shell mounts or latches if the thickness is a bit much for it to close.

 

Bed liner coat easy to apply. I have a touch up pen. I was thinking touch up the area and apply frame savor tape you use on Mtn bike frames. Strip of bed liner coat might work better.

 

If you get some paint protection film tape say 3/4", and mask off a 3/4" strip, hit it with body matched duplicolor after removing the plastic cap. Then let that cure for a week before you add the PPF. The paint line would be concealed by the film line. You could maybe even get a wide enough film tape to go up under the plastic cap. Not sure what all sizes are available in PPF tape. Check Amazon.
