Yeah, I noticed that as well.
I can remember paying for the monorail bs tax back when I lived in Ballard. I'm sure some elected official will ad their 2¢ while Tim Eyeman gets it removed.... and on and on...

I don't miss it, except for the fresh seafood.

I work right next to a seafood processor and they have a retail front it is nice.

Ballard is deep in Seattle proper so I feel you. We left West Seattle more than a decade ago. Bigger house better schools was the motivation. I dealt with the commute for ten years going into Seattle and it drove me nuts so I left my job of 25 years to work in Tacoma it’s still a 40 minute commute but consistent and counter commute. My old commute could be the normal hour with no traffic but typically was 1.5 - 2 hours..

Anyways if you didn’t know the WS bridge has been closed for months and months and my have to be torn down! Talk about a commute nightmare...

My grandfather warned about that bridge when they were building it, he said WS will become a little Manhattan!

And the kicker today... one consideration (for ideas ) was a Gondola!!!

I’ll give the mayor credit she said it wasn’t feasible

I was shocked to see the amount you had to pay to renew your tabs LyonKing and great work researching to find a more cost effective option! Down here in Clark County it's 105.50 like what you're paying now.

Great BIG Thanks to LyonKing !! You saved me a Ton of cashish!!
I had my 2020 Platinum weighed it, came in at 6400# even. All that was different from bone stock:
-TRD Pro Wheels and Michelin Defender LTX (should be slightly lighter than stock maybe -20# total)
    -TRD Pro Skidplate (+15# ?)
-Bottled water (+12# --about 11 bottles)
    -Some misc tools (+10#)
    -My Bass guitar+case (+20# ?)
-I was standing on the scale (+240#--I'm working on it:rolleyes:)
    -Full tank of gas (+228# @ 6 lbs/gallon)

All-in-all about +262# in non-truck weight still puts the truck around 6138# well over the state exemption of 6001#.

The process at the Tab renewal Office couldn't have been easier: I told them I was there to renew the tabs and wanted to update the vehicle gross weight. I handed them the certified scale weight (with my license plate recorded on it) and they asked for $103. Easy-peasy, I didn't even need to tell them about the exemption--it must auto-generate the fees.

Now I need to get my Land Cruiser recorded as a Truck (vs SUV) and get it weighed.:fingerscrossed:

Just got my truck weighed today, 6260 with me in it, so just over 6k empty.
Now to find a DOL that has an appointment sometime this year.

Edit: Just checked and WA DOL is not taking appointments for this sort of transaction right now. Dumb!

Where did you go to get this done? I'm fairly new to WA and haven't had to mess with tabs yet.
I tried to make an appointment and it tells me they aren't doing appointments for anything other than drivers licenses.

I believe this is a court house thing, DOL, not DMV. At least all our vehicle licensing is done with DOL, ours just happens to be county courthouse. DMV is for driver license. DOL is for truck/car license and registration.

You can get tabs renewed without appointment (first come first served and there's usually a line so get there early) at any of the vehicle licensing station (links):
First link is the whole Washington plate process outlined, second link are the sites for licensing by county first come first served.

[The RTA tax for the exemption in this thread only applies to vehicles registered in King and Pierce county I think.--If you need the RTA tax exemption make sure you bring the scale weight cert to the licensing location]

    https://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/moving.html
    https://fortress.wa.gov/dol/dolprod/vehoffices/

I live in Tacoma. I googled CAT certified weigh station (there was one in Fife). I filled up with gas, left my tools and a case of water in the truck (to make sure I made it over the 6001# exemption weight). Got the truck weighed. Just to make sure, I stood on the scale while the truck was weighed --- I didn't know if it would be close. Our trucks are a lot heavier than Toyota specs out (Toyota says 5670, with full fuel that would be 5898 bone-stock Platinum.)

I had them enter my name and the vehicle license plate number on the scale weight certification just to be properly documented.

And took the Certified Scale Weight receipt to the DOL (were you normally get your tabs renewed) asked them to update the vehicle weight and they asked me for $103 for my tabs! almost $600 savings!

Snohomish County as well, if you’re in the RTA tax area. We’re just on the border so might have to consider this...

Just got back from the scale and updating my registration. A bit of time and $36 amounted to over $300 saved. Original tab renewal, $423.50; now, $110.50. Thank you @LyonKing !

The rig weighed in at 6240 with a full tank, WDH parts and me in the vehicle. Pretty much a stock SR5 CrewMax TRD Off Road... stock wheels and tires, bed mat, OEM side steps... that's pretty much it.

I'm also in Clark Co. I paid that exact amount on mine in Feb this year. Even with that amount I'm not happy. We voted for $30-$35 tabs many years ago and the douche bags in Olympia have been finding ways to raise the fees ever since. What happened to the most recent thing we voted that should brought down the fees? It passed but again some assholes had to hold it up in the courts.

Done! Sisler Licensing Agency in Burien, under a half hour. Before I walked in my notice said I was due $532.50, by the time I left I had paid $107.75. Saved $425!!! Also was handed the form to request last year’s adjustment

One thing I noticed from other posts and and other sources is a 90-day wait. I don’t know if they always do it, but it may show up. I’ve heard a check has popped up in the mailbox almost unexpectedly from others

Hey everyone, I just wanted to add another exemption, and I believe it’s state-wide. There’s a Transportation Benefit District fee, this year they charged me 20, but last year when I bought the truck it was 80, unsure why the difference. Anyway, 6k lbs exemption just as before. Also, these TBDs are in various municipalities and counties across the state with varying costs, see what yours is, get a scale ticket, and tell them next time you re-up on tabs.

sorry if this is a repeat of another post, I didn’t scan

I did it, and also sent in my request for refund from the previous year. I’ll post it I get it, but I think they wait 90 days. Also don’t forget the TBD that can be like 20-80 bucks. Same deal, exempt if over 6k pounds

Looking forward to you sharing that. Thanks for the heads up on the timing of reumbursement and previous year credit (though the latter wouldn't apply to me).

I just got my truck like 2 weeks ago at the dealer. Still waiting on my plate and registration so I'm in no rush. Fees came to $680.50. I'd be ecstatic to see even a fraction of that back so that money can go toward bed lining.
