@Jimmymax i would think about that return policy!

for everyone on here with the turbo issue, did the dealer tell you what the codes were?

    Bone stock.
I've bought new vehicles every few years, only Hondas and Toyotas, and the services manager at both dealerships said if they can't replicate the issue when you bring your vehicledor service, you are 100% SOL. I threw a major fit the first time. Nothing you can say or do will change this. It effing sucks. The reason for all this is of course someone ruined it for everyone else. Too many dealerships were submitting false warranty repairs to Toyota USA and so they decreed that all warranty repairs have to be shown in person to the service department otherwise they will not work on your vehicle unless you're willing to pay for any repairs.

What codes? Did they tell you? Do you have a code reader to check them?

Except back then, the internet rumor mill was just in its infancy, facebook and youtube had just gone public, so there wasn't near the media magnification as we see today, where 10-20 cases seem like hundreds after everyone posts them over and over on multiple sites. Nothing has changed except there are more Karens yelling at managers now. But people love to buy into drama, and hating has become an art form.

I agree, in the turbo issue list, there are only 5 documented cases, 2-3 of which are picked up from others talking on the internet.

Thousands of cars produced, only 5 documented cases on the biggest Tundra forum? Almost seems like not really a widespread issue to me.

    UPDATE:
The exact same lights turned on again on 2/21 (first issue was 2/12). This time I am POSITIVE I wasn't accelerating quickly or anything like that; I was coming out of a full stop, just beginning to push my foot to the pedal, and the lights and the robotic "beep" sounded. So nothing crazy like pushing RPMs or anything, in fact humble brag here, but I have had eight 100pt scores on the Toyota driver score app.

I called my dealership (Round Rock, TX) and they replied that since it has happened multiple times now, they have been given the go-ahead from Toyota to replace the turbo and have ordered the parts, with the fix most likely occurring in 7-10 days. They do not believe they will need to remove the cab from the chassis, and he double-checked as I was on the phone with him to make sure that the fix didn't include that. He said the database (I'm not familiar with what techs use to fix cars, so that's my term and not his) says the fix is 2 hours of labor, which is how he came to that conclusion.

From what Toyota told him–and he relayed to me–moving forward the fix to this issue will supposedly be a software update due to over sensitive sensors. They are exercising caution on mine since it has happened twice already, and that's why they are replacing the turbo.

They gave me a loaner (2022 4Runner) and will update me when they get news (ordering parts, expected arrival, and when its fixed). Would love something else from them to at least mask my concern on a $57k purchase that already has me worried how long it will actually last for.

Don't say that. We need people to buy the first year to work out the bugs for us that are willing to wait.

I'd guess Toyota issued guidance to dealers about giving you your truck back to bypass the 30 days in the shop = lemon law claim. Not because they are "engineering a new part".

But that's a tin foil theory.

Sorry OP for your luck. Do you plan to keep it or are you unloading it for something with more proven reliability?

This got me thinking. I totally (understand) get: "Toyota is building a new part for a fix and sees no value in replacing a faulty part (currentpart) with another faulty part."

I wonder if Toyota is seeing value in selling new trucks with the same faulty part in them? Doesn't see the value in replacing yours, but is Toyota seeing value in continuing to sell trucks with that same faulty part they don't want to replace in your truck?

I know I'm curious who the dealership is, that isn't providing a loaner. I see no sense in keeping them a secret. I wouldn't want to deal with them.

I would only caution a conclusion that what the dealer tells you is what Toyota’s stance or policy on the issue really is. I’ve had dealers tell me all kinds of stories that they made up on the spot because they thought that’s what I wanted to hear or would cover their lack of capability to address a concern. I’m talking the service department. All bets are off with the sales department so unless you know and have a built relationship with the sales team you should probably take everything they say with a Costco sized container of salt. That said the sales team at Hansel Toyota in Petaluma California is one I trust to be honest.

Yes when I was giving my tundra for transmission flush, they said Camry's and venzas also suffered from Tc issues.

I am still kicking a Tundra around , sorta. I'm hoping/assuming they are going to solve the turbo problem. But even if the defective turbo/wastegate issue is solved, those turbos are still going to have to be replaced down the line, right? How much will that cost? If removing the cab has to be done, then it's gotta be expensive.

Yes, dealerships are so unpredictable. They may take care of you today, and dig a knife in you tomorrow. I don't think a dealership is one you can ever depend on to do the right thing, when things really get expensive for them. But I am having a hell of a time with a new truck purchase. Even if they fix this defective wastegate issue, we'll still have to replace those turbos some time down the line. That sounds expensive to me. The present wastegate issues appear to be Russian Roulette.

I see where you are coming from, however, I don't agree with your conclusion that all the turbo's will all need to be replaced. As I've shared, I have a Feb 22 build with no issues. It does have minor annoyances.... I broke it in gently and carefully, not that my break in method is a guarantee of no issues, but there have been anecdotal stories about brand new trucks and flooring "it" and possible failures.

I believe there will be failures, of course, but I don't think there's any evidence to support more than a 1% baseline of issues in the first few months of the release. Since February, the number of reported issues has dropped significantly as well.

Overall, I think 99+% of buyers wont have a wastegate issue and have nothing to worry about.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I don't mean all turbos will have to be replaced because they are defective. That's actually a wastegate specific problem. I meant virtually all turbos do need replacing down the line. I think estimates range from 80K miles on up. Most common 100K-150K miles. Maybe a few will get through and not replaced, but those are rare. And the word is, the cab has to/should be removed to replace them (on Tundra). At that time, we're well out of warranty.

You may be right, and time will tell. No manufacturer of anything will provide a consumer warranty longer than they have to. For me, purchasing the 10yrs 125k warranty was worth it. All this new tech is my concern, not the engine and drive train.
