Just wanted to give this thread a bump and share another positive review for @ViktorG 's tune. For some background, I had my Magnuson supercharger installed almost 2 years ago back in February 2020. Since the install I've had what I believed to be pinging when I was in high gear and lower RPM's and applying moderate throttle. I would hear this for a split second and then it would be gone. I've always wanted to get my truck "tuned" and have the logs reviewed to ensure everything was safe but other mods always came first.

When I saw that Viktor was working on a tune for the Flex Fueled Supercharged trucks I was anxious to get in line. Fast forward to 12/8 Viktor was ready to do remote tuning on my set up. I connected with Viktor and we exchanged a couple emails. From there, I placed my order direct with HPTuners for the MPVI2+. On 12/21 after the MPVI2+ was received I went to the HPTuners website and downloaded their VCM Editor and VCM Scanner which was easy to do. From there, I was able to connect the MPVI2+ to the truck and obtain the stock .hpt file and email that over to Viktor. He had also provided a detailed questionnaire for me to complete in order to help him customize my tune.

It was only about 3 days later (on Christmas evening) when I received my custom tune from Viktor, Merry Christmas to me! Viktor attached a custom Channel Config file for me to use when data logging that would provide him with the data set that he was looking for to review. He had asked me to data log on my current Magnuson tune before flashing his tune to the truck in order to be able to compare. On 12/27 I was able to data log on the Magnuson tune and sent that back. I ended up coming down with a cold which I'm still slowly getting over today and we had some rainy days which prevented me from doing any WOT logging. On 12/28 Viktor had reviewed my data log from the Magnuson tune. He found that my engine started to ping/knock at anything past 2000 rpm's under moderate to heavy load and only got worse as rpm's went past 4000. He said that the amount of knock in my truck was one of the worse ones that he's seen in a stock setup truck. Mind you I had been running that tune for the past ~20K miles. On 12/29 I purchased the 4 credits from HPTuners and flashed the new tune to my truck. Easy process to flash it and everything went smooth. I did a data log on his tune and emailed that back over to him (taking it somewhat easy to ensure everything was looking okay at first). 12/30 Viktor reviewed that initial data log from his tune and said everything was looking good and for me to go ahead and do some medium/heavy loads and a full throttle run similar to the log I did with the Magnuson tune.

The next day Viktor got back to me and said everything looked good. He attached another knock feedback graph showing the huge difference compared to the original one from the Magnuson tune. Viktor was amazing to work with from the start all the way to the end of the process. He answered all my questions in great detail and explained everything along the way. He was very responsive and guided me through the process whenever I got stuck on something.

If you've read this far, I'm sure you're waiting to see how his new tune is doing. I can't even begin to describe the difference. The throttle sensitivity has been adjusted and seems perfect in my opinion. The truck has plenty of get up and go and seems to do so with less effort than before. The truck just feels better overall and now I'm glad that I know my tune is safe. Had I known how bad the Magnuson tune was I would have done this a long time ago. Night and day difference. Shifts feel better and the truck just pulls. I can't really go into detail about everything that was modified on the tune because a lot of that is way over my head. All I can say is that Viktor worked his magic and the results speak for itself.

If anyone is on the fence about having him tune your truck or doing it remotely don't sweat it. You will not regret it.

Here is something interesting to consider.
I have attached the knock feedback graph from a stock Magnuson supercharger setup on a 2017 Toyota Tundra using 91 octane fuel.
The first graph is from the truck doing a data log on the Magnuson supplied HPTuners RTD device tune.
The second graph is from the same truck with my tune on it.
What the graphs show is how much engine pinging/knock the knock sensors are picking up at various loads and RPM.
The stock knock feedback neutral point is -3.0 degrees (color coded white on the graphs), means no engine knock is detected.
Anything below -3.0 (colored red) means the ECU has to retard ignition timing because of engine knock, the higher the negative number the more ignition retard is needed.
Anything above -3.0 (colored green) means no knock detected for a while and the ECU is advancing timing to extract more horsepower out of the engine.
There are more variable involved of course (knock correct learn value, actual spark etc.), but this single metric does give a very good look at what is happening with the engine safety wise.

I'm seeing Magnuson does not care about customers engines and Viktor does :)

Here is another example of the difference between the canned Magnuson tune and the custom remote tune on a 2014 non-flex fuel Magnuson supercharged Tundra.
The graphs show how much ignition timing is being pulled in response to engine knock.
The first one is of the stock Magnuson supplied HPTuners RTD tune, the second one is the custom tune after a few revisions.
-3.0 degrees is baseline (no ignition retard due to knock), anything more negative than that means the knock sensors are picking up pinging.
You can visually see the difference (red is bad, white/green is good).

It looks like Hp tuners supports 19-21s now, are you tuning them?

I’m beyond “mildly” interested in getting set up with an @ViktorG tune for my ‘18 N/A non-FF Tundra….

    Sending you a PM, Sir.

Find a different tuner. Zero reason a stock vehicle needs a fuel system for a tune. Would be the first one in history.

    Edit:
Holy crap!!! I just filled in their form for tuning and $1050 to tune a factory engine is highway robbery!!

    Too many mods to come

Prospeed wants to make sure you’re running their fuel system. More for liability on their end

Yes. I've seen tuning packages offered for NA set ups but it usually involves headers and an intake. $ per HP isn't worth it from what I've seen.

10-15hp//tq give or take a couple. Im always more interested in the transmission tuning as that can really wake a vehicle up in how it drives and performs.

For my 2014 5.7 FF, how much of an increase can I expect running a 91ACN tune?Mods are DD 10” exhaust and KNN panel. Also, how will this tune affect my smog out here in CA? They do check for tunes, I rather not pay to go back to stock every 2years. Thanks.

Thank you, I am also looking at VR Tuned. If I decide to keep the Tundra I will spring for a blower. Was looking for a tune for now. Thanks, again.

He is not currently. The General Supercharger Thread can provide other options if you're interested, but when I talked to Viktor in November he was not looking to do any tuning for the foreseeable future.

Guys, I really need some help. I love my 2013 Tundra, but it's unfortunately a FF, and I didn't kkow about the extended crank/hard start issue with these at the time I bought it 2 years ago. I luckily have a buddy that's a Toyota mechanic who has used the TSB about this to reflash the ecu. He's had to do it 3 times now, because it only "sticks" for a month or 2 before the issue starts coming back. Outside of getting rid of it and buying a non FF, do I have ANY tuning options to eliminate the FF entirely? I'm only asking after reading Viktor is no longer tuning or whatever. I've put a decent amount of money into the truck now between tires, suspension, etc etc and I really don't want to start from scratch. Help me please!

I’d go this route with buying a capable scan tool to reset the alcohol percentage from time to time as needed. FFVs unfortunately can be a PITA it appears. https://www.tundras.com/threads/res...ge-level-with-bidirectional-scan-tool.123799/

Well, I took your advice and purchased the Launch X431 CRP919Ebidirectional scan tool on Amazon for $465. Alcohol percentage was 69.5%, reset it to zero. Problem solved. So damn happy I FINALLY have a permanent, at home fix to use when needed. Even happier I don't have to get rid of my truck now! Thanks again.

Awesome, thanks goes to the OP of that other thread. I don’t have an FFV but if I did I would definitely have one of these scan tools.

For sure. Not to mention the endless other stuff you can do with it. I'm just starting to scratch the surface of what it can do via YouTube videos etc. Definitely going to be going down quite a few rabbit holes learning all about it.
