It’s a nice drive but far from west entrance. Nothing in W Yellowstone? I’d try Gardiner, MT before I’d base in BS. If you really want something special look at cabins at Chico Hot Springs. One of our favorite spots. 50 miles from north entrance. Beautiful drive.

    Back in Arizona. Again.

I’m in Columbus - let’s go wheeling! I have to do some maintenance on Komodo first, but we haven’t been on dirt since we moved here from AZ in October. There seems to be a decent overlanding group on the Book of Faces that is vehicle agnostic. Midwest overlanders I think it’s called. I’m trying to start an Ohio Tundras Group on FB also. There’s a handful of us here.

I did a google search and people said its not practical to be in Big Sky for day trips to the park. I read that there are close to 500 miles of road in the park. I stumbled upon Gardiner and have found a couple of VRBO spots listed which could work. Also a couple near Cooke City Gate. Found a gret rustic log cabin in Chico Hot Springs but it sounds about as far as Big Sky so maybe a visit but too far of a daily drive. The west entrance places seem like all motels/motel cabins. Basically a hotel room. I prefer more of a house or condo with a full kitchen. You have been a big help so far thanks a bunch.

No problem. Happy to answer any questions you have. Gardiner is a cool
place and the park gate is literally 100 yards from town.

Yes I like the fact that Gardiner is at the gate like West Yellowstone is to that west side. Cooke looks like it could be cool but not much to choose from. I zoomed in on the Beartooth Pass road at the MT state line. That looks insane. I understand why it takes 3 hours to only go a few miles.

I can second staying at Chico Hot Springs. Nice place and the drive to Yellowstone is nice . If you like tequila the saloon there has quite the selection.

The pool is warm and is used all year, it's fed by a natural hot spring

It's the hot spring pool at Chico, it's at the resort. Under the roof is the hot tub portion. Which is really damn hot from the spring
