Swapped back in the OEM lights this morning. Checking things out with the lights out, it looks like the 50W 6ohm resistor used to prevent hyperflash is bad. Measuring 5kohms or more as my meter was jumping all over the place.

going to replace that and see if it fixes it.

Replaced that resistor on the tail light and it’s working again.
Kinda odd that the resistor would fail like that. But cheap and easy fix!

Any other folks get a set of these they'd like to share?

I think once I get my truck back from the shop after my little fender bender, I'll upgrade.

The tail lights and brake lights are all red (all three rows). Only the outer row turns yellow and sequences from top to bottom for the turn signal.

Reviving an older thread - any other folks have experience with these? Any issues with the people that have had them for a while?

I was without my truck for a couple months. Just got it back. No issues with mine other than that resistor. And I’ll likely need to install OEM next month to pass inspection and then put these back in. They are not DOT approved if that’s a concern for you.

I went for the Ebay combo deal. A 10% coupon for auto parts Ebay has right now made it $600 after taxes for headlight and tail light. Seriously cannot beat that.
Tails came in today. Headlights coming in a few more days.

The tails look way better than I thought it would on the (age dulled) radiant red.
The daytime brake lights are definitely a concern of mine with both the smoked housing and red paint. I am planning on adding the morimoto 3rd with the flasher module and a tailgate lightstrip to help mitigate some of that. For now I will be sure to not turn on my lights at all until it is well after dark.

Yeah, I wish they had a clear version and not just the smoke. Mine may be a little easier to see bc of my white truck, but still hard in full daylight. At dusk and night they’re bright enough.

I would have gone for clear if they had it too.
That said I have had people say they cannot see my brake lights even with the stock hallogens in the past so maybe it wont be as big of a "downgrade" in that sense as one might think it is.

I'm honestly surprised VLAND never put out a clear lens version for their 07-13 tail lights, especially considering these were out way before the 14-21 version.

There are 2 other versions I've come across that offer a clear lens, one by spec-d and not sure where the second originates from. They did take a different approach to the design though but they're an option for whoever wants this style of light with a clear lens.

I might have to check these two out and if one of them is DOT approved I might switch.

Got the headlights in. Learned that the combo deal does NOT include the uodated sequoia headlight trim piece. Might shift the value prospect one way or another for some.

I managed to nab an OEM pair on Ebay for $130 after shipping. I see an aftermarket listing but its just as expensive.

So a total of ~$750 for the heads and tails if you have to buy the trim. Honestly still way better than almost anything out there.

I tried out the “Unknown” manufacturer tail lights from Amazon this morning. They look OK to me, especially for the price. It does have some DOT number on the bottom, but it looks like not enough numbers to me. But I could be wrong.

They are definitely brighter in the daytime with the clear lenses. But a couple of things I didn’t like.

    1. I don’t like the chrome. I de-chromed my truck so it doesn’t really go with my build. This is a personal preference.

    2. On that chrome behind the lens, there is a smudge from a handprint or something. Done during manufacturing I guess.

    IMG_1966.jpg

    3. on startup there is a light sequence that last about 16 seconds. That seems long to me as if the lights cut on while driving I would think that would confuse those behind you.

    4. The turn signal light isn’t sequential like the smoke lense ones I have now.

    5. Not sure I like the side marker on these lights. I guess that’s probably needed for the DOT approval, but it could have been done better.

    6. I did not try the backup lights but I have the VLED license plate backup lights so I’m not so concerned with that.

In the end I’m sending these back and will try the Spec-D ones.

The Spec D tail lights came in today and so far I’m impressed with the fit and finish compared to both the no name brand before and the VLAND type. I got the clear lens's with jet black.

    1. on startup there is a light sequence that last about 10 seconds vs the 16 seconds in the last set I tried.

    2. The turn signal light is sequential like the smoke lense ones I have now but it’s a smaller line of LEDs and not the main lights. Not a deal breaker and looks ok. The picture looks more yellow but it is red.

    3. The lights look much crisper then my previous set. Some due to the smoke lens but I think also due to the LEDs.

    4. Don’t have anyone else here right now to see the brake lights.

    5. They do have DOT numbers on them.

    6. I did not try the backup lights but I have the VLED license plate backup lights so I’m not so concerned with that.

Time will tell how they hold up.
